New product launches are great and exciting but I will forever have a special place in my heart for those tried, tested and often under appreciated daily staple products. Those items that you reach for on a daily basis, restock without as much as a second thought and yet don't often rave about them to others? Sound familiar? Of course it does and here are mine...
Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defense SPF 50
For me applying an SPF to my face is as natural as brushing my teeth, I do it automatically and mostly without thinking. It has been drilled into me by so many facialist and skin care specialists that a good SPF is crucial for protecting the skin not only against UVA/UVB rays but also environmental damage which can lead to premature ageing. For the last year or so Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defense SPF 50 has been my go to product, I rather like that it is a light, easy to apply lotion that quickly sinks into my skin doesn't alter any make-up applied on top nor is it greasy. A generally worry for most is that daily SPF can lead to blocked pores, blackheads and blemishes - I can safely say that I have been using this for over a year, daily and it has not encouraged my skin to behave any differently. Yes it is pricey but worth every penny!
Clinique Superdefense SPF20 Daily Defense Moisturiser
Believe it or not I don't actually rely on this product for the SPF value, that is just an added bonus but find it to be one of the best day time facial moisturisers I have tried. It doesn't matter if my skin is dry, dehydrated or oily Clinique Superdefense SPF20 Daily Defense Moisturiser seems to suit all my needs. It gently moisturises my skin ensuring any make-up applied on top doesn't cake or cling to problem areas. As you can most likely imagine it doesn't break my often sensitised skin out nor does it clog pores and the bonus of having this in my routine is that should I forget to apply SPF I know I have a little within my moisturiser. If you live in a city and/or work environment you need this as it has been formulated to protect the skin against dehydration as well as pollutants.
Australian Body Care Tea Tree Oil Skin Wash
Believe it or not I use two body washes in the shower, one for my back/shoulders and one for the rest of my body. It may seem like a lot of unnecessary effort but as my back and shoulders are prone to blemishes it is a step I am prepared to take. The one product I have found that not only reduces Backne (back acne) but also encourages any existing blemishes to heal quicker is Australian Body Care Tea Tree Oil Skin Wash. This body wash of course contains tea tree oil which is a natural antiseptic. It is one of the few body products of this nature that I have come across in which that it does help with problem areas without drying out the skin. No it isn't the best in terms of scent but I'll take a slight medicinal fragrance over a spotty back any day!
Kiehl's Creme de Corps Body Lotion
I have been very open with my disdain for body lotion, I can't be bothered to apply it nor do I have the patience to wait for it sink into my skin. My only exception is Kiehl's Creme de Corps Body Lotion. Why? Well unlike other body lotions this truly nourishes my skin, absorbs almost immediately and is scent free. It doesn't irritate sensitive skin, it soothes and hydrates in one quick step. I honestly doubt any other body lotion will ever come close to this.
Una Brennan Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream
As someone who suffers not only from undereye circles but also Milia I have to be pretty vigilant when it comes to eye care. One product I can wholeheartedly recommend that is both brightening and hydrating yet won't break the bank is Una Brennan Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream. This is a light yet rather moisturising formula that quickly sinks into the skin making it perfect for morning applications before make-up. Yes the concept of this particular eye cream is to banish dark circles which it does over time - around 3 weeks to a month, we all differ. I deem it to be a great all round eye cream and perfectly suited to those in their teens to early twenties who are looking out to start with an eye cream rather than in an anti-ageing formula. However don't get me wrong this is suited to all ages as it hydrates, smooths and soothes all the while helping create a light radiance effect to the eye area making it perfect to perk up tired, morning skin. I have repurchased this over and over in the last year and will continue to do so as it works! Bye bye dark circles.
Indulge me, what product/s do you reach for daily but seldom think to recommend to others?
I love Una Brennan products but this eye cream disappointed me. I have the same under eye issues as you and although it hydrated well and was light for underneath make up it didn't do anything for my dark circles really :( Would love to try the Creme de Corps though! xx

ReplyDeleteThe Lush tea-tree toner! I have used it for years and years, but never really recommend it anymore. Definitely worth a go for a good and reasonably priced toner x
ReplyDeleteDay wear is one of my all time favourite products, I've been using it so long that the smell is so comforting!
ReplyDeleteThat eye cream sounds fab, I love the Una Brennan range (:

I find that most of the Una Brennan range is underrated. I think that Lush skincare and some of the Nip+Fab range are underrated too. Lovely post x

Love this post, I really want to try the Estee Lauder SPF now!
ReplyDeleteMy facial toner, Mario Bedescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion, has been my staple for over a year now. I can definitely see a difference in my skin when I use it or when I skip it, but because it kind of goes in the middle of my routine, I feel like it gets overshadowed by my other products. It's just so gentle and calming though, so I would recommend it to anyone!

I worship the god that is Soap and Glory's Clean On Me, mainly because I'm lazy and it's got body lotion in it, so I get smoothy smooth skin without having to make the effort of actually applying body lotion post shower. My other go to product is probably the Neal's Yard honey and orange scrub, which I must repurchase :)
