So you've bought your heel protectors online to protect your heels from blisters and other ouchies (yes I have retorted back to childhood) that various shoes and boots may cause but have you routed through your beauty stash to ensure your feet are in tip top condition?

In my opinion foot scrubs are a waste of time not to mention money unless you have really, really dry skin otherwise any facial or body scrub (the later for rough skin) will do. Heck at a push you can even make your own but at the moment due to the amazing scent I have been slathering on Elemis Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash teamed with an exfoliate glove to really slough off any dry and dead skin. No it's not a pretty sight or experience for that matter but it is worth it for the baby soft tootsies afterwards.

I always harp on and on about sleeping in socks after applying a moisturiser of some sort and my top two picks have to be hand cream - the thicker the better and if you can bear the sensation oil. Oddly I have found Argan Oil which is of course intended for the hair to be brilliant for locking in moisture. If you do plump for oil ensure that the socks you wear to bed that evening are old so that they are not ruined and don't walk on any wooden floors until it has sank it - I wouldn't want anyone to fall. If oil or moisturiser is a little too messy for your likes my mother swears by these ultimate pedicure with gel socks, quick and easy.

Perhaps my oddest tip is a silicone based primer (try and use an anti-bacterial version since it is feet we are talking about) to prevent sores on the feet from shoes that slip or rub. The primer acts as a light weight barrier but is undetectable and no where near as messy as talcum. I oddly learnt this back stage at a dance show in which my sister was dancing in - that and hairspray stops shoes from sliding on slippery surfaces - my world just got bigger! I rate the Witch Anti-Bacterial Skin Primer - cheap and cheerful.

As the feet tend to be one of the drier areas of the body you may have noticed that when you apply self tanner that it goes extremely dark on the feet? Well I have found through trial and error that facial self tanner as it is not as concentrated is your best bet. I not only use Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner on my face but also my feet and hands for a natural result. As it is not a self tanner with a guide colour I fully recommend using a tanning mitt with this particular self tanner.

My last tip is perhaps the most obvious and less than likely to be a secret for most but if you want a quick fix for hot, sweaty or sticky feet then mixing a facial toner with water (equal parts) makes for a refreshing treat. If you work long hours standing, walking or are simply hard on your feet a bottle of this made up and stored in the fridge is as close to heaven on earth as you will get...well for feet anyway.
