Is lingerie really an outdated Valentine's Day gift? I don't personally think so, a good majority of us won't (or can't for whatever reason) splash out on a pretty (and matching new) underwear set. If the 14th is that one occasion, that you say to heck with practicality and indulge in something ultimately more frilly and fancy, than your typical underpants then so be it. Never underestimate the power of a good bra, a lot like a brilliant red lipstick, it can (and will) instantly boost your confidence, making even the crappiest of Monday's that more bearable. The great thing about underwear is no-one can see it underneath your clothes (well unless you want them to), so you can be as daring or as bold as you want to be, which again is surprisingly empowering. As there is 15% off of all designer lingerie and nightwear at Debenhams, there truly is no time like the present to snap up a set or two.
If you are purchasing some new smalls for a loved one: a, ensure you know their sizes - nothing worse than saggy pants and a too tight bra; b, unless you know they wear thongs, skip straight to briefs. Trust me on this one.
In my humble opinion, everyone should own at least one "fancy" set of black underwear: it's classic, sexy and frankly is suitable for just about every occasion. Now I don't know about you but I'm not one to sacrifice comfort for a racy new bra. Nope. Not going to happen but combing both style, seductiveness and opulence is the Reger by Janet Reger Black diamanté 'Ella Rose' underwired, non-padded balcony bra (£22.10). Not only is this a classic design with a twist (the diamanté details are Swarovski as a heads up) but it is a great way to embrace the current, sheer and lace bra trend without forgoing support. This particular line offers both a thong (£12.75) and Brazilian knickers (£12.75) so there is something for most tastes and preferences. This is the very set that I treated myself to for Valentine's Day; I've been a little down in the dumps (is the February blues a real thing?) and wanted a little pick me up to make myself feel special, without going down the route of wilted roses, or yet another candle.
Speaking of trying something new, if underwear isn't quite what you had in mind, what about trying on a different than the norm fragrance for size? The beauty of perfume, cologne and aftershave is that you won't be bogged down with remembering sizes, favourite cuts etc, you just have to let your nose lead the way.
At just £47.25 the Mugler - 'Aura Mugler' gift set is a complete snip, not only does it come beautifully presented with its own gift box (saving you time and more money) but it contains two bottles of fragrance: a refillable 50ml bottle for day-to-day use and a dinky 5ml bottle for stashing in your handbag. In my opinion the dazzling, heart shaped, emerald bottle is a true thing of beauty - it is sleek, modern and yet has a touch of old school glamour; coincidentally that's exactly how I'd describe the scent of Mugler Aura too. Aura is sensual, yet fresh with plenty of green notes and a magnetic Vanilla base - anyone would be delighted to experience, let alone wear this. I can not wait to greet my Mum with this duo on the 14th, she never, ever treats herself to fragrance and I know it will make her day - who says Valentine's Day can't be extended to family members too?
There's also 15% off selected fragrances and beauty products for the big day, should you have something more particular in mind. I wouldn't mind waking up to a bottle of Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum (hint hint).
What about you? What are you hoping to receive on Valentine's Day?
