I am not a stranger to Illamasqua blushes in fact I own a few and do truly believe that the formula is faultless
but my recent purchase of the S.O.P.H.I.E shade came with a back story and one that tugged on my heart strings.
Essentially in 2007 20 year-old Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were kicked, stamped on and left unconscious. Why? Because they happened to look a different, how truly vile humans can be. Most tragically Sophie later died from her injuries. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was set up by Sylvia Lancaster and Sophie's mother, in her memory. The foundation works relentlessly to stamp out intolerance and discrimination in society. Illamasqua proudly support the foundation and offer a number of items cosmetic and otherwise to help fund the work of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Like all Illamasqua blushes this comes in the instantly recognisable rounded square, large chunky packaging.
Each blush has an transparent window allowing you to see at a quick glance which shade is which -
particularly helpful if you have a good few of said brand's blushes in your stash.
S.O.P.H.I.E is listed as a golden coral on the Illamasqua website and this is true but to go a little further I would add that it changes to a mid tone bright pink shade once applied to the skin, is warm in tone and somewhat similar to NARS Orgasm and Benefit's Bella Bamba Blushes - both of which are summer staples for myself. Despite being a shimmer based shade the shimmer/glimmer particles are teeny tiny, no gritty
and pose no problems to any skin type. Essentially they simply liven up the shade and add a hint or radiance to the skin.
S.O.P.H.I.E is a light shimmer formulated blush which is finely milled, soft in texture so it picks up
really well on a brush and blends like a dream yet is firm enough to withstand general wear and tear.
It is also extremely light on the skin despite providing high colour pay off.
At the moment I am really enjoying shimmer formulated blushes as they perk up dull winter skin
and unlike other shimmer formulas this does not sink into my enlarged pores and should behave in the same way with fine lines and wrinkles, nor does it cling to any dry areas of skin.
I find this formula to wear around 8/9 hours on my oily skin before signs of wear appear.
As some may know I am a huge MAC and NARS fan when it comes to blushes
but I do feel that Illamasqua may have pipped them to the post as I can not recommend their blushes enough,
even if there is slightly less product!

Very wise choice :)
DeleteThat story is so sad :( lovely that they have brought products out to support the foundation. This blush looks amazing, reminds me very much of NARS Orgasm (from what I've seen online) - which one would you say would be better to buy? I can't decide! xo
ReplyDeleteHeart breaking isn't it :( I would vouch for this over orgasm as it is less glittery and much more pigmented :) x
DeleteWhat a sad story but its great was illamasqua did, i love this shade it does remind me of nars orgasm alot!:)

I couldn't agree more, it has made me love the brand even more :)
Deletewhat a sad story! also, I'm sold as it's got MY name! trying it out real soon haha :) xxx
ReplyDeleteIt really is, I can't wrap my head around it all and hope all that was involved have been brought to justice! Haha if a brand was to ever release a blush or any product called Adrienne I'd be all over it so I'm with you on that!
DeleteI remember listening to a Radio 4 play Black Roses: The Killing of Sophie Lancaster, (with poems written by Simon Armitage) and just, well crying, which I never do. I also felt so incredibly angry that anyone could do this to a human being.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Illamasqua gave some of their profits to her campaign so thank you for highlighting that. I love the one blush of theirs I have so what a perfect excuse to buy another.
Such an heartbreaking loss and like you I was fighting back the tears reading the story. Over being different? I really fail to understand why someone dressing "differently" could upset someone so much that they felt the need to quite literally beat someone to death.
DeleteYou are right such it is such a lovely shade with a very worthy cause/message behind it and thank you so much for your comment :) I really hope you enjoy your new blush as much as I do!
Gorges colour but such a sad story! Really great of Illamasqua for doing that to support the foundation. Such a beautiful colour- so pigmented!

I do admire Illamasqua for supporting the cause but yes such a gutting story :( it really is I can't wait to team it with a bronze smoky eye at the weekend :)
DeleteI watched a a programme about Sophie and her boyfriend before (I think it was about them) it happened because they looked goth-ish? but I had no idea she was the reason behind S.O.P.H.i.E.
ReplyDeleteThe blush is gorgeous.
xo
Such a sad story but massive well done to Illamasqua for supporting such a great cause. The shade is lovely too, I'm not so sure about the sparkles but I need to buy this for the cause if nothing else!

I already have NARS orgasm, so I'd probably get this when that runs out. But knowing the backstory behind the foundation is so important to me, thanks for sharing, I've looked it up for quite a while now and am eager to support such a cause, so I suspect I'll be trying out some blushes and other "S.O.P.H.I.E." items on their website. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can only say... Sophie is absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely colour and it makes me want to buy it even more knowing the story behind this line :( X
ReplyDeleteI have Nars Orgasm but I think this is even nicer in my opinion.
