The beauty world is a fickle place to reside with many products working wonderful so for one individual yet reeking havoc on another's skin.
I don't fully believe in "bad" products rather I feel it is more of a case of what works for me may not for you and vice versa.
With that in mind some of your favourite beauty bloggers and tweeters share the products they found to be overrated or had a negative experience with!
Ali Zombie doesn't rate the NYX Eye Palettes stating that each one she has used has produced ridiculous amounts of fall out and they crease terribly too!
Hannah had problems with Bourjois Flower Perfection Primer finding it interfered with any product she applied on top...oh dear!
Clara found that Boots No7 primer turned her skin green rather than calming any red tones!
Hailey had problems with Philosophy's Purity Cleanser including a break out.
Jade states that Boots Botanics Eye Make-up Remover did nothing for her noting that it was ridiculously greasy and wasn't effective at removing eye make-up at all!
Marvelle has dry skin yet when she uses Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream it made her an oily mess!
Grace had no luck with Murad's Pomegranate Exfoliating Face Mask finding it to be closer to a burning sensation than a typical tingle despite not having sensitive skin.
Georgia states that neither Benefit Dandelion Powder or Benefit Posey Tint are for her. Both lacked in pigmentation and failed to show up on her skin tone.
Sarirah found that Una Brennan moisture mask made her skin burn..ouch.
Steph doesn't think that Soap and Glory's Thick and Fast mascara is worth its price tag.
Anne says that as much as she loves Urban Decay's Midnight Rodeo and Midnight Cowboy eyeshadow shades she can't get to grips with the the glitter fallout and finds them hard to remove.
Amy can't get to grips with Simple Moisturisers noting that they leave her skin feeling greasy!
Laura reacted badly to Balance Me's eyecream which resulted in a rash and dry skin that took at least a week to get rid of.
Hayley just didn't get on with Sleek's contour kit stating that it looked dirty against her skin tone.
Fiona finds that although MAC Lipglasses have beautiful shades colours and that the L.E packaging is to die for sometimes but they're are simply too sticky!
Lou is another person who doesn't fully rate MAC noting that their eyeshadows can be rivaled by much cheaper brands.
Aseya doesn't rate Kevin Murphy's Colour Bugs...I've got to say I am intrigued!
Stacey notes that Soap and Glory's Kick Ass Concealer creased under her eyes regardless to how she applied it.
Jess says that Avon Supershock potted Gel eyeliners lack in pigmentation and are no where near as good as the pencil versions...I have to agree!
Gemma notes that despite smelling yummy Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder, was far too orange and went patchy on her skin.
Katherine states that Origins Make A Difference treatment never sank into her skin, she didn't enjoy the scent and found it to be greasy.
Sarah found Origins Drink Up Mask only okay nothing to write home about!
Gem would like to add to the Origins grumble list, stating that their Spot Remover Treatment did nothing for her.
Faye Marie does not rate the Instyler at all!
Sarah found out that Benefit's They're Real Mascara did not turn out to be the wonder product for her.
Lisa does not think Rimmel's pressed powders of any variety are worth all the hype they receive!
As a nail polish fan Serenity of Beauty does not rate Nails Inc polishes.
Daniella found Simple's Eye Make-up remover to sting her eyes.
Zoe found YSL's Touche Eclat to not cover all that well and leave her skin dry and cakey!
Both Kassie and Lilley found Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation to have a bizarre texture and not agree with their skin types
Tanzina really isn't a fan of Benefit's Erase Paste and has found better concealers.
Lauren , Helen and Sam found Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Gloss to be sticky and tingly bordering on painful...yikes!
Kate can not get on board with MUA's BB Cream noting that it highlighted all of her dry patches rather than disguising them.
Lastly Rachel tells us that the product she found to be overrated is Soap and Glory's Hot Cloth Cleanser
as it irritated her skin a little.
Do you agree with any of the above?
I agree with quite a lot of these - but I love the Sleek Contour Kit!
ReplyDeleteMidnight Violets Beauty Blog
this is a really really cool post :D i agree with some of these, and disagree with others, its all about your skin type and skin, but its great to see other people views on products :D
ReplyDeletei have a post on the kevin murphy colour bugs when they first came out, i love them, if you would like a look ill leave the link, its also when of the very first blog posts i did, so it may not be very good haha
http://penelopesbeautyobsession.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/review-kevin-murphy-colour-bug.html
This was very helpful, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the NYX palette rant! I got one for christmas and got really excited as the colors seemed gorgeous, but the pigmentation just does not do it (I have to swirl the brush around to get a decent amount of color on my lids!)
I also recently got the Stay Matte powder as well and I have to agree here too. It's nice, but it's nothing ground breaking. My t-zone is very oily so I have to touch up after 2 or 3 hours anyway. The color is great though, very yellow-ish which works well with my skin tone :)

Oh, I love some of the things people mentioned! But I have to agree with the UD shadows, the glitter is just too big! I just thought Color Bug was super overrated and not worth the price tag. It made my hair dry and tacky and got EVERYWHERE! Here's a link to my full review :) http://www.prettyinthedesert.com/2013/01/kevin-murphy-color-bug.html
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Post hun! :) Glad to be able to help you out with it! :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI cant say I love the new Rimmel Apocalips, if your into very opaque bold lips then great but i found them to look very dry, no gloss (luna shade) and heavy looking. But i do adore the soap and glory nudist lip gloss pen.....x
ReplyDeleteI like Origins skincare, Soap & Glory mascara and MAC eyeshadows!
ReplyDeleteOh I love Nails Inc! Especially the graffiti collection! Haha
ReplyDeleteI don't rate the YSL Touche Eclat either, but most peoples complaint with it is that is doesn't cover anything - when that's not what it's supposed to do, it's a highlighting pen NOT a concealer.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it because my dark circles are too dark, and simply highlighting the area doesn't hide the dark blue tones enough. Obviously leaving your skin dry and cakey is another issue, but no one should expect it to cover anything. When I read bad reviews of it everywhere because of coverage it really bugs me! lol
xx
I love my Garnier BB cream! I find it's quite greasy on most skin types but I have really dry skin so it looks okay on me. Alot of things I wanted to try are on her, might aswell save my money and look for alternatives.
ReplyDeleteOHSO FLAWLESS
A few of the products listed are my favorites! I love Philosophy's Purity! So does my boyfriend, who normally thinks most fancy cleansers are greasy. I also really love Benefit's They're Real. It definitely makes my lashes look like fake ones. Its a pain to remove though, so I only wear it on special occasions. Also, Benefit Erase Paste, which is perfect for someone who is a bit older (I'm 34) but you have to make sure you use just a tiny bit.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your remark that it depends on skin type. Not all products work the same on everyone.
Have to agree with the comments made about simple, the garnier BB cream & nail inc! Fab post hun! x
ReplyDeleteI nodded in agreement throughout
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know, I like the Liz Earl face cream quite a bit, as well as the look of Benefit Dandelion. But many of these things are often overhyped, I agree!
ReplyDeleteI agree with alot of them but disagree about the mac eyeshadows as i find them totbe superior to most brands. I dont find the lipglasses sticky either.x
ReplyDeleteOMG what a job you make!!! Follow all that people and analyse all they say!! Agree, dont agree, its just great!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to read posts like these once in awhile to remind that beauty products aren't all full of raves, sunshines and rainbows. :p I agree with a few of those mentioned but love the Garnier BB cream. :) x
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Sleek Contour Kit, the highlight powder in it doesn't even show up on my skin tone and the contouring powder is okay but looks muddy so I layer it on top of my Nars Laguna Bronzer if I want to deepen my contouring colour! Great post - very interesting!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe NARS Orgasm wasn't mentioned! Cleanse & Polish is nice but easily duped, LE Instant Boost Skin Tonic on the other hand is amazing! Totally deserves more praise! One mans trash is another mans treasure as my mum would say! X
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about the GHD comments! They heat up WAY too hot and don't offer an alternative temperature setting. I have some but I use my Diva Argan Styler more. Disagree with the Nails Inc comments though. Their product innovation is amazing and their polishes last a whole week on my nails. Great post lovely xx

ReplyDeleteWow so many people got in touch with you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for including me, most appreciated. I agree with quite a few things on there and not with others, everbody is different though after all which is what we all should remember :)

I have to agree with the They're Real mascara by BeneFit and Garnier's BB Cream, same reasons as theirs!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the InStyler. Not only does it not hold a style for longer than half an hour but it burns the hair at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI don't get they hype Surrounding Bioderma or Benefit There Real. They're not bad products but nothing special either.
xo
Oh and I agree on MAC eyeshadows too, the few I own are really bad quality.
Deletexo
Such a shame that people have had bad experiences with these products! But thanks for telling us so that we don't make the same mistake! xxx
ReplyDeletehttp://unstitchedd.blogspot.co.uk/
I do not agree with some of them and agree with the rest. I swear by Soap & Glory mascara. I would add The Body Shop's Vitamin E to one of the overrated products - it broke me so bad every 3 times I used it. Everyone is different.
ReplyDeletemademoiselle-lala.com
I agree with quite a lot of these, especially the UD eyeshadows which just leave me with a glitter face however lovely the shades are! :(
ReplyDeletedefinitely love MAC eyeshadows though! x
http://www.thebeautyvisual.blogspot.co.uk/
I agree with the Simple Eye Make Up Remover...I thought it was only me! How can a gentle product hurt so much?! :(
ReplyDeletelifehighslowsandgarb.blogspot.co.uk
LOVE THIS POST! ive literally opened in a separate tab over half of these bloggers to see their thoughts in more detail!
ReplyDeleteI must admit i never gave into the Caudalie beauty elixir - i think its overpriced! xx
Have to completely disagree on some of these, Nails Inc do the best polishes imo, they dry brilliantly shiny and last for days without chipping. I also swear by Boots Bontanics eye makeup remover, it's the best for removing waterproof mascara and although its oily, it's help to soothe the skin around the eyes which can be aggravated when removing makeup. However, I do agree with LOTS on this list, including the Bourjois Delice bronzing powder going on patchy, Soap & Glory's lipgloss being too sticky and GHD's being overrated- I used FHIs and they're brilliant (the same ones lots of salons use, and are much cheaper!)

I agree on a lot of these, especially Benefit's Erase Paste. I was really dissapointed with it and it's one of the more pricey options out there. Bummer!
ReplyDeleteHaven't used many of these products so I can't give my two cents but I was just wondering if a poll was done or was this comment-based? I hear the Liz Earle C&P is awesome but maybe not worth the hype when Superdrug's own brand create a similar product for a fraction of the cost.
ReplyDeleteI agree to the rating for Nyx Trio (GAH such bad creasing and fall out) and erase paste.
ReplyDeleteCompletely completely agree that avon gel pot liners are rubbish, their pencils are amazing! This was such a clever post!

What a brilliant post! Totally agree with the Dandelion blusher and most of the S&Glory stuff - so shit! Pretty packaging is not enough. Oh yes and the MAC products are overrated too. Eyeshadows there's better out there by MUA, Fashionista, Sleek, etc and lippies is the same!
ReplyDeletethere are so many products on this post I haven't tried myself but the purity cleanser did break me out as well. Loved reading this post:)
ReplyDeleteSara x
Agree with so many. But the one the stands out the most is NailsInc, over priced, crappy wear and not great to apply.

I totally agree about the Bourjois bronzer, wich does smell lovely but on me never blends properly and looks orange, and the Rimmel powders, they're cheap, and that's a plus, but I think they totally feel like cheap powders on the skin, and I felt so much of a difference trying this and theBalm sexy mama translucent powder!
ReplyDeleteWow, I don't agree with a lot of these. I absolutely love benefit's they're real mascara, love anything by Origins, and I've been using the InStyler on my hair since it came on the market and love it. I guess everyone has their own opinion of what works best for them.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! There´s so many overrated things... I agree with Rimmel powders, they are so "powdery"!! :(
ReplyDeletexx
Great summary post!

i love this post, ive always wanted to try benefit dandelion!:)
ReplyDeletehttp://laurenlovesmakeupxoxo.blogspot.co.uk/
Thanks for including me, I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggles with NYX eyeshadows! I agree about Nails Inc though, I find my Barry M polishes have lasted twice as long as my Nails Inc ones that are now gloopy and congealed :/ Not surprising Soap And Glory products have come up quite a bit, I bought the waterproof smoulder kohl in confidence because it was so expensive, but it's nowhere near waterproof in the slightest!
ReplyDeleteZombiesWearEyeliner
i love love love benefit dandelion, it's really help me to brightening my skin .. the problem is the cute but not-so-travel friendly packaging..
ReplyDeletenice post btw :)
www.sweetvanillascent.blogspot.com
I'm not a huge fan of InStyler either.
ReplyDeleteThank you for including me :)
Oh wow... I totally agree with so many of these! I think that the Sleek Contour kit is awful... the shimmer is so disco like on the skin. I hate the muddy brown "contour" colour too.
ReplyDeleteghd's are SO over hyped... there are so many better straighteners for less than half the price! I couldn't wait to get rid of mine.. and get some Babyliss ones instead. This is such a good post... and I honestly agree with about 90% of them :D
Gem xx | Miss Makeup Magpie
I agree a lot with this post but then a few items I absolutely love is on here. So you are right it's all a matter of what works for each person.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! I defo agree that there are much better and cheaper alternatives to GHDs. I purchased a pair of Tresemme Straightners in the House of Fraser sale for £20 and I think they are just as good, if not better than my old GHDs. But YSL Touche Eclat is one of my all time favourite products.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.misslinnyo.blogspot.co.uk/
Simple's products invariably irritate my skin and as for the eye makeup remover - ouch. "Hypoallergenic" is a bit of a meaningless term anyway, but Simple are notably bad on my skin compared with pretty much anything else.
ReplyDeleteDandelion works for me because I'm stupidly pale, but I can get it not showing up on a lot of people. But then I can't wear half the things those people can because they're too intense for my glow-in-the-dark pastiness.
Oh BeneFit products... I could say they are ALL crap. But the thing about the cosmetics world is generally you need to purchase the product to see if it works for you, even if you buy it once it's a very lucrative business...
ReplyDeleteThis was SUCH an interesting post. I do disagree with a lot of these, and these reviews also probably wouldn't stop me trying any of the things I haven't yet, but it's really fascinating to read the different opinions on beauty products. Of course things aren't going to work the same for everyone and it just shows how important it is to do a little research, or at least read the bottle or swatch before buying something because it's the current raved about product in the blogosphere! Also as many people have mentioned, there's often perfectly good alternatives too, it pays to shop around and work out what works best for you!
