Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2-in-1 Make-Up Remover - Review

To remove my eye make-up my regular eye make-up remover of choice is Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Make-Up Remover Gel which is as cheap as chips but pretty damn amazing.
However I ran out and as I don't have a Boots store near I had to make do with what my local supermarket offered and that is how I came about testing Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2-in-1 Make-Up Remover.

I don't really deem myself to have sensitive skin but when it comes to my eyes I do tend to go for the most gentle option as I feel you can never really play it too safe and this one does promise to
contain no perfume, no alcohol and you do not have to rub to see results.

All of those of those aspects have turned out to be true but I don't really rate it as a facial make-up
removing product due to it being rather oily - the blue layer on top is a make-up removing oil
that is enriched with B5 and to activate it you simply shake the bottle combining the two liquids
then dispense the product on to cotton pads and swipe away any make-up.

I dislike oil on my face but as an eye make-up remover it is rather effective,
gentle on the eyes yet powerful enough to remove stubborn waterproof mascara
without having to be vigorous and upsetting the delicate eye area.
Surprisingly although oil based it does not leave behind much of a residue
but if you are anti-oil like myself it is nothing that a dry cotton pad can't mop up.

Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2-in-1 Make-Up Remover 200ml/£2.99 via Superdrug - link
but it is on offer in Morrisons for £1.50 so something to look out for when you do the weekly shop!

  1. I have oily skin, but I do love using cleansing oil as a makeup remover, as I have never had a problem with it making me extra oily. I have used this makeup remover for the past year or so and I love it. I don't have sensitive skin either, but I do love that this works decently and never stings my eyes or makes my skin dry. I am nearly finished my 3rd bottle of this and I bought the eye makeup remover version of this as a back up... I'm curious to see how it compares

  3. This sounds great!! I'm completely against oil on the face aswell as mine doesn't like it either but I may give this a go as I need an effective make-up remover.

Just a question - as a fellow oily what is the best primer you have used to help difuse the situation? I normally use EsteƩ Lauders idealist pore minimiser but feel I need something a little more effective at the moment...

    1. It does exactly what it says on the tin :)

I use a trio of products to prime: MAC Oil Control Lotion, UD Deslicker spray and Benefit The Porefessional. My skin is really oily though so you may be able to just use one of those three and see fab results :)

  4. I use this. Mainly because it's almost always on offer but also because it blimmin works. Makes my eyes feel moisturised and i don't need to scrub to get rid of the makeup. I can't see why i should change to some expensive brand ever.

  5. I hate the oil in this make up remover and really struggled to use the whole bottle! I just couldn't stand it! I started to use L'Oreal Dermo expertise make up remover and its a dream to work with!

  7. I love this I think it works really well, the oil isn't an issue for me as I was my face after anyways. I tried the Boots cucumber one but it stung so badly- I really wanted to like it too because it's so cheap!

  9. This is amazing, forget Bioderma that did nothing for me, this however shifts my make up so quick, i use Estee Lauder's double wear and that shit does NOT move! seriously, this is the BEST cleanser that i've found to remove it, i then go on to use a wash off cleanser. Great review, i never see anyone blog about this and i legit love it :D
