1. The never ending cat and mouse game of "how many coats is just right".
Too little and you run the risk of not creating long and fluttery lashes, too many and oh hey there spiders legs.
Life why must you be so complicated?
2. Great formula = rubbish brush.
3. Great brush = rubbish formula...when will it end.
4. Mascara wands looking more and more contraptions that would be better suited to torture than cosmetics.
5. Waterproof eh? Well my bawling at *insert slushy star crossed lover type film title here* says differently as does my two newly sprung black eyes.
6. Black/brown mascara masquerading as black mascara until you get it home and open it.
Nothing beats brown/black mascara mishap fury. Nothing!
7. The perfect mascara always seems gets discontinued or reformulated and it's never the same
8. The pain and inevitable eye watering a rogue mascara flake causes when it gets in your eye...and it will get you.
9. The shame and pain of poking yourself in the eye with a mascara wand, with more than 10 years of practice I am ashamed to admit that this happens more often than it should.
10. Bright blue mascara. That is all.
Radom Fact - The pharmacist behind the brand Maybelline (named after his sister Mabel and the last few letters of Vaseline), made an early form of mascara mixing coal dust and petroleum jelly.
Haha, I can definitely relate to number 9. I have the spikiest wand!

ReplyDeleteOn the opposite end of the spectrum from non-waterproof mascara is the kind that leaves you with bright red eyes and only half your eyelashes after an intense removal session (here's looking at you, benefit they're real!)
ReplyDeleteHaha yes that is also a massive pain in the butt! I'm still on the fence about they're real. It's not really swaying me one way or the other.
DeleteI hated, hated, hated TR! Panda eyes and impossible to remove. I gave it to a friend and it works beautifully on her.
DeleteThis post is so funny, you had me laughing all the way through. I also hate it when a waterproof formula smudges half way through the day or when its beyond difficult to take off at the end of night, even with a good makeup remover.

I didn't know that about Maybelline :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally understand #9, it happens to me almost every time I whip out that wand~
http://thesnowflowerrr.blogspot.com/
the discontinuing and reformulating of the perfect one is the story of my life! I had found the perfect one twice and they killed it both times...but MAC still claim they just altered it and renamed it. Wonder if they believe it themselves

ReplyDeleteHaha, number 6! Why do they sneakily pretend? xx
ReplyDeleteIve tried most mascaras and the only one ive stuck to over the years is clinique high impact. The extreme version is calling my name now.x

Agree with all of these! Now I wash the mascara spoolies if the brush is any good when I've finished one... or decide it's crap and chuck it.. so I can use the good brush with the good formulas! If it will fit in the tube..

I always apply my mascara using the classic rotating the wand at the bottom of my lashes but have recently started using they're real by benefit and although it is amazing I have definitely blinded myself a few times with the ridiculously spikey brush.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's a new application technique or a new mascara for me!

9 is one of the worst pains in the world. Also ruins all your make up and you can't see to correct it. Been the reason I've been late to work more than once.

Ahahaha! Who can't relate to all this! :) xx
