L'Oreal's latest hair care innovation is one of those products that is so clever yet basic at the same time that it will make you wonder why it was never thought of before.
Basically L'Oreal Mousse Absolue is L'Oreal's first reusable at home hair colouring solution that also happens to be permanent. L'Oreal Mousse Absolue is available in a sizable collective of shades - 14 in total all of which come in selected colour families: Blonde, Brunette and Red shades.
Not only can you re-use the dye as many times as you wish or as the canister allows which is perfect for those touching up their roots and/or those with ombre but L'Oreal Mousse Absolue is pre-mixed which means all you have to do is shake and spray. Gone are the days of mixing and shaking which truth be told I never do all that well as I am pretty weak and as it is a mousse product it eliminates all the usual spills and splashes. It really is as easy as popping off the protective cap, clicking on the dispenser and applying the colour to your hair, simplicity at its finest! The dye is dispensed along with the devloper from two canisters and as mentioned is pre-mixed.
I was sent shade 1021 Very Light Frosted Blonde (Blond Tres Tres Clair Perlescent) which of course is far too light for my current hair colouring but I did whack a little onto my ends to see if it did anything.
It didn't but my hair is still pretty dark but what I can say is that despite being a super blonde shade it hasn't damaged or dried out my hair and is certainly a formula I would use should I find a good colour match to my current hair colour. My aim is to have my hair around the L'Oreal 730 Sunkissed Dark Blonde mark come the summer.
Innovative, gentle on the hair, doesn't drip and is quick to use, it really is a wonderful concept.
L'Oreal Preference Mousse Absolue Permanent Hair Colour* is currently £8.99 from both Superdrug and Boots - link but will be priced £10.99 after the introductory offer expires on the 8th of May.

This is such a good idea! I always hate if I have hairdye left at the end of a bottle as I hate wasting it, so being able to use it another time would be perfect for me! xx
ReplyDeleteI bought this from Asda, it cost £10.99. I applied it on the night and had to do it again the next morning, despite this the color would not take.
ReplyDeleteSame here - I tried this yesterday and the colour didn't take to my grey hairs. I will try it again (at least I can re-use!) - the idea is amazing and the mousse goes on really well, but if it doesn't work - whats the point! Very disappointing!!
Delete@Tracey oh no :( I thought the colour didn't take due to my hair being dark. Really sorry to hear that. Thanks for drawing that to my attention :)
Delete@alex I agree the concept is great but if the colour isn't taking it is a waste of money. Thanks for letting me know :)
the same thing happened to me bought colour 730 and it didnt take on either my grey hair or my non grey hair .
Delete@Laura I'm really sorry to hear that, like I said above it did nothing to my hair either which I put down to the fact it is dark not the formula. I am thankful that so many have said about the problems though! I don't think I'll bother trying another shade truth be told.
DeleteDoesnt work used it all on my roots
DeleteDid not touch my gray and I left on longer than I should have. I'm am trying for second time as we speak. Did anyone notice the smell of the ammonia being 10x as pungent as the first time use??

ReplyDeleteI am very dissapointed in absoloue. I have always used Loreal Recital Preference and it covered my grey roots perfectly. I used the colour 415 Dark Iced Chocolate same as the colour I used with Recital but with the Absoloue there were lots of areas that hadn't taken when I checked it and had to put more on and leave for longer. It is definately not the same colour match and I will probably have to do it again in 2 weeks. I feel that the mousse disolves before it has taken properly so maybe need to keep shaking the can to keep it thick. I have used Loreal products for years and am not at all impressed with this one. I have been colouring my hair for many years too so I do know what I am doing. At the promotion price if £8.99 it would have been affordable but when it goes to the Normal price of £10.99 it won't bw cost effective if you have to apply it twice a month.
ReplyDeleteIt's not so much the price that bothers me (I'd be just as annoyed had it cost £5.99 like most at home dyes) it's the fact that it simply isn't working. I've said above that I honestly just put my experience down to the fact I used a light shade and my hair is dark but now I know it is not the case I'm not impressed. So far everyone has said the same thing and I really do think it should be brought to L'Oreal's attention. Thank you for sitting down and sharing your experience I am grateful :)
DeleteI have just tried Absolute 500 and was extremely disappointed. This product had absolutely no effect on my grey hair,in fact it just washed off.
ReplyDeleteI shall just be going back to using Loreal Excellence, I shall have to re-do immediately. I kept getting the impression the foams were just not mixing properly, as I initally thought it contained no amonia.
Big hype, poor product and expensive.
Your right, at £10.99 it is far from the budget end of at home colouring and normally L'Oreal do so well, I used to use the semi permanent colour riche's and found them to be wonderful. I think the entire formula needs to be re-thought it is no coincidence that so far everyone has used it has experienced no results!
DeleteOmg. The ammonia smell I'm experiencing as I text is overwhelming bin almost tempted to wash out. It was not at all this strong as I agree with above comment as to containing ammonia the first time. I have very short hair and think their may be a third use. If it will stick this time.
DeleteThe first time I tried this it was great - it worked, and it covered the grey. The second time - just on the roots: it didn't colour the grey at all. I'll give it another go, leaving it on longer next time, and report back. I thought this product would change my life! So disappointing.
ReplyDeleteSame problem here. I am very disappointed. MY grey hair is still showing. Waste of £10.99 :(((((((
ReplyDeleteComplete rubbish... didn't cover - colour is awful... left tons of residue and washed it 3 times since... just feels greasy and disgusting - hair is mid length and I used it all.. will be going back to john frieda foam... on phone to head office for ever trying to speak to someone loreal preference mousse absolue is not worth the effort... ReplyDeleteRubish had to use it all on my roots doesnt cover very very dissapointed what a rip off
ReplyDeleteAbsolute rubbish, thought it would be great as reusable and to be honest it didn't work, the mousse remained a white colour, thought it would change when I applied it, so disappointed, didn't cover grey or original colour, a waste of money, I used the 400 natural dark brunette, will never buy this hair colour again, il stick to the Feria.
ReplyDeleteJust used for my mums hair 500 omg was fuming was wondering why ther was no smell to it and why it wasnt staining her skin it was because only the 1side was coming out.took the pump of and squirted each 1 seperate the 1 thatwas working had no smell to it i struggled to get the other side to squirt but when it did it stunk so straight away inew it was just one side working what a waste of money i am contacting l'oreal cause tjats really not good
ReplyDeleteTotal waste of money! - I bought L’oreal Mousse Absolue in natural medium brown to do my roots, it came out a very light brown, you could still see the roots and flecks of grey. I wasn’t satisfied so I went back and bought rich dark chocolate. This time I ended up with a hot red root line!.... I give up with this make of dye as it doesn’t do the job. Great idea to be reusable but absolutely useless if it doesn’t do what is required. Fir my whole head, I have been using John Frieda dark chocolate brown, it is brilliant, can’t fault it. It lightens after a few washes but because of the multi tones it still look great. Everyone tells me my hair colour is great even hairdressers. I only bought the L’oreal for the reusable convenience but from now on I am going to stick to Mr Frieda and hope that he decides to make his foams reusable!
ReplyDeleteI just used the sun kissed dark blonde over my bleached blonde white hair and I absolutely love it. Its gone so even and a gorgeous colour. Had to use 2 packs but my hair is long and really thick. Well chuffed

ReplyDeleteI have been colouring my hair for over 20 years and recently more often at home because of greys – so I am sort of a pro. I loved the innovation of the Mousse Absolue and was excited to find such a product.
ReplyDeleteI am a beach-blonde and I tried the Ash Very light blonde for my roots, unfortunately the result was disastrous as my roots turned out orange although I have been using this shade for ever with other brands. I had to redo my hair to go to work the next day.
I decided to go darker at the roots so I tried the No 5. Again, the results were awful. After 40 minutes there was NO grey coverage and my hair hardly looked different. Also, the ammonia smell was so intense, I almost fainted.
I have read a few reviews with the same problems and I am certain that this line will either be discontinued or replaced. It definitely has huge issues, although the concept is great.
Does not cover grey hairs. I tried it on my hair and it has made no difference at all - the shade is the same as my colour now - 900. I love the delivery system and the conditioner is fantastic but the colour itself is worse than useless - L'oreal need to go back to their chemists!
ReplyDeleteAre you serious?. Big Wow! This product seems pretty good. I will surely buy it and i am sure after L’Oreal Mythic Oil, that i am using for years, i will like this product. Well, Thanks for sharing. Excellent blog.
ReplyDeleteJust used this product, far from happy with the results, unable to rinse this chemical out of my hair, 3 x rinses over 20 mins each time and still have this stuff in my hair. Don't waste your money.

ReplyDeleteUpdate on my 2nd coloring, hoping for gray coverage. I am terribly dissatisfied with this product. I had had high hopes because the consensus for this product is fabulous however if it doesn't color your hair, what's the point. Some other company will come in behind them with a better product if they don't fix this problem now. I believe they need to start with repaying their loyal customers who have taken the time to post these results in order to help the company progress. Let them decide how but that would be my first move, loyalty.
ReplyDeleteDoes not work AT ALL. And the odor was so strong that I had to keep moving away. My eyes were burning and I had to hold my breath. My hair is very short with lots of grey but I won't even do the second application; it was torturous but ineffective.
