We live in a time in which appearances are everything and as such so many brands that are instantly deemed "Instagrammable" are criminally overlooked. Now that's not to say the Atlier Cologne Candles are anything other than beautiful because they are not lacking in charm but they have not been created to fit into the cutesy, bubblegum-pink bubble that currently dominates social media. In a way it is refreshing and perfectly suited to Atlier Cologne's branding (the bold blue is instantly identifiable and rather chic) - and dare I say clientele, who care more about luxurious fragrance than they do Instagram likes.
If you are not familiar with Atlier Cologne, each scent (home fragrance or otherwise) has been centred around powerful memories, "a moment in a bottle" if you will and features a little leather accent of some description: a tag on the candles and often a sleeve on fragrances, another testament to the craftsmanship of the brand.
I have dabbled with various Atlier Cologne scents over the years but never fully committed as I am a little heavy handed in terms of application and let's just say the products don't come cheap. However I have found that with the Atlier Cologne Candles I can indulge in the world of luxury fragrance without feeling too guilty as they do seem to last quite some while. This could be due to the sheer volume of each Atlier Cologne candle which come in at a hefty 210g, combined with the finest fragrance oils and great quality wax to produce an incredible scent throw that scents an entire room.
As a side note, if you do purchase a Atlier Cologne Candle, due to the bottle design of this candle I highly recommend purchasing long matches to light it once it starts to burn down, as it can be a little tricky to alight after a little while.
At £55 per candle, you can imagine I was a little discerning when selecting scents to try. In the end I decided it was best not to be too experimental and settled on matching candles to two of my favourite Atlier Cologne's: Orange Positano and Rose London. Yes it is an odd combination on paper but one that works beautifully in person, be that on your skin or flickering away in candle form at home.
Atlier Cologne Orange Positano is a nod to a small Italian village called Positano (of course) and features juicy notes of orange from Brazil, bitter orange from Italy and elemi from the Philippines. It's fresh, uplifting and not at all tart, easily one of my favourite fragrances for summer.
Atlier Cologne Rose London is a loving nod to both London and the national flower of England, it is based around notes of Rose Absolue from Turkey, ginger from China and guaiac wood from Paraguay. Best described as dusky, slightly-smoky-come-earthy and simply delightful any time of the day or year. This is my fail-safe pick and one that I feel could covert even the staunchest hater of rose scents.
With 10 Atlier Cologne candle fragrances to chose from there is something for every mood and taste - next on my list to try is: Tobacco Texas (I imagine it to be deep and sensual) and Vanille Nolita (I love Vanilla and the Nolita area of NYC).
