My favourite ever, and I mean ever facial sunscreen is of course Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen - that stance is not changing. As it is fairly tricky to source within the UK unless you go down the eBay or Amazon route - which I know not everyone will be keen on doing. Worry not, I have found an equally purse friendly alternative. A cheap yet cheerful facial sunscreen you can purchase via Superdrug for a mere £3.49, let me introduce you to Superdrug Soliat Face Fluid.
Typically speaking facial sunscreens are a little more pricey than those you slap on your limbs, this is because a little more care and consideration must go into the ingredients. The facial area is more prone to breakouts, blocked pores and general sensitivity than most of our bodies, as such skincare as a genre tends to be a little more gentle. When purchasing a facial SPF I look for two things UVA and UVB protection (to shield from sun damage and premature ageing) and if it is non-condemic (formulated to ensure the pores are not blocked) - there is no point in only shielding the skin from type of UV ray, both are equally damaging and a product that results in breakouts is also a no-no. Luckily Superdrug Soliat Face Fluid is both and of course rather affordable, so affordable that I use it both on my hands and face daily.
Please don't be put off by the creamy texture of Superdrug Soliat Face Fluid, yes it is moisturising and can take a little while to absorb but if you allow five extra minutes before applying your make-up, there is no real issue. Superdrug Soliat Face Fluid won't alter the appearance nor finish of make-up and if you plan on wearing this as solo product it won't leave the skin greasy nor overly shiny. Yes it is hydrating and suitable for drier complexions but not to the extent oilier complexions need to worry, it is also suitable for acne prone skin types too. As I said, the key to application is applying and giving the product 5 or so minutes to fully absorb and then going about your regular routine.
Superdrug Soliat Face Fluid comes in two protection factors: SPF 30 and SPF 50, typically I purchase SPF 50 but my local store only had the SPF 30 option available last visit, however you can find both options online. I should also mention that as with all Superdrug own brand products, this has not been tested on animals and is cruelty free!

I always apply an SPF under my makeup in the summer months, at the moment I have the St Tropez one. I've always been a fan of Superdrug Solait though so I'll definitely be checking this out this summer x

I love my Clinique one. Love sunscreens that doesn't make the face look like a melting soap in heat or water!

Thanks for recommending Solait, I'm currently using Sun Bum's SPF 30 because I live in L.A it's non-comedogenic and paraben free so works so well as a facial moisturiser. I would highly recommend it!

Great post and certainly worth a try. I have found my everyday holy grail SPF in the form of Heliocare 360 SPF50 - the oil free formula. This stuff is amazing it sinks into the skin, leaving no sticky feeling behind and foundation sits beautifully over it. It gives your face the ultimate protection from environmental damage from UVA and UVB rays. I have reviewed it in full on my blog: ladylivblog.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a bargain price! It's so difficult to find a good facial SPF that works well with makeup etc and finding budget ones is even harder x
