Make-up wise there is nothing sexier in my opinion than a bright red lip and for me it has to be a matte shade. Last year images of Kourtney Kardashian popped up on gossip columns and all I could focus on was the amazing bright orange lips she was sporting. Rumor has it that it was MAC Lady Danger but Khroma Beauty have a great alternative in their Khroma Beauty Joystick Lip Lacquer in Retro Red.
If you are a fan of the chunky lip crayons which do seem to be all the range at the moment then I think you will enjoy the packaging of the Khroma Beauty Joysticks. Unlike some offerings the Khroma Beauty Joysticks are not chunky and are pretty slim - a middle ground between a lip liner and a fat lip crayon if you will. The slim packaging allows for ease of control and precise application and the screw up function means you never loose a huge chunk of your lip product due to sharpening.
At the moment I can not say in full confidence how many shades of the Khroma Beauty Joysticks will be available within the European market but a quick look at the Ulta website -link shows eight shades, hopefully we will get the full shade variety as I have my eye on Sea Coral.
As mentioned I have the shade Retro Red which is similar to MAC Lady Danger and So Chaud, basically Retro Red is a yellow based red shade that has a slight orange undertone and is pretty warm overall.
In my opinion Retro Red is a great shade for those with yellow/golden undertones to their complexion and is utterly sizzling with tanned skin.
Retro Red is well pigmented but quite bright so not one for the faint hearted.
I assumed that the Khroma Beauty Joystick Lip Lacquer's would be similar in texture to that of the Au Natural Lip Perfector Kit - link but I have found the Joysticks to be a little firmer in texture and do need to be warmed a little before the true intensity of the shade can be revealed. I have used my arm swatch image to show you how it applies when left unheated and once it warms up a little.
The best way to describe the texture and overall formula of the Khroma Beauty Joysticks is to compare them to a waxy lip liner, once warmed (I use my fingertips) they apply beautifully but if not they can be weakly pigmented and pull on the lips. That aside once applied they are not overly drying and feel like a typical matte lipstick, some may feel the need for a lip balm or gloss.
In terms of wear I found that each application wore true for close to the three hour mark before fading evenly to a stain..
Admitedly I don't think these will be everyone's cup of tea but if you like a long wearing matte lip colour they are well worth investigating once they launch.
At the moment I have no date or price point for the Khroma Beauty Joystick Lip Lacquer* but will update as soon as I do!

This is a lovely colour. What brand would you say Khroma are comparable to? Not tried any of the products yet, but very tempted.
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know, Kourtney wrote on her blog (I'm not a fangirl, honest!) that 'the' lipstick was YSL Rouge Pur Couture 13 Le Orange. I have that and MAC Lady Danger and they are very similar!
xx
I would say Revlon when they are good they are really good but there is a few misses too.
DeleteOoh it's okay I'm a bit of a fan girl haha! Oddly I knew she loved Le Orange as I tried to buy it at a counter and the lady told me it was Kourtney's favourite and as a result always sold out. You have given me the push to buy it ;) xx
Oh My Goodness, that colour looks gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteIt suits you very well :)
This seems very lovely! I'm glad because I thought it would be a miss xx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the Khroma range is being extended, I've brought a few bits from them already but was a bit disappointed that the product range in the UK was so small. I'm sitting on the fence with regards to the products. I loved the Khole palette, really well pigmented, but was a little disappointed with the Au natural lip set. The gloss tasted horrible to me and found that there wasn't enough gloss on the applicator, which meant I had to keep re-pumping it to get any on my lips ( not good if you want a quick touch up during the day, takes ages!!) This lipstick looks a lovely colour , but I feel that it's lacking in research due to the fact that you have to sit there warming it up to put it on! I dunno thought that the girls would have been right on track when it come to a bit of lippy. :/

I really want to try out Khroma Beauty. I've heard so much about it!
