Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder Review Swatch Swatches

I find taming my eyebrows to be the most difficult of beauty tasks - with mastering liquid eyeliner coming in a close second - as much as I admire the trend of strong brows, such as those often sported on Instagram, it isn't a look that I personally can pull off. I've often said that if a product came along that gave me natural-yet-defined brows, I'd most likely be a more than loyal customer, well I may just have found the answer in Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder! As the name suggests it is easy to apply and wear, and it comes in numerous shades so there is something for everyone.

As it has been a while since I last wrote a post in regards to Benefit beauty products, I think it is only fair to mention that I am absolutely enjoying their recent face lift in regards to their branding - the slick silver re-packaging of their brow products has not gone unnoticed. To tie in with the already extensive range of Benefit brow items, the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder is of course also presented within a shiny, silver compact - it almost looks like a drawer from an armour dresser and as such has a very boudoir vibe. Inside each Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder you will find a perfectly arched shaped powder, that graduates from light to dark, a dual ended brush, a mirror and of course a step by step guide - all you could possible need and more to create natural yet defined brows.

It is not often I say this but do take the time to read the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder Tips and tricks booklet contained within the kit; if I had not bothered to flick through it, I would never have known that the brush contained a concealed spoolie, let alone used the powders correctly.

As you may have gathered the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder has been designed to deliver an ombre style brow - one that is lighter at the start, graduating to a deeper tone towards the tail. The beauty of the Foolproof brow kits, is that they take the fuss out of re-creating what is set to be the next big trend in eyebrow application (Benefit are forever one step ahead), each compact contains two coordinating brow shades and with three colourways to select from: light, medium and deep - so there is no guess work on your part. I have the shade deep which features two, cool toned, deep brown powders, with the darker shade being almost-black in colour - ideal for most dark brunettes.

To use the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder, you simply sweep the lightest of the two shades within the kit from the start of the brow, to roughly the very beginning of your arch, next you gently blend in the darker shade from this point to the end of the brow - I promise it is far easier in practise. This is of course a mere guideline, I recommend playing around with the powders and seeing what best suits your needs - there are no rules, heck you can use each shade individually if you wished. I also found that the sponge applicator/brush that comes with the Foolproof kit can be a little cumbersome to use and can garner a fairly intense result; that's not to say that in the right hands, or in a pinch it is not useful but once I switched it out for a traditional, angled, brow brush I found the results to be far more to my taste.

So why the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder or more importantly why should I tempt you to try creating a graduated brow in general? Well despite my initial reservations, it is beyond flattering for all brow shapes and as mentioned fairly straight forward. This is one of the few brow techniques that I have tried out, that doesn't require a lot of skill or patience to garner great results. I also personally recommend this method, if like myself you have fairly sparse and thin brows; it helps create the illusion of a thicker and altogether groomed brow but without ever looking block-y or painted on. Oh and the best part? It takes mere seconds to apply, from start to finish.

Swatches: left to right - lightest shade, darkest shade and then a combination of the two shades so you can see just how subtle the combination is.

The more I use brow powders, the more convinced I am that they are the way forward for my sparse brows: they blend far easier than a waxy pencil, they fuse more naturally with what little brow hair I have, and in the case of the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder they are long wearing too. Hopefully from the above swatches, you can determine just how pigmented each shade is, and as there is next to no fall out, if used with a firm brush you can easily mimic natural looking hair strokes, as well as creating the ombre-style brow that this kit was intended for.

Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder is innovative, easy and quick to use, long wearing and lasting and belongs in every make-up bag.
