When rumors of Clinique launching a DD Cream began to circulate around the internet I will be the first to admit that I rolled my eyes and more likely than not cursed the launch of what would seemingly be another repackaged tinted moisturiser. Luckily DD turns out to be a simple abbreviation of an old skin care favourite - Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion. After 6 and a half years in the making Clinique have reformulated one of their first ever launches which has remained the same since 1968. Brave, stupid or over due? I'll let you be the judge of that but so far I can say that I do prefer the newer formula to the original.
So after 45 years you do have to wonder why Clinique would take their best selling and the UK's no.1 moisturising lotion and switch it up with some new added ingredients. It's simple really, our skincare needs and basic skincare know how have changed since then and it only makes sense that skin care products follow suit an reflect such needs. The new additions to the Dramatically Different Lotion are : Hyaluronic Acid which has been included as it is been proven that this ingredient aids the skin when it comes to clinging to moisture. Glycerin to help the skin attract extra hydration, this inclusion is important as it can absorb water from the surrounding air which may be helpful for those in a drier environment i.e air conditioning and lastly Urea purely because this inclusion mimics the function of healthy skin and is a barrier repair product - it prevents the skin from loosing moisture. Essentially the concept behind the revival of Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion is that it is both a moisturising product but also a barrier like lotion to prevent moisture from evaporating from the skin.
You will be pleased to know that although the formula has been overhauled you wouldn't know it to apply. It still feels and smells like the original Dramatically Different lotion but I have found this version to be a little quicker to absorb into the skin which I'm sure most will deem to be a bonus. Other than that in my experience it is the same old yellow lotion that so many adore.
Clinique have stated that this is a suit all moisturiser and that although aimed at drier complexions it will do no harm to oily/normal skin types. In my opinion that is technically true but perhaps not in the long run for myself. Yes I like to slather this on to my face after a day in the sun when my skin is parched but I will be 100% honest in saying that Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion is not for me, although the new formula absorbs much quicker into the skin it still feels a little overwhelming on my skin which is of course rather oily. I think the main problem for me personally is that I don't have a need for this particular product and by that I simply mean that for day wear I prefer a mattifying moisturiser with an added SPF and come night time I prefer something more intense to really replenish my skin more often than not in the form of an oil. That's not at all to say this isn't a great lotion because it is more so if you have dry skin as it will quickly hydrate the surface of the skin, ridding that tight sensation such skin types may suffer from and with continuous use it will improve the overall condition of your skin but oilier types like myself may require something a little lighter.

I had a look at this in boots yesterday, not sure if I'm keen on the ingredients in it! I'm sure I saw mineral oil on there...

I think the lotion is actually meant for drier skins, they have a gel type moisturizer that's for more oily skin types. I'm kind of upset that they just came out with this, because I am only a third of the way through my moisturizer at the moment (I use the original formula) and I'm eager to try this one but I'm trying to be smart with money!!

I have the DD gel moisturiser but just don't feel like it does anything for me really? Clinique skincare seems a bit super harsh on my skin apart from the anti blemish solutions spot treatment gel - thats amazeballs!
ReplyDeleteI tend to find Clinique to be a little hit and miss - They have a few items that I adore, but others that seem to actually make my skin worse.
ReplyDeleteI've used the cream and the gel, and they have worked for me but didn't really do anything amazing, it just felt like a basic moisturiser.
I'll have a little try at the counter and see how this one fairs!

I have never actually tried the old version but I have got a mini sized version of the new one which came in a 3-step set I got a few days ago. I haven't had very long to try it out yet but I do like it so far. I suffer with a really dry nose, cheeks and middle of my forehead and it leaves my skin feeling so smooth and moisturised.

A bit nervous to try it. I love the original DD both lotion and gel. I think they should have just released a new moisturizer instead of changing such a cult favorite x
ReplyDeletei love clinique!
ReplyDeleteLove Clinique in general but for me the original lotion never really seemed to do anything for my skin, but I might give it another go now that they've changed up the formula

My skin is more or less greassy and I've not found the difference with this two formula for the DD Lotion. So, I've testing last year the original formula but in my memories, he had not very a big difference for me !
