I'll let you in on a secret, for the last seven years I have bought each and every Diptyque festive launch and more often than not, admired them on my mantelpiece rather than actually putting them to use. It's became a somewhat tradition crossed with a borderline obsession of preserving the pretty candles for future occasions and this year is no different - yes I have accumulated all three new scents, the matching candle carousel and I regret absolutely nothing.
Diptyque's Lucky Charms collection is based around creating wishes for the new year and centred around protection, luck and harmony. Each candle features beautifully detailed and dare I say cute illustrations by Olaf Hajek and I'm told that the colour palette was selected to strengthen the will and might behind each wish. With 2020 just weeks away, I am personally disappointed that more brands haven't created something special to mark the arrival of a new decade. None the less Diptyque have arisen to the challenge and have three beautifully packaged scents, each adorned with cute illustrations of various "lucky charms" to bring in the new year in style.
I've bought enough festive Diptyque candles over the years to tell you that typically the scents don't differentiate all that much; typically there's a pine offering, something floral and something spice based. I rather enjoy that I know what to expect and truly those are the type of fragrances most of us expect at this time of the year for various reasons.
Diptyque Blissful Amber Candle - this beautiful blue (which symbolises wisdom and peacefulness) candle has been curated to invoke feelings of harmony and serenity in the home and beyond. With a gentle yet spice tinged blend of amber, geranium, lavender and soft musk, this is the perfect scent to both warm any room and add an air of relaxation.
Diptyque Lucky Flowers Candle - for those who want to somewhat steer away from traditionally festive scents this Winter, we have the red (symbolises energy) Diptyque Lucky Flowers Candle. A hearty, spice led, blend of rose, clove and aniseed is rich , bright and yet unexpectedly floral with a kick.
Diptyque Protective Pine Candle - what would the festive season be without a subtle nod to the trees we decorate each year and I think Diptyque Protective Pine Candle is the perfect alpine-scented ode. The beautiful green jar has been decorated to symbolises hope and protection, whilst the wintry and altogether crisp scent of Siberian and Balsam pine, cedar, and aromatic notes of basil and sage for the perfect woody yet festive fragrance.
The real star of the show is the super chintzy and hard to resist Diptyque Candle Carousel, which comes in two sizes this time around (one for 70g candles and the other for 190g candles). Each of the golden discs have been etched with a lucky charm illustration, which once combined with the warm glow of a lit candle, not only encourages it to gently twirl in the breeze but it both catches and reflects light. It is a sight to behold in person and makes a wonderful gift for any candle and/or Diptyque lover.
