I'm no avid nail polish collector (or hoarder depending on how you see it), I own only a handful of polishes but I firmly believe that along with a flattering nude hue, a classic red everyone should have an excellent black nail lacquer. Why? It goes with everything - long nails, short nails and all that is in-between. It never looks out of place, it is effortlessly glam and should you chip a nail you can pretend that you are going for a grungy look. That's why you need a black nail polish and if your budget stretches far enough (it is only nail lacquer after all) then I highly recommend Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black Satin 219.
Not all Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colours are equal, far from it - some chip within moments, others days and then we have Black Satin. Worlds apart from the other Chanel polishes I have - it is gloriously thick yet dries quickly to the glossiest black vinyl finish you can imagine. Two quick coats and you are good to go and without a top or base coat (guilty) you are looking at around five days of chip free wear.
No other black polish comes close to Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black Satin in my eyes find it via Debenhams for £18 - link.
