Two things I know to be true about my skin: it is overly oily and acne prone, skipping the priming stage when it comes to make-up application is simply not an option. However I have noticed over the last few years that some - and I do say some - primers are heavy in texture, silicone laden and as such further irritate my skin but when you have a super oily complexion you don't really have too many options ; forgo priming and all but let the make-up slide off your face, or risk skin irritation with a primer not really suited to your needs? Well hopefully this Summer will be different with the launch of the Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum - a budget two in one solution that is a little different from your run of the mill, everyday primer.
Admittedly I do deem Witch to be a teenage targeted brand, one that I would rush to stock up on a few years ago in the hope that the mini volcanoes on my face would disappear after one quick application. Teenage optimism can you beat it? I may not be quite as happy go lucky as I once was but I do love a bargain - even if said beauty find comes in bold turquoise packaging. No you won't display your Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum with the same pride you reserve for your latest Chanel purchase but you may find that the nifty, pump bottle is used with more frequency - not to mention the style means it is fuss and mess free and ideal for everyday use.
As the name suggests Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum is a hybrid product - a skincare meets make-up concoction that aims to not only prime the complexion but also control oil production, aid the healing process of blemishes, and prevent new blemishes from forming in the first place. Much like all of the Witch skincare products, Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum does of course contain skin clearing Witch Hazel which when used regularly it will calm and soothe the skin, as well as promoting a clearer complexion. I do however recommend that when using any Witch Hazel product that you follow up with a high SPF for day wear, as such ingredient can promote sun sensitivity which is one of the last things you want.
Yes the skin clearing claims are great but what is really wonderful about Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum is the texture - the soft, silken, serum like consistency instantly soothes and hydrates the skin without irritation nor overwhelming oily-come-blemish prone complexions. In my opinion it almost feels like you are applying a lightweight, cooling gel that quickly absorbs and oddly does not have a typically, strong witch hazel scent. At the moment I can't really vouch that Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum has cleared up my skin as I'm having a fairly good skin spell - however I do wonder if this is partly down to the inclusion of this primer within my routine? What I can say with certainty is that this is one of the most comfortable to wear priming products I own and have used in a long time - it does not clog the pores, it doesn't feel silicone based (and as such it does not blur imperfections) and yet it firmly keeps oil at bay and prolongs make-up wear beautifully.
If you are dreading the onset of oily skin this Summer, Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum could be the magic solution you have been waiting for.
Witch Daily Primer and Clearing Serum currently £4.65/30ml (usually via Superdrug £6.99) - link.

I've avoided Witch since a bad experience as a teen but after hearing so many great things, I think it's time I give them another shot.

Just like Fran i've avoided Witch as I had a bad experience with it when I was younger, but in the past few months i've been hearing wonderful things about their products so maybe it's time for a second chance. I never wear primer as I hate the feeling and it breaks me out, so fingers crossed this one will be different.

Well this sounds like a high street winner! Have you tried Jouer's anti blemish primer? This sounds like a much more affordable version!

I used to love Witch's spot treatment gel when I was younger! I still find myself reaching for it now if my skin decides to have a moment and I swear it's the only spot treatment that actually felt like it was doing something (and I tried a fair few)! I'll have to keep an eye out for this as primer is a big part of my makeup routine too! Thank you for the recommendation! x
