- This post contains sponsored content - Halloween is mere days away and you may be stuck for ideas, and by that I mean something fun, easy to wear and do, that won't break the bank and is perhaps suitable to wear at the office and beyond, as Halloween falls on a Monday this year. Worry not, I've thought of everything and then some.
One thing you will easily find that is cheap, cheerful and spookily themed is false eyelashes - they are everywhere and the great thing about them is that they are not only easy to apply but if you plump for something dramatic, they pretty much are a costume in their own right. Newly launched is the Spooky Lashes by Ardell (£5.49 each) : Spider Web is just that, a plastic, intricate design that all but screams Halloween, or there is the super fluttery but somewhat feline Mesmerizing Duo which contains both top and bottom lashes - for a super simple take on cat fancy dress, you could use such lashes and draw on some whiskers, nobody said it has to be complicated to be fun.
There is no time better than Halloween - or the lead up to - to sport a smoky eye, it is fun, dramatic and frankly super flattering, not to mention it teams exceeding well with the aforementioned novelty false eyelashes. If you are on a budget (and really who isn't), you can pick up the MUA Elysium Shadows Eyeshadow Palette (£6): this huge set contains no less than 10 full sized eyeshadows in a range of smoky shades of blue, grey and black - you can use such palette to of course create a smoky eye look or for more intricate Halloween looks such as skeletal/corpse looks to shade and contour the entire face.
So maybe your Halloween costume is fairly low key - or in my case it involves a fancy pair of ghoul themed socks - that doesn't mean you can't have a little fun with your make-up. If you don't have the patience or skills for fiddly false eyelashes and/or a smoky eye, what about a slightly novelty lips shade? I'll be using the 31st as an excuse to finally wear MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer in Iced (£3), a light blue shade that I wouldn't normally sport on a day-to-day basis but perfect for Halloween. For those on the lookout for a black lipstick, have you seen MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer in Potent (£3), a perfectly deep but matte shade or the new MUA Luxe Metallic Liquid Lips in Twinkle (£2) which is both a glossy black but sprinkled with glitter. If you are feeling adventurous, you could always Google some lip art looks and create a mini masterpiece on your lips?
If you can't apply glitter hairspray on Halloween, I'm at a loss to when you can - okay it may not be traditionally spooky nor scary but it is a whole lot of fun, and can really brighten up any form of fancy dress or be a statement in it's own right. For a burst of colour and of course more glitter than you can shake a stick at, I fully recommend Pixi Lott Paint in Pastel Pink Glitter (£3.99) - it not only brightens up any hair style but is a breeze to wash out too.
However you decide to do your make-up, I'm sure we can all agree that a cocktail or two would be more than ideal to mark the occasion of Halloween; be it as a little thank you to yourself for patiently greeting any Trick or Treat-ers or to perhaps whip up at a party? Thebar.com, have a whole array of Autumn and Halloween themed cocktails that you can re-create at home with ease but my personal favourite has to be Berry Crush - a simple but delicious cocktail that requires no more than five ingredients is perfectly seasonal. If you enjoy berry tipples, you might find this quickly becomes your signature cocktail; if you are looking for something a little more "Horror" centric why not try wowing your guests with a Bloody Maria - more fun than frightening but a great cocktail none the less.
