I bought Mac Power to the People thinking it was very much a novelty highlighting product which I guess it is in some sense but it is aimed at highlighting the eye area not the face like a typical highlighter...most odd!
Adding to it's oddness is the fact that it looks like Mr Blobby (Google him if you are not British)
has put his name to the collection not Beth Ditto.
So yes this is supposedly an eyeshadow “Play with polka dots to create highlighting effects on your eyes by blending the colours of this ultra-fine, lightweight pressed powder with a velvet-smooth finish.”
Okay cool but everything about it screams blush/face product to me, from the large section of pink
to the fact that it is housed in Mac's typical blush/face powder compact.
I have to be honest and say that I ordered in a rush without paying any mind to the description,
I assumed that it was a face product given it's deceiving looks and that Mac had lumped it into
the face category on their site - very misleading Mac!
Normally I would go ahead and swatch the product and write up my review regardless of what the item was
but after reading Temptalia's review - link (normally I check out such blogs before making an order list
but the UK launched this collection before it hit the US/Canada) and after seeing how chalky each shade is
and generally how under performing this item is I have decided not to touch the product but to send it back.
I know I will never use it for it's intended use and as a blush I wasn't that impressed
I know I will never use it for it's intended use and as a blush I wasn't that impressed
by the swatches and given that it costs £21.50 I think I would rather have a refund and a blush that
I would use rather than some crazy palette that has me most confused!
Have you ever bought a cosmetic item only to be disappointed and have to return?
More importantly which blush should I get with my refund haha!
Mac Powder to the People £21.50/10g - link
This looks interesting haha! Strange how it's marketed as an eyeshadow of some kind but looks like a blush. I think I'd return this as well; better to get something you'll use than something that'll remain un-used. :)
ReplyDeleteIt has most perplexed haha :) very well said Farzana :)
Deletehaha, this product has got to be the strangest that i have seen. It does look pretty cute and i understand that anybody would buy it for the novelty side of it. But like you said, its not a blush and to be frank, i wouldn't know how to use it for the eye area. I hope when you return it, you purchase something better and worth the money!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing~x

I hope so too :) I think I shall get a new foundation :)
Deleteit looks sooo cute but im sad to hear it's chalky! -Loving Sunshine
ReplyDeleteI swatched this yesterday at a MAC Counter, and was surprised by reviewers "chalky"/poor formula claims. To me, it actually felt very finely milled and soft. When I ran my fingers in a circle through the whole product and swatched a large area of my hand, it blended incredibly well, diffusing into my hand with a very natural (non-chalky) finish. The color actually caught me off guard - I thought it'd be a dirty plummy color, but actually, it creates an illuminating light bronze with dark pink undertones. The way it looks on Karen's (from Makeup and Beauty Blog - http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/polka-dots-robots-and-mac-beth-ditto-powder-to-the-people/) is very accurate to what it looked like when I swatched it. I thought it was pretty, but I didn't think the overall design was too appealing, and I thought it was overpriced in general. I'm curious to see what other reviewers say about this product. It seems to have everyone confused lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie :) I haven't touched it but I agree it doesn't look all that chalky to me in swatches. I saw it on Karen and Christine but my skin tone is deeper and more golden than Christines but paler than Karens so I felt like testing this was too big a risk given that I don't really care for the swatches on either blog but now that you have swatched it and like it I'm torn haha :)
DeleteI thought this was a blush! It's quite baffling. I didn't even know you could return MAC makeup!
ReplyDeleteYes as long as it hasn't been touched or if it is faulty :)
DeleteI've seen it swatched and it looks like a dull nudey/brown colour! Didn't realise it was for the eyes though! xx
ReplyDeleteDid you like it in person?
Deletehmmm this doesn't look very appealling but maybe it works wonders!

Haha thank you ;)
Deletei adore the desing:)
ReplyDeleteI can't make up my mind about it at all haha :)
DeleteI've only ever been dissapointed with drugstore products and they can't be retun red as far as I know, still I suppose it's nice I've always been happy with expensive products!

You can return anything if it is faulty :) but i'm glad you have only had good experiences :)
DeleteI didn't bother with this collection, the majority seemed to look like an utter fail from MAC. I am also very confused with this powder, it is just bizarre.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely it wasn't the best was it!
DeleteYeaaaaaah. I think this product was a terrible idea. I don't know what they thought people were going to do with it!
