REN No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm

Recently REN launched their Rosa Centifolia range of gentle cleansers all of which have been based on a unique 100% natural Rose Extract Complex formulation which tones, softens and soothes your skin while cleansing. All in there is five cleansers to choose from including a gel, an exfoliating cleanser, foam, balm and a cleansing water. As I prefer cleansing balms I decided to trial the REN No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm which might be one of the thickest textured cleansing balms I have tried to date and I should point out that this is not completely a new launch as the Purity Cleansing Balm has been around for quite some time now. From what I have gathered it has been reformulated and improved.

Being a REN product the No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm features a slew of natural and skin beneficial ingredients which include Roman Chamomile oil and Pink Violet leaf extract to calm redness and tp soothe the skin on one quick step. It also contains Rose oil which is known for its stress benefits albeit via aroma therapeutic properties and I have to state that this product is rather rose scented. Other ingredients include Prebiotic Oligosaccharides to protect and maintains the skin’s  natural defence barrier by supporting the good bacteria in the skins surface and lastly Lecithin to retain moisture and lock moisture into the skin.

As mentioned above this is an extremely thick balm (to the point it is difficult to dispense) which initially is a little sticky and tricky to work with but if you warm the product between your palms and then apply it to dry skin you will find it much easier to massage into the skin as it will dissolve into an oil based cleanser pretty quickly. Being a balm you take the time to thoroughly massage all over the face allowing it in it melt off both make-up and dirt (you can even use it to remove eye make-up) before adding a little water onto your face turning the consistency into an emulsified cleansing milk. There is no disputing that it cleanses effectively but the scent was a little too intense both for my personal taste and my eye area but I can contest that it does remove waterproof mascara none the less. My problem scent aside is that the balm is just too heavy and requires a lot of work before application so although I like it and rate its effectiveness it is not something I would purchase in the future as I prefer a softer texture that is quick and easy to use. However it is a great moisturising cleanser, great for all skin types that does do all it claims to - cleanses, softens and soothes not to mention that a little goes a long way so a 100ml tube will last you forever and a day.
