I finally have my paws on a bottle of Rainbow Connection after waiting what feels like an absolute age! I'm sure you have seen this polish everywhere lately and will either love or loathe it. It has sold out almost everywhere (ASOS has now sold out) so like me you'll have to scour eBay/blogsales etc for a reasonable priced bottle. I got mine from eBay after attempting to order from ASOS, I paid just over £11 for mine which isn't too bad considering that the original retail price is £10.50 and it is one of those items that everyone and their granny lusts after so the prices on eBay will reflect that.
OPI Rainbow Connection is of course a chunky glitter polish that best serves as topcoat. The glitter housed inside a clear base is a variation of both sizes and colours. Now that I own it I somehow imagined the glitter inside to be far more vibrant that what I actually have, the glitter verges on pastel hues rather than bright bold primary shades. I've read that some have difficulty dispersing the glitter evenly the best way I have found to do it is to wipe any excess base off on the spout of the bottle than dab rather than stroke the polish on. That way you get a more even coverage of glitter.
As with most OPI polishes the quality is excellent and it dries expectationally quick. My only quibble which is surely expected with a glitter top coat is the grittiness once dry which not all glitter polishes possess. I like to pair this polish with a green undercoat, it gives it a decorated Christmas Tree sort of appeal...no just me then?
Amy from Flaws and All blog noted that Technic's Carnival Nail Polish is actually a really good dupe for OPI's Rainbow Connection so being the inquisitive bugger that I am I had to investigate as I own both polishes. I have to agree the overall effect isn't very much different with the main differences being the size and shape of the glitter and also the tones of the glitter flecks. Dare I say it I actually prefer the Technic version as the glitter in this polish is more vibrant. If you are lusting after OPI Rainbow Connection but don't fancy forking out £12 plus then I highly recommend you pick up Technic Carnival which costs a mere £2.89 (since posting some readers have noticed that the seller has finished the listing but it does say more than 10 are left so why not email the seller and see if you can get one that way?) that is including p&p!
Just clicked the link, it's no longer available, and it's not available on Fragrance Direct either - gutted, I actually prefer it to Rainbow Connection too! Great post Adrienne :)
ReplyDelete@Yu- oh that is odd the linke had plenty left as little as an hour ago, I wonder if the seller has had more sales since both I and Amy have posted about it and want to relist them for more ££? Thank you :) x

They're really similar!
ReplyDeleteThe first time i used this as a top coat i applied one thin coat without wiping all the excess on my nails in different directions to get a good coat of glitter, and commented on my blog saying how it wasnt so gritty, the next time i did it however i wanted more coverage of the glitter and it ended up being very very gritty! :(
ReplyDeleteThis is such a Christmas nail polish, it's like Christmas in a bottle! Great post love your dupe posts! x
