For all those like myself who do not live in the vicinity of a Selfridges store, let alone London this post may not be for you - unless you enjoy the digital version of window shopping that is. If you do however find yourself blessed with a London postcode, grab your face mask and hot-foot it down to Selfridges, Oxford Street and witness the Ren Clean Skincare Pop Up Shop in person, which runs until October.
Right now Selfridges are doing some wonderful things as part of their Project Earth Commitment which includes the REN Clean Skin Pop Up Shop, featuring wonderfully effective skincare products, all of which are constructed using sustainable and recycled materials. REN are doing some wonderful things for our skin and planet, and as such have pledged to be a zero waste company by 2021 - as such every single REN product will feature packaging that is not only recycled but recyclable too, with many lines offering a reusable/refillable solution too. If that doesn't make you proud to use and recommend REN products, I'm not sure what else will.
Exclusive to the Selfridges Project Earth Commitment x REN Pop Up is the REN limited edition beauty box - which is also in collaboration with Silken Favours too. Inside the utterly stunning marine illustrated box (Silken Favours handiwork, completed with a recycled bow) you will find: three full sized REN skincare products, two mini items and one deluxe sample, beautifully combined with a Silken Favours, Seahorse drawstring wash bag. The box itself will set you back £115 but the contents are worth £153 so that's an appropriate saving of 25%!
Each of the products selected to be within the REN x Selfridges Project Earth Commitment have been selected for their groundbreaking ingredients, technology and/or packaging. Let me quickly run you through the contents are their star qualities:
- REN Ready Steady Glow AHA Tonic; 7 skincare benefits in a sustainable 100% recycled plastic bottle. A wonderful, Vegan toner that is great for exfoliating the skin and creating a radiant complexion.
- REN Overnight Glow Dark Spot Sleeping Cream; a hydrating, night cream that helps to reduce discolouration (including those pesky marks blemishes leave behind) whilst you sleep at night. Again this is Vegan and when bought in full size the cap is constructed from 100% recycled plastic and the jar is completely recyclable too.
- REN Clean Clear Jelly Oil Cleanser; one of my all time favourite cleansers that has been clinically proven to remove SPF, pollution and even waterproof make-up without stripping the skin. The packaging is of course sustainable with the tube being constructed of 50% recycled plastic and the cap 100% recycled materials.
- REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream; this is a world first and the packaging of such wonder cream (more on that in a minute) is your chance to experience REN Infinity Packaging - packaging that has been completely broken down to make something new and should you then recycle said bottle, it will once again join the chain. Pretty amazing and something I hope becomes the norm. As for the cream itself, with all the skin issues such as irritation and chaffing that facial coverings are resulting in, REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream is a wonderful barrier to sooth, calm and moisturise.
- REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF30; zero shine, zero chemical filters, and zero waste thanks to the recycled tube and cap. A great, mattifying facial sunscreen that my oily skin really enjoys, I find this makes a great base for make-up too.
- REN Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Body Wash; a wonderfully relaxing addition to any shower, the mineral rich formula helps to soothe and restore tired muscles (great for after the gym), whilst the recycled packaging that is sourced from discarded plastic bottles does its bit for the planet.
Sadly this is an in-store exclusive to the Oxford Street location but you can purchase all of the items inside separately should you wish. Fingers crossed there will be more REN Beauty Boxes and that they will be more accessible next time around too.
