I'm prone to allergic reactions, more so in the last year or so and most notably on my face.
As a result I'm more cautious when it comes to skin care - gone are my teenage days (I say that like I'm approaching fifty not my mid twenties) of slapping on anything and hoping for the best. I take more care not only in reading ingredient lists but also ensuring that I have a stash of soothing products close to be me should I react adversely. Cue Mario Badescu Healing and Soothing Mask...
Will this mask solve all your skin care problems? In a word no but it does help my skin when it is itchy, inflamed or sporting a rather fetching cluster of blemishes thanks to a break out. To soothe and calm the skin Mario Badescu Healing and Soothing Mask contains oatmeal which does just that as well as taking care of any itchy skin (you may have been prescribed an oatmeal bath as a youngster when suffering a bout of chicken pox?). The main benefit of this mask is that it quickly takes the redness and the sting out of blemishes which is mainly due to the inclusion of Zinc Oxide (know for its antibacterial and healing properties) and Lemon which does the same as the latter ingredient only naturally as well as cleansing the skin. Unlike other facial masks aimed at blemish prone skin this contains Lanolin for moisture to ensure that your skin is not dehydrated with continuous use.
Mario Badescu Healing and Soothing Mask has a thick and slightly sticky texture that does take some getting used to - it does feel a little like you have smeared Sudocreme all over you face. Despite the some what troublesome texture this does not dry out which I did expect as it behaves like a mud mask in every other aspect. Once applied it does cool and calm the skin and is a pretty enjoyable experience (you must leave it on for up to 20 minutes) and after washed off the skin not only feels more balanced (less oily in areas, same applied for dryness) but blemishes appear calmer and less inflamed. If you have acne prone skin or have a tendency to break out I do recommend trying the Mario Badescu Healing and Soothing Mask as it really calms the skin.
