Lush Halloween 2015

Happy Halloween! Yes I am a little late on jotting down my thought about Lush's Halloween collection, seeing as Halloween is now today but as most items will still be in store up until at least tomorrow and as the scents are fairly Autumnal (yes I despise the term as much as I loathe Pumpkin Spice), I thought better late than never?

Lush Halloween 2015

Lush Halloween 2015 may be fairly small in size but it sure is mighty in impact; from Lush Sparkly Pumpkins to the return of firm fan favourite Lush Lord of Misrule (in two forms no less) and a wibbly, wobbly bat shaped shower jelly, there is something for everyone. Forget scaring the local kids (just me?) and draw yourself a deep relaxing bath and munch away, on the Halloween candy that you were meant to share with the trick or treaters (again, just me?). I feel now would be the perfect time to manically laugh?

Lush Halloween 2015

Technically Autumn isn't over until December the 21st (yes I Googled it), so you can enjoy all things pumpkin related for another few weeks (I reached peak pumpkin a few days ago after stumbling upon pumpkin flavoured gum, yes really). With that in mind you may want to stock up and savour a few Lush Sparkly Pumpkins (£3.65 each) - a pumpkin shaped, glittery, citrus scented bubble bar that creates a frothy, uplifting and skin soothing bath. As you may have noticed, this particular bath treat draws inspiration from Cinderella rather than Halloween, and we both know a few people will loose a shoe tonight due to one too many (we've all been there).

Lush Halloween 2015
Lush Halloween 2015

Other relaunches include Lush Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb (£3.95 each) which is a spicy, herbal yet punchy scented explosion of colour. Simply add to your bath water and marvel in the wine coloured water and dodge the popping candy getting lodged in certain places. If that sounds a little hazardous or perhaps you would prefer a more multi-use product, the good news is that Lush Lord of Misrule is available for a limited time only in shower gel form. If you can't get enough of the patchouli based scent now you can bathe, scrub and even treat your tresses to the rich aroma of Lord of Misrule Shower Gel (£4.95).

Lastly we have Lush Nightwing Shower Jelly (£3.95), which may not appear all that impressive in photos (ask yourself, when does jelly ever look all that great - other than in a bowl with ice cream and sprinkles?) but trust me when I say this little guy smells incredible. A zesty, sharp lime scented semi-solid shower gel that gently lathers up to thoroughly cleanse the skin. Great for kids and grown up's alike.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a date with a bowl of mini Snickers and Hocus Pocus. Have a good night whatever you decide to do.

5 Luxury Bath and Body Brands to Try

The Autumn and Winter seasons tend to be when I am most tempted to run a deep, bubble bath, dig out all those expensive candles I've been stashing away for a rainy day and take a few moments to fully relax and unwind. I believe (when budget allows of course - pay those bills and fill that fridge) that every now and then, we all deserve a little treat; a product more indulgent than your everyday shower gel or bubble bath. If you are looking to splurge any time soon here are "five expensive yet worth every penny" brands to book mark or aim to try in the future...

5 Luxury Bath and Body Brands to Try

Jo Malone
Jo Malone is perhaps best known for their incredible colognes and candles, yes Jo Malone do fragrance exceptionally well but don't overlook their bath and body range. I have tried several Jo Malone bath and body treats and have yet to be disappointed; from luxurious, deeply cleansing oils to indulgent whipped body moisturisers to high performance body scrubs - there is nothing this brand can not conquer. As you may have hoped the entire collection of bath and body ranges are scented with the brand's best loved fragrances (great for fragrance layering). If I could recommend two products to try it would be: Jo Malone Shower Oil and Jo Malone Bath Oil - choosing the scent is the tricky part as they are all truly delightful.

Rituals
Luxury doesn't always equate to a hefty price tag, one of the most indulgent products within my shower has to be my collection of Rituals Shower Foams. Much like Jo Malone et al Rituals offer several great fragrances, many of which rely on aromatherapy techniques to soothe, calm and boost your mood. As you'd expect from a shower cleanser of any type this of course leaves the skin squeaky clean and due to the foam texture it doubles up as a protective barrier for shaving your legs. If showering products aren't quite your thing, rest assure that Rituals also offer wonderful body creams, shower oils and much, much more - as a side note their Scared Fire candle is a Winter/Festive must have.

5 Luxury Bath and Body Brands to Try

Molton Brown
Another brand in which I could wax lyrical about their delightful shower gels, rather I am going to point you in the direction of their intensive yet gentle body scrubs (and then patiently wait for my thank you note in the post ha!). Much like the other brands mentioned above the fragrances are utterly divine and may I say a little more unusual than your typical bath and body ranges. If you are ever in need of a luxurious pick me up this is the brand to try. I also find that Molton Brown items go down well as gifts for both men and women

Aromatherapy Associates
One word - bath oils, if you have yet to sample an Aromatherapy Associates bath oil, I hate to say it but you are missing out. They are unbeatable. As the name would suggest, the brand specialise in blending aromatherapy based scents to enhance various states of mind, relax, soothe and some instances de-congest. The thick oil, gently softens the water and your skin, fills the room with an enticing aroma. In my opinion this is the last word in luxurious bathing and come the depths of Winter you will be glad you splurged on a bottle of bath oil...trust me.

Origins
Perhaps a sneaky addition onto the list and a brand you most likely associate with skin care? As stellar as Origins facial masks may be, I also have a soft spot for the brands Ginger Collection - namely, the hard working body scrub. The fragrance is incredible and perfect for all seasons. Another product that Origins do exceptionally well is body washes- you wouldn't expect anything less if you have ever experienced one of their cleansers. At the moment I am using the yet to be launched Origins Salt Suds Sea Body Wash which blends sea salt and the uplifting fragrance of mint, for an invigorating wake up call daily. One word - heavenly.

What is your go to luxury brand?

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts Review

In a matter of days Jo Malone will launch their utterly beautiful and mostly limited edition Christmas collection. Yes I would absolutely love to own the Jo Malone Deluxe Roasted Chestnut Candle but at £120 that is but a dream, equally indulgent yet more affordable is the Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts, which cost £30 for three sachets. I can't think of a more beautiful addition to any warm bath this coming Winter.

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts Review

As you can see the Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts not only come presented within individual sachets but also a house shaped box, that is of course a nod to the iconic Jo Malone Town House. The idea is that not only does it look cute but should you chose to purchase the Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts as a gift for someone else you can forgo wrapping the gift - clever huh? Yes each sachet of the Jo Malone Bath Salts are intended for individual use but in my opinion you could easily half each portion and stretch the product a little further.

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts Review

If you are familiar with bath salts you will know that they don't froth nor foam, rather they somewhat soften the water and of course fragrance the water. Yes bath salts are an old school concept but sometimes simplicity is key and with a scent as intoxicating as Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia trust me soften, scented water is enough. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia is the perfect combination of fruity come floral without added sophistication - I find it to be an uplifting yet comforting scent that should appeal to most.

Sadly the Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Bath Salts are limited edition - I am hoping and crossing everything that they may just become permanent after the festivities have passed but for now that is but a dream. Get them while you can and thank me later!

Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB

Growing up within the 00's I can recall very clearly the Rimmel Sun Shimmer trend; the then infamous rub on, wash off self tanner that was decidedly orange and prone to streaking or worse blotting off should it rain. After years of shunning the formulation, I can happily say that I am now having a loved in with the newly reformulation texture and colour. If you enjoy a self tanner that looks natural, all with minimal commitment, then look no further than Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB Wash Off Instant Colour. I will happily go on record saying that the newer formula is a beauty classic or at the very least one in the making.

Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB

Much like when I was younger I do not use the shimmer version of Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB, rather I reach for the matte version and in the shade medium. The best way I can think to describe the texture of Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB is as a gel come cream hybrid - there is the cooling, easy to apply and blend gel aspect, combined with the somewhat nourishing, smoothing and perfecting qualities of a cream. Unlike a typical self tanner the Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB aims to not just tint the skin but also as mentioned perfect. It gently blurs any minor skin imperfections such as visible veins, stretch marks and perhaps redness too? I would liken the results a little to that of the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, the main difference is that this can be applied all over the body.

Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB

Not only has the texture and overall formulation of Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB been improved but the colour too. I can't comment on the shade light matte as I've yet to try it, I can however vouch that Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB in Medium Matte is a mid toned, golden brown that has a natural olive undertone opposed to any hint of orange. It creates a natural sun kissed glow that is perfect for pepping up any light to medium complexion as well as evening out the skin tone. I have been known to use Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB in the past to disguise any awkward tan lines as well as creating less than pasty pins for a night on the tiles.

To apply I can not recommend using a self tanning mitt enough, work from the bottom of your body up and use large sweeping, come circular movements for a flawless finish. Unlike in the past Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB will stay put until you wash it off, gone are the days of worrying about rain or sweat!

If you have yet to try Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan BB or perhaps recall it from a few years ago, faults and all, it is time to discover/re-discover the British self tanning staple.

If you have spent any time in beauty halls or even your local chemist such as Boots or Superdrug, you will have noticed that palettes are back and in a big way. Lining the stands is a whole onslaught of new and larger palettes; a product form that unless it contains powder based cosmetics, I often feel is best left alone due to the almost dated approach. Hear me out...

As a beauty blogger I am open to most cosmetic offerings and procedures for that matter, we all want to look and feel our best so who am I to count anything out? My gripe with palettes (again other than powder) is not only long standing but also well documented. Think about it; blush, eyeshadow are products you more than likely apply at home and seldom touch up - if you do I'd imagine most would rather cart around a single pan of product, opposed to a bulky palette? Poured wells of lipstick and concealer may work well for make-up artists but for the average user, they are more hassle than they are worth (there is of course exceptions to every rule). Who has time to fish around their bag, not only for a lip palette but also a lip brush - not me. A standard lipstick is just so much more convenient.

Palettes We Use, Palettes We Love, Palettes We Loathe

Convenience aside, the average high street, mixed palette is normally very much a case of hit and miss. Don't get me started on eyeshadow, cream blush and lipstick combination palettes. Typically in such instances, the eyeshadows will be the best of a bad bunch and the cream products will be overly oily and a nightmare to apply - I do say typically as I am sure there is a great, budget friendly mixed palette out there, waiting to blow me out of the water. Then there's also the problem of the eyeshadow fall out collecting into the cream products - a nightmare waiting to happen.

For now I'm happy with blush and eyeshadow palettes, even then I long for more customisable options (if NARS launch one more blush palette featuring Orgasm and Laguna, I'll scream). I guess when it comes to palettes it is different strokes for different folks. Where do you weigh in? And if you can point me in the direction of a great, high street mixed palette, I'm all ears and waiting to be converted.

Lush Layer Cake Soap Review

Bare with me, I flew home yesterday and for once in my life I am severely jet lagged. I have no idea what this has to do with soap but I felt the need to share...

Soap may not be the most interesting of beauty products but it must do well, if not surely brands such as Lush would scrap it entirely? I rather enjoy a good slab of soap and like to purchase pretty hand soaps for my bathroom - typically I use them to wash my hands but every now and then I stumble across a great formulation and/or fragrance and use it in place of shower gel. With the current UK weather being dismal at best, I have found myself searching for uplifting and fruity scents, and fitting the bill perfectly is Lush Layer Cake Soap.

Unlike other Lush soaps, Lush Layer Cake Soap is constructed in layers of fragrance (hence the name) and as such, the way it is cut will alter the overall scent. Rest assure that it will smell wonderful regardless but if there is a particular scent you are found of, you may want to make that known to the sales assistant. Speaking of the layers the scents are as follows: raspberry, blueberry, wild grape, pineapple and orange - all of which are constructed from real fruit juices. I personally find that the overall fragrance is reminiscent of fruit juice cocktails and of course Summers spent on a tropical beach.

I will admit that this is not the most moisturising of formulations (it is Vegan friendly though) and as such I do have to follow up with an intense body or hand lotion after each use. It does however produce, a fruity and soft foam come froth when in use that deeply cleanses with ease. Would or do I use it daily? No but it is a great, brightening addition to any bathroom and a cheap, cheerful way to inject a little fruity fun into any cleansing routine.

Make Your Own Sea Salt Body Scrub

On a whim I bought a huge bag of sea salt, I have no real idea why either but here we are. In a bid to use the salt and add more natural based products to my routine, I have whipped up a simple, albeit basic sea salt body scrub. Much like last week's sea salt hair mist this only contains three ingredients and again they are all completely natural. The beauty of this scrub is that you can alter the method to suit your needs and change the essential oil/s to treat various skin conditions, needs and ailments.

Make Your Own Sea Salt Body Scrub

What you will need:
A jar or tub to hold the scrub once made.
One cup of sea salt
Approx 5 tablespoons of natural oil (olive, coconut or almond oil)
A few drops of an essential oil of your choice

Method:
1, Should the natural oil of your choice be in solid form you will have to gently melt. I do this using a pot and the stove, that way I can gently warm the coconut oil without over doing it - so easily done in a microwave. If the oil is already in liquid form skip to step 2.
2, Combine the oil, salt and essential oil in a container and gently stir.
3, Allow to cool (if needed) and then use as you would any other body scrub. I must stress that as this is a fairly abrasive scrub it is best to use on damp skin, opposed to dry. If you do find the natural scrub to be a little too harsh you can always and a little more coconut (or your chosen oil) to the mix.

As mentioned above you can select the essential oil to suit your skins needs (or skip if you have sensitised skin). For blemish prone skin, a great addition is Tea Tree or Witch Hazel as they are natural astringents. To help de-congest you might want to try Eucalyptus. To calm the senses you might want to reach for Lavender and Chamomile oils - a great pre-bed treatment and for those concerned with scarring, a great addition to any scrub is a few drops of carrot seed oil which may promote skin rejuvenation.

When you think of Liz Earle I imagine your instant association is with skin care? Don't get me wrong Liz Earle do wonderful skin care products, some of which I do deem to be staples but often overlooked are the beautiful fragrances that the brand offers. Just in time for the chilly Autumn and Winter seasons is the launch of three, wonderfully fragrant candles - you'd be forgiven for collecting all three. If you enjoy warm, almost spicy fragrances with a delicate edge I recommend trying out the newly launched Liz Earle Damask Rose & Pink Pepper Botanical Candle.

In a simple but weighted, frosted glass jar nestles a blend of richly scented,100% natural wax - it burns clean, which is great for your walls and lungs. The packaging may not be the most elaborate but it will slot nicely into any room and suit all interior tastes; rather Liz Earle Damask Rose & Pink Pepper Botanical Candle let's the fragrance do the talking. A beautiful authentic rose scent that is not at all powdery and thanks to the ever so slight spicy kick it helps create a warm aroma, even on the coldest of evenings. The Amber note only intensifies the warmth of the scent and prevents it from being overly floral based.

Inspired by sun soaked days and romantic nights, Liz Earle Damask Rose & Pink Pepper Botanical Candle features notes of pink pepper, Amber and Turkish Rose. In true Liz Earle style the fragrance is created using essential oils for a true sense of ambience and luxury. As someone who has tried a lot of candles over the years let me tell you the essential oils make all the difference, not only do they help to calm the sense and aid relaxation but my goodness are they strong. Forgot filling a room with the rich, floral explosion that is Liz Earle Damask Rose & Pink Pepper Botanical Candle, this little jar of scented wax will fragrance your entire home. It is one of the candles in which I can burn for a few hours in the evening and still notice the lingering spice based rose fragrance the next day. Divine.

Brow Confessions

I remember when everyone either over plucked their eyebrows or left them au natural. Chances are if you are a 90's baby or kid you have the same memories? When I was in high school no-one really bothered with their eyebrows, there was no obsession with waxing or tinting, a simpler time if you will, a period in which me and my brows where happy. Now it's all anyone can talk about and it seems if your brows ain't right, you ain't right. Well I'm not entirely sure about that...

Yes great brows frame the face, I'll openly admit that I will admire a great set of brows on a man or woman but a lot like full lips, great bone structure etc it does often feel like you are either naturally blessed or not in such department. As someone with naturally dark blonde hair my brows much like my eyelashes are almost non-existent, sure I could tint them but I personally think it looks ridiculous. They look heavy, out of place - regardless if someone skilled does them or not. I'd go as far as saying I look better without filled brows as I do with -maybe it is a confidence issue or an acquired taste? I often wonder if I am the only one who feels this way in regards to brow grooming?

For the record I do fill my brows most days, more often than not with a pencil but I can't say I'm overly fussed should I forget (you'd be surprised at what often slips my mind) and if I am pushed for time it is the step I will forgo. Since I am in the mood for laying my confessions bare let me share a little further - I've only plucked my eyebrows a handful of times, I don't enjoy the process and thanks to the sparse blonde hairs, I *think* I can just about get away with it? Waxing and tinting? Twice and neither time was I overly impressed - I felt scalped, intense and looked permanently surprised. Threading? Holy moly that was painful, it did give a really clean brow shape but let's just say I'm in no rush to do it again any time soon and again I've only experienced the process once. Oh I should also point out that all of the above happened over the age of 21 - a late bloomer to say the least.

So tell me am I alone in saying that it is time brows creeped back into the shadow they once lurked in or am I a complete weirdo that needs to have a long, chat with myself and brows?

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Review

When it came to the iconic Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, I forever felt like an outside looking in (cue dramatic music); you see up until late last year I was allergic to cocoa butter which happens to be one of the core ingredients within such cleanser. As such using a product laden with the skin nourishing and softening butter would be foolish - the end result would be a red, angry rash which I'm sure no-one truly sets out to achieve? Well as luck would have it, I seem to have outgrown such allergy, allowing me to not only try Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish but fully appreciate the formula too. Better late than never huh?

As I'm sure you aware Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, is held within high regard in the beauty world - as a matter of a fact it has won over 100 beauty awards since it's launch and to date it is still the only cleanser within the now expansive Liz Earle range. As you be aware, the concept behind Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish is to both gently and effectively cleanse the skin, (it will remove even the heaviest of make-up) as well as exfoliating and moisturising the skin too.

The best way to describe or categorise the Cleanse and Polish formula, is to deem it as a cream cleanser. Yes that is selling it a little short but it is difficult to describe, the thick, almost moisturiser like consistency any other way. To apply you simply dispense one to two pumps of product into the hands, gently massage into the face and neck, before removing with a damp muslin cloth. As Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish is a little thicker than your average cleanser, it encourages you to massage and really work it into the skin; this in turn promotes circulation which will leave the complexion glowing. The duty of the muslin cloth, along with removing the product is to "polish" the skin so to speak. By using gentle, polishing movements it will loosen any dead and dry skin cells, leaving the skin feeling and looking softer and smoother. With weeks of artificial heat ahead (the downside of Autumn) this could be the secret to a glowing, plump and nourished complexion.

As most will know by this point, science is not my strong point (goodness knows I do try) so I rather than go into great depth with let me quickly share a few of the main components of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. To protect, soothe and somewhat soften the skin this cleanser contains Beeswax, which may also relieve chapped skin. To degonest there is Eucalyptus essential oil, Glycerine for additional hydration, Hops Extract helps to tone the skin, as well as being an astringent (great for healing blemishes, Cocoa Butter to soften and lastly Rosemary Oil for it's beneficial antioxidant properties (to help promote and keep the complexion clear).

Now I've finally seen the light I am recommending Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser to all that will listen, the creamy texture is ideal for all skin types and ages - it glides over the skin, gently nourishing as it goes. I hasten to add that I have oily, blemish prone skin and can vouch that this does not irritate nor overwhelm, rather it effectively removes all traces of make up and sunscreen which in the past have been the source of many of a break out.

If you have yet to try Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, jump on board - it is fully worthy of all the hype and then some.

10 Beauty Uses for Aloe Vera Gel

Forget the new organic, natural and multi-purpose product on the block, that is Coconut Oil and spare a though for Aloe Vera Gel - the original hard working beauty product that so many of us now forget about. A naturally cooling, moisturising gel that is cheap, cheerful, easily found and the answer to many skin and beauty woes. If you don't consider Aloe Vera Gel to be a beauty classic, we can't friends...well we can be but expect me to bring up the issue that you are not on board with the natural wonder, at least once within our friendship.

Why is Aloe Vera Gel a shoe in for the beauty classic category? I'm so glad you asked. Did you know that Aloe Vera Gel is free from fragrance, colourants making it suitable for all skin types and conditions? Let me share ten ways you can utilise Aloe Vera Gel for all your skin and beauty needs.

1, Aloe Vera Gel is a gentle cleanser, it should melt off most forms of make-up (maybe use something else for stubborn eye make-up) and as boasts natural anti-septic qualities. As such it may help to not only calm blemishes but speed up the natural healing process too.

2, Did you know that Aloe Vera contains natural soothing and cooling properties much like menthol, that is why it is such a great remedy for helping to calm and take the sting out of not only sunburn but minor burns of any description. As a side note it will also take the itch out of most insects bites.

3, Aloe Vera works wonders on my eczema it gently yet deeply hydrates the dried out skin, all the while soothing and calming the irritation. I find it particularly effective on balmy nights when my skin oddly flares up, or when my eczema is at the dreaded cracked stage. Gross I know.

4, Before plucking your eyebrows, apply a thin layer of Aloe Vera gel and it will somewhat act as numbing agent making the whole process a little more comfortable. I kid you not when I say this is a tip I picked up while watching the TV show friends - you couldn't make it up.

5, As someone prone to hives I couldn't not begin to tell you how many times Aloe Vera Gel has come to my rescue. It gently soothes and calms my inflamed skin, prevents further swelling and of course takes care of any uncomfortable itching.

6, If you find your skin is easily irritated by regular shaving foam or gel, Aloe Vera Gel can be used in place. As an added bonus it will not only moisturise the skin but help to heal any shaving cuts - I can't be the only one incapable of not being able to shave their legs without loosing a strop or two of skin?

7, Perhaps not its most sophisticated of uses but practical none the less, Aloe Vera Gel can be used as an entirely natural skin moisturiser - both for the face and body.

8, Further adding to the above use, I have read reports of Aloe Vera Gel being used as a preventive method to prevent and then fade stretch marks. I personally believe that in some instances stretch marks can not be avoided but if you are not looking for a miracle cure it could be worth trying on old marks to see if they somewhat fade. As a preventive method I'd imagine it will work in the same vain any body moisturiser would, the may difference is that this is both cooling and 100% natural - not to mention quick to absorb and non-greasy.

9, If you are prone to under eye bags and general eye puffiness, a quick slick of Aloe Vera Gel will gently reduce any swelling, brighten the skin, all the while cooling and refreshing the area.

10, Lastly Aloe Vera Gel is one of the original hydrating and brightening facial mask - apply a generous layer all over the face, allow to absorb for up to 10 minutes and then tissue of the excess. As a side note you can somewhat adopt a similar method for the feet, again apply a layer all over the skin and then pop on socks before climbing into bed. Not only will your feet feel re-freshened but they will be softened too.

Hopefully you will now join me in becoming an avid fan of Aloe Vera Gel? Or perhaps you have a use for the gel that I have not mentioned above? If so please feel free to share in the comment section below.

Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette Review

Yesterday I shared the newly launched Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette, which is a great everyday palette. Understandably not everyone will enjoy nor have a need for more neutral shades and as such Seventeen have created, a cooler, smoky toned offering in Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette.

Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette Review

As I said in my previous post, the packaging of the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Palettes remind me of the Sleek Make Up Eyeshadow Palettes. The share a similar lay out and of course an almost identical style of packaging: black, plastic, slim with small pans of eyeshadow and of course a large mirror. Simple, robust and easy to transport around. Rather impressively the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Palettes contain a dual ended eyeshadow brush in place of a foam applicator, admittedly it is a little firm and dry but it sure is a step away from the norm.

If you have been looking for an affordable alternative to Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette, Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette may just be what you been waiting for. Much like the Urban Decay offering this palette contains various cool toned eyeshadows in an array of plum, purple, grey and general smoky eye ready shades. I see the Seventeen Birthday Suit palette as the day ready launch, where as Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette is ideal for the evenings - wouldn't you agree?

Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette Review

From left to right, top to bottom:
Twilight Blue - a satin formulated mid toned blue, a little dry in texture but beautifully pigmented.
Onyx Black - a deep, slightly glitter based plum, again a little dry but no issues with colour pay off.
Cocoa Brown - a light, blue tinged grey, a little dry but well pigmented.
Slate Grey - a metallic, cool toned taupe, soft with great levels of colour pay off.
Smoky Marble - a light, metallic, silver cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter.
Cloudy Lilac - a bright, copper cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter or bronzer.
Wild Khaki - a matte, cool toned dusky plum, a little chalky.
Warm Ivory - a light matte taupe that has a strong grey undertone, again a little chalky.
Cool Aluminium - a soft, mid toned lilac, oddly softer in texture and therefore easier to blend.
Pink Flush - a creamy, yellow toned ivory, similar in texture to the other matte eyeshadows.
Illuminating Bronze - a light, pink, metallic cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter.
Eye Primer - not a shade but an eyeshadow primer.

In all honesty this palette didn't quite blow me away, overall the eyeshadows are generally a little dry and chalky which can make for tricky application. Now don't get me wrong the shades are beautiful and offer a great assortment of finishes but sadly the formulations are sub par. Much like the Birthday Suit Palette I do not rate the primer - sticky, greasy and does not prolong the wear of any eyeshadow applied on top. I also found the cream eyeshadows to be a little oily and prone to creasing. Further adding to my issue with the cream textures, is the fact that any fall out from the powder eyeshadows will gather into the cream products and somewhat ruin them.

I want to like Seventeen Easy on the Eye The Big Smoke Palette but truthfully there are better, budget friendly smoky eyeshadows palettes out there. It's a skip from me.

As you may be aware each year to mark the festive season Yankee Candle launches a selection of limited edition fragrances, this year there are four to choose from - each more inviting than the last. Yes Christmas is still over two months away but there is no harm in being prepared for the big day nor the run up to the event, is there? Heck I would happily burn a few of the new Yankee Candle Christmas fragrances all year round. If the thought of a long, cold Winter is leaving you a little dreadful, let me share four warming new Yankee fragrances that may just brighten up your day.

Yankee Candle Christmas Fragrances 2015

Yankee Candle Berry Trifle - My Grandfather has a penchant for trifle, traditionally my Mother will rustle up one for Christmas Day and he will be as pleased as punch. For this reason alone, the scent of Yankee Candle Berry Trifle offers a certain nostalgic familiarity that many festive fragrances can not; it is sweet yet warming and is a great fruity based scent for those that dislike overly obvious Winter fragrances. Yankee Candle Berry Trifle features notes of fresh berries (strawberry and raspberry, I believe), combined with a hint of soft vanilla. It almost reminds me of Jelly (as in Jell-O) and ice cream.

Yankee Bundle Up - This is the scent I have the least to say about, don't get me wrong I do like it but it isn't nearly as cheery or Winter focused as I'd like. Apparently this is a clean, citrus tinged scent that has been created to evoke memories of frosty days and warm, layers of clothing. In my opinion it is very reminiscent of fabric softener which I guess is apt, when bundled up in layers you will of course smell such product off of your clothing. Nice enough but nowhere near as special as the other three additions within the range.

Yankee Cosy By the Fire - If you are a huge Lush fan and fell in love with the limited edition Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel, then you will want to purchase Yankee Cosy By the Fire. This scent has a certain alcoholic kick (almost like whisky or a rich cognac), coupled with a smoky, earthen woody note. It reminds me of both the crisp, smoke filled scent of the lead up to Guy Fawkes night and the aroma of logs burning on an open fire. It is the quintessential scent of Winter without being overly obvious nor festive.

Yankee Winter Glow - A soft, delicate scent that has been created to mimic both the freshness of snow fall and the warmth of coming in-doors on a cold, Winter evening. Cooling menthol combines with warming Amber for the best of both worlds. This is the scent that I will most likely choose to burn well watching Christmas movies come mid-December.

I've now used up all four of my votives (I tend to purchase either a small candle or wax tart before splurging on a large jar) and have decided that once I return home from the US, I will purchase a large jar of Yankee Berry Trifle and Yankee Cosy By the Fire.

Have you tried any of the above scents? If not which of the four appeals to you most?

You can find the entire range of Yankee Candle Christmas Fragrances via Yankee Candle - link, prices range from £1.49 - £21.99.

Yankee Candle Christmas Fragrances 2015

I feel like recently the quality and choices of make up products available within the UK high street has become unmissable. Gone are the days of sub par formulations and dated shades selections, rather some of the products could rival that of a high end counter. One brand that really upped their game is Seventeen, especially in the palette front with both new eyeshadow and lip sets on offer. If like myself you enjoy neutral and warm toned washes of colour for the eye area, you need to give the new Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette a whirl.

I'm not sure if it is intentional or not but the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette packaging and lay out of shades reminds me a lot of the Sleek Eyeshadow palettes? A slim and excuse the pun, sleek, black plastic casing that contains not only 8 powder eyeshadows but also cream eyeshadows,a primer  and a mirror too. I do feel that Seventeen should be commended for forgoing the typical foam eyeshadow applicator and replacing with a dual ended brush. Is it the best brush out there? No but it sure is a start.

As mentioned above the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette is a neutral palette, it contains 8 power eyeshadows varying in fairly light, pink tinged bronze and brown eyeshadows. I'm not saying it is an outright dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette because it's not but if on a budget it is a great alternative. Rather annoyingly the shades within the Birthday Suit are not individually named so I have had to result to old school tactics for a full break down, I apologise in advance.

From left to right, top to bottom:
Shade 1 - a light, metallic soft peach, fairly pigmented and best for a light wash of colour.
Shade 2 - a cool toned, mid- peach come pink that again is metallic based and offers average pigmentation.
Shade 3 - a warm, slightly ruddy toned matte light brown that is soft in texture and well pigmented.
Shade 4 - a metallic pink tinged bronze, really pigmented.
Shade 5 - a light, pink tinged bronze cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter.
Shade 6 - a light peach cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter.
Shade 7 - a flat, stark matte ivory. A little chalky if I am entirely honest.
Shade 8 - a somewhat glittery, bright golden toned copper - a little dry in texture.
Shade 9 - a cool toned, almost glitter based shimmering, light taupe - again, a little dry in texture but it does offer great colour pay off.
Shade 10 - a deep, red tinged metallic purple that is well formulated and pigmented.
Shade 11 - a neutral, mid toned bronze cream eyeshadow that can double up as a highlighter or bronzer.
Shade 12 - not a shade but an eyeshadow primer.

Now from the get go, I do want to stress that I do like the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette but I do have a few gripes. For instance the quality of the eyeshadow does vary per shade, some are a little dry but on the whole the textures are easy to work with, blend and wear fairly well with a primer. The primer in the palette in my opinion is not worth using, it is sticky, greasy and does nothing to enhance the pigment of the eyeshadow, nor staying power. My other grumble is that by containing both cream and powder eyeshadow textures in one palette, you will find that sooner or later any powder fall out will gather into the cream products. Speaking of the cream eyeshadows they are a little greasy and prone to creasing.

You may be reading the above and coming to the conclusion that I am not a fan of the Seventeen Easy on the Eye Birthday Suit Palette? I can assure you that I do like not only the shades within the palette but do think that when the powder eyeshadows are good, they are great. My main criticism is that I don't think cream and powder products do well in one palette when there is no sort of permanent shield. Overall it is a lovely, budget friendly, warm toned array of eyeshadows that are great for travel and everyday use.
