The New Burt's Bees Lipsticks

Expect to see and hear a lot about the new Burt's Bees Lipsticks in the coming days, weeks and months - all for good reason, I hasten to add. It's been a long time since I have been excited to share a non-matte lipstick launch; admit it that's all you wear too but today that might change.

In my opinion - humble or not - Burt's Bees have managed the all but impossible in making their plastic lipstick casings to appear luxurious: both in design and feel. Fun fact, unlike other lipsticks out there the Burt's Bee range does not include a magnet closure, sure the snapping action is satisfying but by forgoing such feature the packaging is therefore sustainable and recyclable - clever huh! If that is not enough all ink used on any Burt's Bees product is vegetable based to ensure less chemicals are used and all packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible. I do want to quickly add that the new Burt's Bees Lipstick packaging is light and despite being plastic based it doesn't feel overly cheap and is wonderfully secure which is really all I care about when rolling around at the bottom of my bag.

Initially I was both wowed and taken by the vast shade range of the Burts Bees Lipsticks (more on that in a moment) but really they are impressive where it well and truly matters - the formulation. If dry lips be it due to natural occurrence or products are ever a problem, this may be the lipstick for you as truly I have yet to find another lipstick that is nearly as hydrating. On the lips the Burts Bees Lipsticks feel all but weightless, they glide on with ease, never clinging to any dried out or chapped areas and almost have a gel-like texture and with all the moisture of a lip balm. Each of the new lipsticks contains naturally moisturising ingredients such as Beeswax, Moringa Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, and Vitamin E so that you get continuous hydration for no less than 8 hours per wear - how they manage to do this while offering a satin finish, I'll never know.

As mentioned above, the shade range is impressive - 18 colour options to be exact, ranging in bold reds, electric and muted pinks and of course plenty of nude hues too. As someone who has yet to find the confidence to really wear bright lip shades, the delightful array of nude lipsticks within the line really caught my attention. I don't have all 18 shades to share swatches of - I will attempt to purchase the other 14 in the coming weeks - but the four that I do own, have quickly become daily essentials. I love how they look, feel and wear - I also rather enjoy that they are cruelty free and 100% natural.

Burts Bee Lipstick in shade 500 Nile Nude - a muted, yellow based pink nude (there is very little brown leaning) that almost veers peachy once applied. I liken this a little to MAC's Shy Girl lipstick in terms of colour.

Burts Bee Lipstick in shade 501 Blush Basin - my all time favourite: a mid-toned pink nude that is neutral in tone and does veer slightly brown. If you are a fan of MAC Velvet Teddy this is one that I think you would also enjoy.

Burts Bee Lipstick in shade 502 Suede Splash - a mid toned, true brown nude; a great neutral shade for all complexions. If I had to (and I don't) compare this to any MAC shade, I'd say it is somewhat similar to MAC Whirl - not identical by any means but in the same type of colour bracket.

Burts Bee Lipstick in shade 513 Doused Rose - truthfully, I haven't got too much wear out of this shade as I am convinced that I don't suit pink lipstick. If you have more confidence than I do, and perhaps enjoy dusky yet well pigmented, mid-tone pink shades, this is one for you.

We may only be in March but over the last few months I have tried a good few new lipstick launches and I can truly say none come as close as the Burts Bee Lipsticks - they have more than raised the bar.
