I have come to the very clear headed decision that should I want to save up then it only makes sense for my financial well being that I steer clear of the Chanel counter. Well after one last hurrah and what better to splurge on as parting gift than Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder.
Chanel packaging is always super chic and I'm willing to bet one of the few brands we openly flaunt on the train...slightly poser like yes but hey it is Chanel darling! Unlike most Chanel cosmetic items Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder comes presented within a beige compact no doubt as a nod to the "Les Beiges" title, despite not being monochrome it is just as sleek as ever and will no doubt take pride of place on many a dresser!
I was colour matched at the counter to shade No.30 but as my skin is fairly oily and has the habit of oxidising products so I went for a shade lighter which is No.20 and have to say I'm really happy with the colour choice.Okay it is a smidgen lighter than my skin tone but it doesn't add a white cast to my complexion and as a result doesn't turn me deeper or orange over the course of the day. A word of warning about the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder is that they run fairly deep and most look like bronzers rather than pressed powders and I'm not exactly pale.
Despite all the hype from blogs, magazines and friends I can't say I love Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder. For a start it is very perfumed which I do worry in time it may irritate my skin and despite feeling silken on my skin it does very little for me. I don't find it does all that great a job of setting my make-up nor does it keep oil at bay. Chanel claim that Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder (hence the title I guess) gives the skin a healthy glow which is what sold me on the spot but in the end it didn't turn out to be anything other than a finely milled powder. No glow, no nothing, just a run if the mile scented pressed powder. Gutted doesn't begin to cover how I feel. I am unsure if my oily skin is perhaps to blame or if this is perhaps another product that doesn't deserve the hype that surrounds it?

Fantastic post I was thinking about buying this, I won't now!
ReplyDeleteThank you and sorry for putting you off. It really isn't worth the hefty price tag in my opinion so many better powders out there!
DeleteI swatched it instore and yeah, despite the beautiful classy packaging, I was just a little puzzled as to what's this powder is for... cause most of the shades all look DARK! O_O !!
DeleteSo many new powders out there, Hourglass, NARS, Sunday Riley etc... perhaps either just stick with my current one or try out these other babies lol
Thank you for this post!! Defintely reconfirms my suspicion that I don't need this powder! LOL

It's just so beautiful! Shame it doesn't live up to it's looks :( I'll be sticking with my Stay Matte powder!

I find that a lot of drugstore powders are much better than the higher end ones! I do love the Chanel packaging though!

Oh no that's so disappointing for you :(
ReplyDeleteLove the beige packaging though!
Gorgeous packaging, love how honest your review is! Might stick with Mac MSF for now!

Was about to buy this but may have to reconsider! Thank you
ReplyDeleteI was thinking on buying this but thought I'd read some reviews beforehand, such a shame it didn't live up to expectations.

This is why I hate people, not just beauty bloggers, who sneer at cheaper brands. Just because it doesn't cost an arm and leg, doesn't mean it's not a good product! I can't even begin to count how many dupes I've found for brands like Chanel, MAC, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that price doesn't dictate how well a product is going to work. I swatched this in store and thought it felt lovely and light which it does but the healthy glow aspect just doesn't show up on my skin and feels like an utter waste.
DeleteIts a shame you don't like this. I find that mine (also shade no.20) gives me a really heathy glow (which is why I bought it), there might be other powders that do the same thing cheaper but I am happy with Les Beiges. I should probably add that I am quite pale so anything that gives me a healthy glow is going to be a winner! x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it worked for you :) I am still going to try and get some use from it but so far (well for the last fortnight haha) it hasn't blown me away. Maybe my expectations were just too high? x
DeleteThe packaging is beautiful, but I steer clear of their more perfumed products. The Vitalumiere Aqua broke me out due to the perfume! xx

I had a feeling this was going to be just as you have described and so i am glad i walked away...i just find anything mineral-ish based makes my oily skin so shiny, same with anything thats got mica...so the raved about MAC Skin finish mineralize natural and rimmels stay matte = shiny face...what i did get instead and LOVE was MAC select sheer pressed powder .. go for the nc even if your nw as this not only brightens your skin but doesn't go darker or pinker through the day...goodness i went on there , sorry lol x
ReplyDeleteHaha not at all thank you for your suggestion :) I actually have that and MAC Blot Powder and neither really work for me. My favourite is the light loose powder by Smashbox it works wonders on my skin :) x
Deleteis it a setting powder....? x
DeleteThe smashbox one? Yes :) it is this one http://www.smashbox.co.uk/product/6037/22770/Face/Powder/PHOTO-SET-FINISHING-POWDER/index.tmpl
DeleteThanks I use smashbox studio skin foundation and its great for my oily skin looks like ill have to get that powder too lol thanks again xx
DeleteI wanted to get this just because the packaging is so beautiful but Ive seen so many bad reviews on it.

Aww, it's such a shame that you didn't like it!! I think it might be better suited to normal skintypes rather than oily? You're right about the packaging though, it's gorgeous! I really really want thins because of the glow promise as well, but I'm not so sure now.. and I'm really pale, so unless they do a translucent shade I think I'm out :(

I have to agree, I bought it earlier this month and feel like I've wasted my money tbh.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the honest review! I have been uhmming and ahhing about purchasing it as it looks fabulous (and I think i'm very swayed by the amazing packaging!) but this has reassured me not to get it as I think you'd be able to get the same effect with something cheaper x

I think I still want one, simply for that gorgeous packaging!!

I'm so glad there's an honest review of this, after hearing it's heavily perfumed, I don't think I'll be purchasing it, no matter how nice the packaging is!

It's good to hear an honest opinion about a product, I really appreciate that. :) x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest opinion! So many rave reviews about the Les Beiges... and it doesn't even launch here in Singapore until this Friday! It's supposed to be an all-over illuminating powder... but i've always been a Guerlain meteorites gal, so was wondering if I should give this a shot....
