Dior Trianon for Spring 2014 has landed and if you want to channel your inner Marie Antoinette and indulge in pastels rather than cake then you should look no further than the new Dior Trianon 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 234 Pastel Fontanges. Prepare to drool!
As with all Dior eyeshadow palettes this is beautiful presented and comes complete with a luxurious velveteen pouch to store your pretty palette inside and of course two foam applicators. The case is a deep midnight blue that reflects the brands initials in certain lights and screams luxury thanks to the little touches of platinum detailing and the sweet embossing on each eyeshadow. That aside the casing is really robust bordering on bulky which is reassuring as at close to £35 a palette you want it to survive the odd knock or bump in your bag!
Within the Dior Trianon Spring 2014 collection there is two eyeshadow palettes (along with numerous other products) to choose from. I have Pastel Fontanges which of course features pale, sugary sweet shades but if you are looking for something a little deeper and more pink/purple based you may want to try out the Pink Pompadour palette (review and swatches here). Back to the Dior Pastel Fontanges palette - five cutesy and very Spring appropriate shades that I deem the perfect selection for those like myself who are a little fearful of bright eyeshadows.
The first shade is a light sparkling shimmering silver hue that is not lacking in pigmentation and is pretty bold. I'm a little wary of blue eyeshadow as it can seem dated but this pale baby blue leans more silver than blue and is surprisingly very wearable even for neutral lovers like myself. Again this is a metallic shade with the same formulation as the silver shadow but to intensify the pigmentation you could apply wet. The centre shade is the perfect highlighter, a metallic ivory that turns into a bright yet subtle golden hue on the skin - it reminds me of NARS Albatross highlighter. Every palette worth its salt has a dark shade and this is no different - a dark, sultry pewter that works well with the other shades to add a little definition or worn on its own for a smoky eye effect. Lastly we have a true baby pink that isn't all that pigmented but does leave a beautiful almost pink gloss effect on the skin, essentially this is a pink highlighter and not a shade you would reach for if high colour pay off is what you desire. In fact that is the how I would sum this palette up (the pewter shade aside) - subtle shades that deliver a hint of a tint with a silky soft texture that is a little prone to fall out but nothing unmanageable. Teamed with a primer I achieved around 8 hours of wear from the three shades that I tested out.
