Jo Malone London English Fields Collection Review

If you ignore the light dusting of snow, gently coating most of the UK, you might just be able to see the first signs of Spring? Yes it has been a long and decidedly hard Winter so I don't think anyone will judge me - or you for that matter - for indulging in a new fragrance or two, to blow away the cobwebs from the colder months. As luck would have it, one of my all time fragrance brands - Jo Malone of course - have just launched five new harvest and field inspired colognes as part of the Jo Malone London English Fields collective, and truly they couldn't be more ideal for the upcoming new season.

As much as I enjoy and of course wear the permanent line of Jo Malone Colognes, the limited edition fragrance launches that greet us every so often have a special place in my heart and maybe not for the most typical reason. I am a sucker for a pretty bottle and typically I find that with the Jo Malone limited edition launches there is a little more creative licence to be had; just look at the pretty array of pastel colours that decks the Jo Malone London English Fields collection, who wouldn't want all five neatly arranged on their dressing table? A lot like the fragrance notes (more on that in a moment) within each Jo Malone London English Field Cologne, the colour palette that dresses each bottle has of course been inspired by British fields and nature to some degree (the bases are dipped in stone!).

The Jo Malone London English Fields collection draws inspiration from the great outdoors, namely golden fields of wheat, barely and rye - the natural colour palette, the gentle aromas and the first glimpse of Spring sunshine. Think white broderie-anglaise dresses, wicker baskets stuffed to the brim with jam sandwiches, well worn picnic blankets and the gentle sounds of a crisp Spring breeze rustling through shafts of wheat and you have the very essence of the five scents that make up the Jo Malone London English Fields range.

Some may suggest that five new fragrances at any one time is overkill but I don't agree, I think as a collective the Jo Malone London English Fields range compliments one and another beautifully (the layer exceptionally well) and more importantly offers choice. My guess is that not many people will purchase all five fragrances, rather they will maybe pick up the select few that appeal to them the most? Which leads me into my foray with the Jo Malone London English Fields line up...

No I don't own all five scents, nor have I been in-store to try the others as of yet but the two that I do own have been in constant rotation since they landed on my doorstep a little over a week ago. First up we have Jo Malone Oat & Cornflower Cologne: a surprisingly intense blue floral with an instantly delectable oat-y twinge that leans slightly nutty. It is oddly delectable, very comforting and warming - perfect for the last of the cold snap. With notes of vivid blue cornflowers, a hint of hazelnut and a sensual but elegant vetiver base - Jo Malone Oat & Cornflower Cologne (£47/30ml) is unlike anything else I have ever tried. For those craving something a little sweeter, may I suggest Jo Malone Poppy & Barley Cologne (£47/30ml): a rich yet zesty, fruity and the perfect combination of sugary sweetness and bright floral notes. Again this fragrance has some unexpected notes (blackcurrant, barley, bran) combined with succulent and robust hints of beautiful blooms such as red poppy and violet.

Nostalgic, modern, quintessentially British and the perfect reminder that brighter days are surely on the way. You need to make at least one of the Jo Malone London English Fields Colognes yours.
