I have openly stated that I don't understand the appeal of the famous Chanel No5 fragrance and still stand by such sentiment - it is too strong and reminds me of a more mature woman than myself (that wouldn't be hard). However I predict (or state the obvious) that with the news of Marilyn Monroe being the official face of the infamous scent as of December this year sales will rocket...not that Chanel need the push.
As I said above 2013 is the year Ms.Monroe will be the official face of Chanel No.5 but many have associated her with the fragrance for decades thanks to her slightly naughty comment about sleeping naked.
"What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A nightgown?' So I said: 'Chanel No.5', because it's the truth," said Monroe in the 1960 recording. "And yet, I don't want to say 'nude'. But it's the truth!" - Marilyn Monroe, Life Magazine, 1952.
Is this news enough to push me to purchase the ever famous fragrance? Nope but I do think this was a long time coming and I couldn't think of anyone better. An icon for an iconic scent...it only makes sense!
I totally agree with you. Can't stand the smell of No.5 but I think they've chosen a great face for the scent and with a body like hers, I don't blame her for sleeping nakey. :P

I also agree with you about the fact that No. 5 is a very mature fragrance. To be honest I think I can say it's even my least favourite perfume.
ReplyDeleteOh so fab to have such a beaut as the face of it, but im not a fan of the fragrance, mother is tho x

That's such a beautiful ad, I actually really wish I liked the scent so I could wear what she wore! Completely agree with you though, definitely a more mature scent.
ReplyDeleteI'm not keen on the No.5 scent either, it's definitely one for the older. I can definitely see a lot of people picking this up now!

That scent is her's always has been. Regards your comment about being your thing it is a more classic fragrance... I think fragrance has moved on so much over the years... however I do appreciate it for what it is... not my thing tho either...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, to me Chanel no.5 is for mature women, and I think it may have to do with the fact that my mom wears it. But Marilyn Monroe fits perfectly!

I dislike this scent too for reasons mentioned above, but I do the No.5 Eau Premiere. It's lighter and contemporary. Marilyn Monroe is the main reason why the scent is so popular and it's right that she should represent it. She was so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about it being generally suited to a more mature women although I figure with all perfumes its down to personal preference/taste so sure some younger women like it. I love Coco Mademoiselle myself which I guess is aimed at a younger audience. Wish it wasn't quite so pricey though!
