I had every intention of side stepping the limited edition Diptyque Holiday 3 Candle Gift Set in favour of the truly breathtaking and intricate Diptyque Constellation Carousel, but as it is sold out everywhere, it wasn't meant to be. If you do manage to track one down, snap it up, there and then! It is even prettier in person and adds a little extra ambience to any candle it fits (most small votives but you didn't hear that from me). Whilst pouting about said chintzy item in the Diptyque boutique, I decided to test the three new scents for the festive season and before someone could talk sense into me, I quickly bought all three new candles. To me, from me.
Yes I say it with every just about every festive Diptyque purchase I make but I promise in that moment I truly mean it - Diptyque Holiday 2017 Collection may just be my favourite edition yet. The beautiful, constellation inspired packaging and stories behind each scent, initially drew me in but the slightly gentler spin on traditional festive fragrances, is what allowed me to hand over my debit card that little more willingly.
As much as I adore the Holiday season, I've yet to be truly won over by scents of any type that are heavy on pine, cinnamon or spice in general; I find a little goes a long way and that is not a rule so to speak that too many home fragrance brands heed. The result is stuffy, over powering and often outdated scents that are seldom enjoyed, that is why I do find myself spending a little more than I care to admit in Diptyque each Winter as they are refined and don't seem out of place in any sense once the festivities of the 25th have quickly passed.
With three fragrances to pick from, I am pretty confident in stating that there is something for most preferences.
For those looking for a hint of pine, look no further than Diptyque Unicorn Frosted Forest Candle (£24-£48); with hints of Fir needles, Hinoki wood and mint, it is like bringing the crisp, frost-bitten aromas from outside, inside to the comfort of your own home. This is a great alternative to a real Christmas tree and far less messy too.
Then there's the warming but zesty aroma of Diptyque Dragon Fiery Orange Candle (£24-£48), which has captured all the elements of curling up beside a roaring fireplace with a glass of something warming, thanks to its clever use of Blood Orange, Smokey Wood and cloves notes. It's festively cheery, it has a slight trail of spice and yet it is never overbearing.
Lastly there is the almost smokey, Diptyque Phoenix Incense Tears Candle (£24-£48), this is the heaviest scent of the trio, that in my mind is almost reminiscent of Church on Christmas Eve, complete with crunchy snow on the ground. It's sharp yet seasonally appropriate and beautifully captures the Winter chill in the air with notes of Incense, Myrrh and just a slight dash of Cinnamon. If there is any fragrance that will leave you feeling nostalgic it is this.
Or if you prefer something more permanent, there is also the Diptyque Winter Set of 5 Mini Candles (£60): five dinky yet delightful votive candles all of which have rich, warming, Winter appropriate fragrances, great for sampling or to treat a devoted Diptyque fan this festive season.
I'll be forever heartbroken if Diptyque don't make the Diptyque Constellation Carousel permanent or at least re-stock - until then, you can shop the entire collection here - link.
