Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

Yes, like the majority of the beauty loving world I have caved and now own the rather beautiful Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. The question on most peoples lips are do I need it? Truthfully if you already own the first two Naked palettes or any other neutral eyeshadow collection then the answer is no. What the real question should be is can you resist it? Nope.

As you can see the packaging for the third naked offering is more akin with Naked 2 - a large, weighty tin like palette that in my opinion wears better with time opposed to the velveteen offering that was the original Urban Decay Naked palette. A little part of me is hoping that sooner or later Urban Decay will repackage said palette to match its younger siblings. Much like Naked 2 inside the palette is a great duo ended synthetic fibre brush which I personally rather like - one packs on the colour the other blends out harsh lines. You also receive four sachets of various Urban Decay Primer Potions - honestly I don't know how I feel about this, I mean the palette isn't cheap at £37.50 and as the other two Naked offerings came with a more substantial mini product I do feel a little let down. Sure you can try out all four primers once maybe twice but as they are a sachet they will dry out quickly once open and truthfully don't contain enough product for you to gauge a real opinion. A mini primer potion like the original palette contained would have been much better. The Naked 3 palette also offers a well sized mirror and it goes without saying as this is a tin style container it is fairly robust.

Okay enough grumbling and on to what shades are inside and what to expect in terms of formula.
As you may have noticed by now the third Naked instalment has taken the rose gold route with many of the shades have a slightly pink tinge. Yes the palette is neutral and fairly suit all but where as the Naked palette had plenty of shades to make blue/grey eyes pop, the second Naked looked wonderful on brown eyes this time around green and hazel toned eyes are in for a treat. All the mauve based shades will really allow green/hazel eyes to dazzle. Oddly I would say that Naked 3 is the most neutral of all three palettes it has an equal distribution of both cool and warm toned eyeshadows and for that reason alone I would recommend it over the other two as your first Naked purchase if you have yet to dip your toe into such waters.

The shade line up is as follows:

Strange - Very light pink, almost beige (matte) - a little powdery/chalky but well pigmented with a soft texture. One of the better matte eyeshadows I have experienced.

Dust - Light metallic pink (metallic) - a little prone to product fall out I recommend applying with a damp brush, not the most pigmented of the bunch but great for the inner corner highlight.

Burnout - Almost peachy pink (satin) - smooth, soft, silky with great colour pay off.

Limit - Pale dusty rose (matte) - great for evening out skin tone on the eye lids and as a gentle wash of colour, a little powdery but other than that no complaints.

Buzz - Metallic light rose gold (metallic) - silky soft with brilliant colour pay off a joy to apply, although somewhat glittery this does not affect the texture.

Trick - Warm pink peach (metallic) - same formulation as Buzz above.

Nooner - Medium pink brown (matte) - the name makes me cringe but there is no denying that this is a brilliant finely milled matte eyeshadow that applies wonderfully and has great pigmentation.

Liar - Cool toned rose gold (metallic) - the same texture as Burnout only this was slightly more pigmented.

Factory - Light toned mauve (shimmer) - applied similarly to Liar above only I would say this had a slightly drier texture.

Mugshot - Metallic taupe (metallic) - soft, buttery, silky soft texture with amazing pigmentation no complaints what so ever!

Darkside - Deepest taupe (matte) - perhaps the driest textured eyeshadow out of the palette but nothing a good primer can't solve. On the plus side it does offer great colour pay off.

Blackheart - Almost black with red glitter accents (glitter) - again it has a slightly dry texture which may be due to the glitter, it is a little prone to product fall out but much like the other shades it has brilliant pigmentation.

So yes the Naked 3 palette has been hyped up to death and I imagine blog feeds up until mid January will be full of reviews (sorry not sorry) but in my humble opinion it is a great palette especially if like myself you wear neutral toned eyeshadow on a daily basis. The beauty of Urban Decay eyeshadows is their formulation - they tend to be soft, easy to apply and blend, offer great pigmentation and when teamed with a primer last all day long even on oily lids. All in all a huge thumbs up from me.

My new question is will there be a Naked 4 palette? I'm betting on yes and holding out for a pastel coloured offering or even an all matte palette (yes I know we have the Naked Basics but something grander). What do you think?
