Davidoff Cool Water Summer Seas Eau de Toilette

Isn't it funny how fragrances can take you right back to an exact moment in time? As a super young child, veering on becoming a teenager Davidoff Cool Waters fragrances were the scents to be seen in. Anybody who was anyone had a bottle. As I was yet to as much as become a teenager I of course had to beg, and then beg a little more for a bottle that Christmas. Luckily my Grandmother answered my plight and man did I feel grown up. So grown up that I wore it to the local carnival (the UK equivalent of a state fare) and was over the moon when an adult working there complimented me on my choice of fragrance. Like I said it is bizarre what fragrances can make you recall.

If I'm entirely honest I have long grown out of Davidoff Cool Water fragrances, they are slightly too aquatic for my taste. However if you enjoy fragrances within this category and/or you happen to be a fan of the original, then I highly suggest you try out the latest and limited edition version - Davidoff Cool Water Summer Seas Eau de Toilette.

"Cool Water Woman Summer Seas edition is a bright and decidedly feminine floral fruity scent. The delicate fragrance marries a fresh and tantalizing aquatic note of melon and a soft and delicate bouquet of lilies of the valley. This irresistible alliance closes on a rich and sensual trail of Orrisroot."

Davidoff Cool Water Summer Seas Eau de Toilette is very much identical to the original Cool Water fragrance for women; light and aquatic (it most likely smells how you imagine), it will remind you of the beach and of course the sea/water - hence the name. The new and limited edition version contains a few different notes lily of the valley and melon (as noted above) which does give it a slightly different twist especially on the dry down. It doesn't cloy in the heat and is very refreshing, it is one of the few scents that I can wear in the warmest of weather safe in the knowledge that it won't give me a headache or make me feel sick. I must stress that there is not all that much of a difference between the original Cool Waters and the Summer Seas version; this edition is ever so slightly lighter, fresher and does have a light fruity additional note.

Summer Proof Bases

It may not be sunny here in Scotland but it is humid and somewhat sticky which has no boded well for my foundation. As someone who hasn't really embraced dewy or sheer bases the Summer months are forever a struggle - I want something that is lightweight yet covers all my blemishes and scarring, something that doesn't cake nor look heavy and more importantly won't slide off my face.

In the past I relied on Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation but I do find the shades to be a little tricky to match perfectly to my skin tone. Then there was my dabble with Chanel Vita which is a lovely enough foundation but is highly perfumed and does sometimes irritate my skin. I know a lot enjoy MAC Face and Body Foundation but it never fully sets on my face, regardless of what primer or powder I use along with it. I want to love NARS Sheer Glow, great shades and decent enough coverage but I do feel it is a little over hyped. Typically (and I'm not saying all) BB and CC Creams don't offer enough coverage for my skin needs and again don't always set on my oily skin. What can I say, I'm picky!

So what do I want? A lightweight foundation that covers well, it doesn't have offer a matte finish but it does have to be long wearing and if possible contain an SPF. I want a foundation that doesn't become uncomfortable on the skin when the weather becomes humid - no mean feat but I'm hoping someone out there who perhaps lives in a more tropical climate than myself will have a few suggestions? I have no restraints on budget as this is an everyday product that I will be using for a good few months so I am more than happy to invest.

So tell me what is your go to Summer base?

What's New at Ojon

Annoyingly I have next to no Internet connection at the moment so you will have to forgive me for any sporadic postings for the next few days, I have attempted to schedule posts while I'm away but it doesn't seem to be going to plan. Internet woes aside let me share two new launches from Ojon, both of which are aimed at dry, broken and frizz prone hair types. Let me introduce you to the two latest additions to the Ojon Rare Blend collection.

Ojon Rare Blend Infusion Shampoo (£21), admittedly I won't ever use this as it contains micro beads but not everyone shares the same stance as I do so let me explain what it does and who it aimed at. Typically shampoo is not known for its moisturising properties which can be less than ideal when you have dried out hair. Ojon Rare Blend Infusion Shampoo is a light yet deeply nourishing cleanser for the hair that contains mini pearls of Ojon Rare Oil which burst within contact of the hair to smooth, deeply moisturise and tame dried out and frizzy hair. It is a clever concept and it is about time that more shampoos not only cleanse but also offer up a level of hydration without weighing the hair down. If this didn't contain micro beads I'd be all over this product.

To compliment the Ojon Rare Blend Infusion Shampoo there is Ojon Rare Blend Moisture Therapy Conditioner (£23), a deep yet light conditioner that is more of a hair mask than your run of the mill conditioner. This thick balm is not only a breeze to apply but it quickly smooths and conditions the hair cuticle, leaving it not only feeling smoother but appearing more glossy and polished. If like myself you struggle from both dry and frizz hair this is one I'd recommend trying, it as close to a professional glossing and repairing treatment as I've tried. I have only just began trailing this but so far it is a huge thumbs up from me.

I will of course update with a full review in the coming weeks but for now Ojon Rare Blend Moisture Therapy Conditioner is slowly but surely repairing my hair - I can not recommend it enough.

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

I apologise that my weekly catch up post is a day late, sadly the events of the weekend both newsworthy and personal have weighed heavy on my heart and I took a step away from the internet for the last few days. I am going away for a few days (nowhere exotic, just down to the coast of Scotland) for a little rest and escapism and shall hopefully feel rejuvenated and back to my normal, happy self.

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

Going On's - The past week I was lucky enough to be invited to not one but two exciting events. First up I popped along to my local Benefit counter for a make-up master class that involved the new and then yet to be launched colourful versions of Benefit They're Real Mascara and Eye Liners. Typically I'm not a fan of colourful eye make-up but the jewel tones are super wearable and dare I say it fairly easy to use.

On Thursday night I sat down to dinner with the wonderful Smashbox, Ojon and Bumble and Bumble team, not only was the evening wonderful - so chilled with great company but I can safely say it is going to be an exciting few months for all the brands mentioned above. There is an abundance of new and innovative launches coming our way, some of which I have been kindly gifted and will be sharing my thought on in the coming weeks.

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

Beauty Rediscoveries - Who ever thought Vaseline would worm its way back into my life? Not me that's for sure but I have been enjoying Vaseline Rosy Lips Lip Balm, if only for the SPF protection. I do like the pale pink tint it delivers but won't pretend for one moment that it is my favourite lip balm by any means. I apologise that both the palettes I am about to mention are both limited edition and in most instances sold out but they are all I have been reaching for in terms of blushes. On days in which I just want a light healthy glow to the cheeks I have been swirling on Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (still in stock via Liberty) - I'm not really picky to which shade I apply as all three are rather flattering. On other days, when I've been craving a bolder cheek statement it has been a combination of NARS Laguna Bronzer and NARS Goulou Blush both of which are housed within my NARS Guy Bourdin One Night Stand Palette.

Recent Finds - Eucerin is not a brand I use all that frequently but two products that have saved my skin have been the Eucerin Ultra Sensitive Soothing Care Cream - a light yet thick moisturiser that has been nothing but kind on my currently hive prone complexion. It soothes, hydrates and does not irritate the skin. If like myself you suffer from random allergies or have overly sensitised skin this is a must. I've also been enjoying the Eucerin Aquaporin Active Moisturising Eye Cream - quick to hydrate yet doesn't leave my skin feeling tight nor uncomfortable. Great for young skin types who don't want nor need anti-ageing technology. I would also like to recommend the new Topshop Lip and Cheek Smudge Sticks - a firm, matte cream that works as well on the lips as it does the cheeks. I have the light and bright peach hue that is dubbed Always on Time! A great little pencil to keep in a travel bag or even to take along to a festival. If you are a fan of contouring and highlighting you won't want to miss out on the new Collection Highlighting and Sculpting Palette - a nifty budget find that does all it says on the tin.

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

My Current Obsession - Typically this would be a shout out to a beauty item but I can't get enough of the Alex + Anie bangles, I was kindly gifted one at the Smashbox dinner and have mentally made a note of another nine designs that I want to purchase. Can you believe that prices start at just £19?

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

Fragrance of the Week - It goes without saying that Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche is very much the fragrance of the moment. A bright, creamy coconut come citrus blend that smells both like an exotic location and sun lotion. You need to try this, I promise you will fall head over heels.

The Week That Was (21st-28th of June)

Empties - I've finished both my Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm which I will be replacing as soon as possible and my favourite day to day lip balm - Epic Blends More Moisture Grape Lip Balm. I've become quite the lip balm fanatic lately, on the plus side my lips have never been in better shape. The only other item I have managed to complete is Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion - Brightening & Tightening, which I do really enjoy. I'll save my thoughts for the full review later on this week but if you enjoy the eyeshadow version this is a product you will want to add to your make-up bag asap.

On the Wish List - I posted a lengthy wish list here - link but topping it would have to be a bottle of Tom Ford Azure Lime Eau de Parfum. It is one of those fragrances that has haunted my dreams since I tested it out on counter. Fresh, zesty and very much Summer ready.

Feel free to let me know what you have been enjoying over the last seven days or perhaps what you are looking forward to most in the coming days?

Sight Seeing Beauty Essentials

As of today I am visiting the coast of Scotland - something I have not done since I was a super young child. My plans involve getting lots of rest, fresh air and of course discovering a new city and haunts. When it comes to the contents of my handbag I like to keep it minimal (my suitcase is a whole different story - if I could I would pack the kitchen sink), purely due to the fact I will be carting it around all day. In my opinion comfort is key be it my shoulders, crook of my arm or even my feet. I want to enjoy myself taking in all the sights not be weighed down by an overstuffed bag or worse a blister. Let me share with you my bare minimum beauty essentials that

Sight Seeing Beauty Essentials

Let's begin with feet shall we? I am through and through an Adidas gal, I own more pairs of Adidas Gazelle's and Superstar's than I care to think. At the moment I have been pretty much living in the above pair of Adidas OriginalsGazelle OG - super comfortable, lightweight and I find that the bright blue shade compliments a good proportion of my Summer wardrobe. Regardless of personal footwear taste do be sure to slip on a comfortable pair of shoes when sight seeing, you'll be on your feet for the majority of the day and if past experiences are anything to go by no-one will be all that sympathetic of your rubbing shoe plight. As added reassurance and for the sake of general first aid, a box of fabric plasters (band-aids) never goes wrong - lord I am turning into my Grandmother.

Sight Seeing Beauty Essentials

From feet we move on to hands and my two essentials are probably things that the majority of us have at the bottom of our handbags - a bottle of hand sanitizer and a tube of hand cream. In all truthfulness I don't care what brand or scent my anti-bacterial hand sanitizer as long as it kills germs and re-freshens my hands I'm happy. I also like to cart around a small tube of hand cream to prevent the alcohol from the hand gel drying out my hands. Again I'm not picky and tend to scope out travel sized versions as they weigh less and take up less room in my bag. At the moment I am working my way through & Other Stories Floral Memento Hand Cream (£5), which is fairly light in both texture and scent - great if you plan on eating using your hands.

Sight Seeing Beauty Essentials

Would you be surprised to learn that my day to day make-up bag is basically empty? Yep I have no more than five cosmetic items and even then then they really have to earn their place. First up I have a mini face brush by Real Techniques which I use in conjunction with MAC Prep + Prime Finishing Pressed Powder to keep shine at bay. I like that this powder not only softens the appearance of fine lines and enlarged pores, controls excess oil but it also doesn't tend to cake on the skin. It really is a great warm weather option. I also like to pack Topshop's Cream Blush in Head Over Heels to dab on to perk up my complexion should I need to. Despite being a cream formula it never looks oily and is so easy to just dab on and blend out - it can also double up as a matte coral lip shade should you wish. Speaking of multi-purpose products Kiko Eyeshadow in Shade 28 in my everyday make-up bag - not only does it provide a quick, eye brightening wash of colour that doesn't require a brush for application but doubles up as a great cream highlighter.

I'm not typically a fan of Vaseline and don't think it is the best way to care for the lips but for travel I do have a tube of Vaseline Rosy Lips, mainly for the SPF protection and tint factor. For just £2 this little stick not only protects my lips from the harmful sun rays but also delivers a glossy, natural flush of colour. As it is so cheap I don't worry about loosing it nor it melting in the heat. Being forever the optimist I do keep a tube of bright lipstick in my bag just in-case I end up going out for dinner. There's something about a bright red or pink lipstick that makes me feel more pulled together. I've only just added Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy to my bag, I'll be sure to report back on how I find the shade.

Sight Seeing Beauty Essentials

Lastly to both cool down and stay fresh I have two very different sprays - one for my face and one for my body. If you are passing & Other Stories or placing an online order than I can not recommend picking up one of their Body Mists. My personal favourite has to be & Other Stories Moroccan Tea Body Mist - light, green and slightly minty. Not only does it fragrance both the hair and skin but it helps to cool and freshen. The dinky 50ml size is also ideal for popping into even the smallest of bags. For my face I have added Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist, not only does this set make-up but it cools, calms and hydrates the skin in one swift movement - in an ideal world I would be able to purchase this in a smaller size but hey you can't win them all.

Along with an umbrella (I'm Scottish, you can't fool me into believing the warm weather will last) I do always have some form of SPF on my person at all times. Pretty much self explanatory; I don't want sun burn nor damage and have no qualms slicking it on aboard a tour bus. You just try and stop me - hashtag no sun lotion shame.

Now if you'd excuse me I am off to play the know it all tourist ha!

This post contains both press samples and items I have purchased myself.

Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist

As someone with oily skin the Summer weather, especially humid conditions is not my friend as far as make-up is concerned. I don't particularly want to nor enjoy constantly applying pressed powder throughout the day, to prevent make-up from all but melting off my face so I do rely on setting sprays. I realise that not everyone likes Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray for whatever reason so let me offer up an alternative in Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist.

Would it surprise you to learn that I am rather picky in regards to setting sprays? Probably not - the heat makes everyone fickle. I don't only require a make-up setting spray to ensure my make-up stays in place but it has to be gentle on the skin, it can't clog the pores or aggravate my acne. If it hydrates and contains skin care benefits all the better - Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist is all of the above and more.

Much like most make-up setting sprays you apply Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist after you have finished your make-up to keep things in place but did you know you can use it as a primer? Simply mist on the skin before make-up application, allow to dry and apply make-up as usual. Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist has been formulated so it also refreshes and hydrates the skin using rose water and green tea extracts and can be used throughout the day for that reason alone, much like other cooling facial mists.

As I imagine most will purchase Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist in the hope prolonging make-up wear, I really should mention if it indeed delivers. Yes it does, it keeps my make-up from not only sliding off my face but to some extent also offers a little oil control without parching my skin of natural moisture, nor altering the finish of any make-up it is applied on top of. As a matter of a fact I would deem this to be fairly hydrating without overwhelming the complexion. I will admit that it is not as heavy duty or as long lasting as the Urban Decay option but then again it does offer more skin care benefits.

If you are on the look out for a facial spray that pretty much does it all, Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist is one to invest within. It not only suitably sets the skin but it can double up as a primer, facial refresher and so much more. Impressive however you look at it.

Pixi Make Up Fixing Mist Review

A Note On Candle Care

I could talk about candles all day, I don't know what that says about me other than I have an extremely boring life and past times. On the plus side I have foolishly wasted enough candles to know what to avoid and on the flip side what to do to keep them in tip top condition. No-one wants to drop £40 on a candle (yeah some of us have more money than sense) for it to tunnel, or worse burn below its suggested time period. Let me school you with a few candle care tips before I sign up for y'know some real hobbies...I hear calligraphy is simply riveting. You think I'm being sarcastic but it is something I want to master.

- Avoid storing or placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight, much like personal fragrance this can affect and alter the overall fragrance. If the candle wax happens to be tinted this may encourage it to fade.

- Before burning your candle, be it for the first time or the tenth trim the wick (this does not apply if the wick is wooden) to as close to 1cm as possible.

- When using a candle for the first time allow for around two hours of burning time or until the wax has fully melted evenly on top before extinguishing. This prevents the candle from tunnelling and results in a longer candle life span (yep really a thing).

- Speaking of wax pools (doesn't that sound like a spa treatment?), attempt to keep yours clear from debris (dust, disregarded pieces of wick and so forth) to prevent fire hazards from happening. I realise it sounds strange and dramatic but it has happened in the past - at one point I nearly lost an eyebrow. Learn from my mistakes people ha!

- While we are on the topic of fire hazards, do not light your candle near any loose fabrics such as curtains and bed linens. In the same vain it is less than ideal to place a lit candle in the path of a draft or breeze.

- Some candles won't burn clean and may produce an annoying black soot, for that reason alone I don't burn my candles too close to a wall as it is a nightmare to clean up afterwards.

- I'm sure this is common sense but do not attempt to move a lit candle, especially if said candle is housed inside a glass container. It will retain heat and it will burn your hand.

- Another non-brainer is to of course place lit candles not only out of the reach of children and pets but to avoid places they will be knocked over easily in general. In the same vain do not leave a lit candle unattended ever, and I mean ever.

- Lastly to dispel any old wives tales, freezing your candle before burning will not extend the life.Yes it will burn a little slower to begin with (we are talking a few minutes at the most) but due to the heat of the wick, it will quickly heat up and burn as normal. The only time I freeze a candle is to remove any left over wax (it makes the job ten times easier) when cleaning to re-purpose the glass jar.

I apologise if anything above comes across a little preachy, sometimes I do scramble aboard my soapbox and there is no stopping me. I do hope that the points I raised can help answer a few questions or at the very least allow you to squeeze a few more hours of use from your candles. As always if you have any other tips please feel free to leave them below!

What is Strobing?

A new beauty buzz word is taking both beauty publications and social media by storm - "Strobing". Before you panic and worry that much like contouring it is something that you will never fully get the hang of rest assure that it is not all that tricky and probably a technique you have used in the past. You see essentially Strobing is essentially just a fancy way of describing highlighting the skin; rather than relying on both highlighting and contouring to add dimension to the face, Strobing solely uses highlighting. The end result? A fairly defined and glowy complexion.

What is Strobing?

Some of us are just blessed with wizard like paint skills, don't hate the playa' hate the game.

I'm not entirely sure where the term Strobing was coined but it does not not refer to any form of technique, so no need to brush up on any new fancy application skills (yeah I too let out a breath of relief). The idea is that you apply your chosen highlighter to the areas of the face in which light naturally hits i.e the top of the cheekbones, centre of the nose, cupid bow, brow bone and should you wish the centre of the forehead. Above I have quickly outlined the typical places to highlight/strobe but I would say in general it is a pretty forgiving beauty movement - there is no real right or wrong way to embrace the concept. The end result should be illuminated, healthy lit from within skin that is defined rather than intense, overly shimmery or worse glittery skin (guilty as charged on more than one occasion). As someone with blemish prone skin I do not recommend applying highlighter on an affected area as it tends to draw more attention to the problem, and on occasion it has given me the appearance of a more angry blemish. The opposite of what I was hoping to achieve.

What is Strobing?

What I have found when it comes to what I'd deem intense highlighting - "Strobing" if your fancy, is that it best works when you keep the rest of your make-up matte or at least the base. Otherwise it can appear a little on the shiny and dare I say it greasy side but then again to each their own. My other piece of advice would be to invest in not only a natural toned and finish highlighter (think finely milled shimmer or metallic over chunky glitter) and if using powder a tapered brush. Trust me with the right tools and product for that matter, highlighting is a breeze and unlike contouring you can really blend into the skin should you fear that you have went a little over board.

For those looking for a great, subtle, glow inducing but effective highlighter options may I recommend the following :
- Benefit High Beam for light complexions
- Benefit Sun Beam for deeper skin tones.
- Any light tone of the Kiko Water Eyeshadows
- Lush Feeling Younger Skin Tint
- Revlon Skin Lights Face Illuminators
- No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter

So is it a yay to "Strobing" or are you a little over beauty terminology?

Your Everyday Beauty Essentials

Do you know what we never talk about? Our everyday essentials, those products that quite happily line up inside the shower serving you daily and yet they get next to no air time. Well today I'm not only going to share what I rely on day to day but also ask what your hidden beauty gems are. What do you use without a second thought and why? Admittedly not the most exciting of beauty posts but hey never overlook the beauty basics!

I've dabbled with waxing and even hair removal creams but personally I'd rather stick with a razor to remove body hair. For quite some while now I have been relying on the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women (£6.99) - a light razor that has a swivel head to reach even the trickiest of areas - I've blindly raked this over my air pits in the morning free from injury, the same applies with my ankles. If like myself you are a razor kinda gal, give these a whirl the next time you require razors - I can all but guarantee you will not be disappointed. For those wondering, yes I do use a shaving gel - more often than not it is Gillette Venus Satin Care Radiant Apricot Shave Gel (£3.49), Why? It smells of apricots so it is a non-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Nail polish remover - less than exciting but you can bet your bottom dollar you will panic should you be without it. I'm not particularly fancy nor picky when it comes to nail polish remover - it stinks and only has one real job, to remove chipped or unwanted nail polish from my nails. More often than not I will purchase Cutex Nourishing Nail Polish Remover (£2.15) as it is both gentle and effective, it quickly removes all traces of nail polish without drying out my nail beds. It is also pretty much readily available on the UK high street and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

While we are somewhat on the topic of hands, I do want to mention Origins Plantscription Anti-Ageing Hand Cream (£29.50). Yes it is fairly pricey at just under £30 but I do believe that a lot like your face, you should really put the time and effort into looking after your hands as they are one of the first places to show the signs of ageing. I like that this cream not only moisturises but also protects and restores - it is thick, luxurious and quickly absorbed. I use it several times a day and have yet to finish my first tube, I can't recommend it enough to all ages.

I like to scrub my body daily, it makes me feel fresh and as someone who is partial to self tanning it is somewhat of a necessity to prevent my skin from looking both scaly and uneven in colour. As many will know I adore the & Other Stories Body Scrubs, as there is no store in the UK outside of London I have had to find a suitable alternative. For me Sancturay Spa Cooling Glacial Scrub (£8) is the answer - a similar texture to my beloved & Other Stories scrub (thick, gritty yet it foams) with cooling technology. If you enjoy sea salt scrubs that have a aquatic scent this should be your next purchase. As a side note it effectively removes even the driest of skin without ever being harsh and doubles up as a great foot scrub.

If like myself moisturising your body daily is somewhat a chore, then may I suggest Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Deep Moisture Body Milk (£10). Not only does it smell exactly like a scrumptious malt based vanilla milkshake but it deeply moisturises the whole body with next to no effort. This creamy lotion is quick and easy to apply, non-sticky and leaves the skin feeling soft and supple. It's not often I get to say this but I occasionally look forward to moisturising my body when this lotion is concerned. If that doesn't convince you to give it a try I'm not sure much else will ha!

So what daily beauty essentials do you use daily that you seldom rave about?

Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms

Cream blush, the notoriously fickle sister of the blush world so difficult to get right but worth the extra hassle if you enjoy a naturally glowing flush of colour. Well let me take the inconvenience out of trying several cream blush formulations and point you in the direction of the new Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms. Three shades of dewy, easy to apply and wear blushes that last the pace - trust me when I say you don't want to miss out on this limited edition launch.

Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms

The Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms are pretty dinky in size and come presented in small, round chrome pots that are lightweight yet large enough to house the majority of blush brushes should you choose to use one with ease. Personally I find the soft, silken texture works best applied with fingertips as the heat of the finger pads helps to melt/blend out the blush. Application aside the size is great for travel and day to day applications as it can be popped into even the smallest of bags with ease.

Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms
Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms

Although limited edition the Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms come in three shades, all of which are fairly neutral and universally flattering: Natural - a dusky, cool toned rose brown, Posy - a medium toned, yellow tinged pink and Papaya - a bright, yellow based coral. I have the shade Natural which is the perfect everyday blush for light to medium skin tones that both brightens and defines the face. Although in no way identical if you are a fan of Benefit Dallas Powder then this is a shade I'd imagine you would want to try out - it gives the same naturally flushed, outdoor-sy glow i.e an almost sun burnt come sun kissed look. I realise on paper this doesn't read as well as it applies in person.

Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms

I'm sure the majority of us have experienced some dud cream blushes in our time? Be it a blush that is so creamy that it veers oily or those cream blushes that look more shiny than dewy on the skin. Yep been there, done that. What sets Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms aside from other cream blushes is the texture - a soft, velveteen cream that glides on to the skin delivering a healthy does of pigment, settles to a soft slightly dewy powder finish and isn't troubled by oily skin. The best part? It not only wears for up to 8 hours with ease but it helps to soften the appearance of enlarged pores too, all without the need for a skin smoothing primer. The finish of the Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms is so natural that you can apply in layers should you wish to intensify the colour pay off without it ever appearing heavy nor greasy, nor sliding off the face. As an added bonus the Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms can double up as semi matte lip colours should you wish - who doesn't love multi-purpose products?

My Little Box July 2015 French Rivera Box

I have said quite often that I am a huge fan of My Little Box - a cute monthly subscription plan that offers both beauty and lifestyle pieces, delivered to the comfort of your home each month. Like everything in this sector of the beauty market it can be a little hit and miss - I do feel My Little Box get it right more than they do wrong but every now and then, there is what can only be described as a random box. Yep My Little Box July 2015 French Rivera Box is a little odd - from plant pots to sunglasses, you may be left scratching your head. I know I was...

My Little Box July 2015 French Rivera Box
My Little Box July 2015 French Rivera Box

As with every My Little Box not only do you receive a beautifully designed box, created to reflect the themed contents inside but also a small art work print and a magazine. This month it features Sarah Lavoine as the cover star (an interior designer), who has also selected some of the contents of this months box.

Yep My Little Box French Rivera Box contains plastic plant pots, I understand these are more of a nod Sarah Lavoine rather than the French Rivera. On the plus side they are fairly nautical in terms of design and double up as pen pots or even a place to stash make-up bits and pieces. There is also a pair of small, brown sunglasses which are pretty inoffensive and should suit all. I'm not sure, okay I am certain that they will not be a staple item within my wardrobe but they'd be great for an emergency. You can't really have too many pairs of sunglasses can you?

If I am entirely honest I was a little underwhelmed by the beauty selection within the My Little Box French Rivera Box, it feels very similar to what has been in previous boxes and dare I say it a little repetitive. Along with a blue nail polish there is a a My Little Beauty Sea Salt Scrub which does smell wonderful (very aquatic) and is great for buffing the skin. This little bag of goodies is finished off with the addition of Keratine Thermique Blow-Dry Care for Unruly Hair - I'd imagine this would be great for packaging in a case should you be visiting a humid location this Summer.

If I am completely honest, this box was not only a little bizarre but underwhelming. I'm hoping that the August edition will be a little more exciting and a little more considered in terms of contents.

You can subscribe to My Little Box within the UK here for £14.95 per month - link

MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion

Many brands have tried to fill the gap that borders make-up and skin care, truthfully very few have succeeded. One product that does just that and is somewhat of a make-up artists must have is MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion. A deeply nourishing, optically blurring, silky serum like product that can be worn alone for a much needed moisture boost or used as a primer to create a beautiful base. I will state from the get go that trying is believing with this product!

MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion Review
MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion Review

As much as I don't really like the frosted glass packaging (I find frosted glass difficult to touch, yes I'm a little odd) I can not fault the overall design. The pump bottle dispenses just enough product each and every time minimising product waste, mess or spill. I also like that the cap locks meaning even in transit you should be free from leakages.

Typically when it comes to MAC products I am all about the new and limited edition launches but if you try one new MAC product this month please let it be MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion. As someone with enlarged pores I am no stranger to primers, the majority that aim to blur and perfect are very much laden down with silicones which can result in a heavy and uncomfortable texture. MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion does contain silicone to fill and even out imperfections such as open pores and facial lines (which it does wonderfully so) but oddly the texture is light, silken and gel like. On the skin it not only absorbs instantly but feels cooling, refreshing and I find it not only hydrates but also somewhat firms the skin too. Despite the moisturising benefits this will not overwhelm oily skin, as an added bonus those with dry skin may find that using this as a primer will prevent any make-up applied on top from clinging to dry patches. As a primer it of course helps blur the appearance of pores and lines as well as prolonging make-up wear, keeping dryness at bay all without altering the finish of any base products applied on top.

MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion Review

Now MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion is not just your typical primer, oh no it can be used as a stand alone product (much like a moisturiser) to create a light radiant and fresh glow to the skin. It plumps and adds radiance to the skin all the while blurring imperfections in one quick step. You can also mix a little in with a tinted moisturiser, foundation or BB Cream to create a more radiant and glowing finish to the skin. It really does create the most healthy, youthful and fresh look to the skin I have ever seen or achieved from one product without the need for shimmer or glitter particles. I should also mention that this photographs well on the skin (with or without make-up), as there is no SPF you don't have to worry about flashback nor does the radiance boosting effect translate as oily/greasy on camera.

Like I said you really need to try this to see and feel the effects in person but if you are feed up of heavy and uncomfortable primers this is the a breathe of fresh air. Think of it as a primer, moisturiser, perfector and highlighter all rolled into one - your make-up bag needs this. Thank me later.

Pay Day Treats Wishlist

So it's pay day and we all deserve a treat don't we? Obviously I won't be purchasing everything above - heck a gal's go rent to pay and a face to feed! In a dream world everything above would be coming home with me tomorrow but until that lottery win happens I'll settle with treating myself to just one or two pieces...

1, REN Wake Wonderful Night Time Facial (£32) - a clever serum that brightens and tones the skin overnight, to create soft glowy skin. Doesn't this sound like the lazy gal's dream? Next to no effort, I can sleep while works and will awaken to brighter skin. Consider me sold!

2, I'm not sure what I want from Grown Alchemist yet, I just know that it is a skin care brand that I am keen to try out sooner rather than later. If you are familiar with the product line and have any recommendation (or misses for that matter) do let me know. You can view the entire product range via Space.NK - link.

3, As many will know I enjoy fragrance, perhaps a little more than the average person so I do have a few scents topping my to buy list which includes Diptyque Eau Duelle Eau de Toilette (£58). I have tested this so many times in Space.NK yet never took the plunge. If you enjoy spicy yet very unisex scents this is one to try!

4, I keep saying I won't purchase any more candles as frankly I have more than any one person should really have yet I feel that sooner or later Diptyque Ambre Candle (£40) will be coming home with me soon. This is a warm scent that smells as great in the Summer as it does comforting in the cooler months.

5, I need a full sized bottle of Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia Cologne (£85) in my life as soon as possible, I was gifted with a teeny tiny vial of such scent in a goody bag not so long ago and let's just say an obsession was born. It is light, floral and slightly fruity - I can not think of a more ideal carefree Summer scent.

6,Bella Freud Ginsberg is God Candle (£40) will most likely be my treat this month - I really like the strong and somewhat herbal aroma not to mention the packaging really speaks to me. Don't ask ha!

7, Dior Addict Lip Glow (£24), tell me do I need this product? I've heard lots of people say they love it as it adapts using the skins natural pH levels to create a custom shade. I am intrigued yet have not purchased it - I always think products like this can be a little gimmicky? If you have Dior Lip Glow I'd love to hear your thoughts and of course read your reviews!

8, I have lots of weaknesses (help me ha!), one such is tapered facial brushes anything that can help create a sculpted look with ease will forever tempt me. At the moment I am lusting over the Charlotte Tilbury Powder & Sculpt Brush (£35) - dinky yet well made and could be what my contouring dreams are made of.

9, Tom Ford Private Blend fragrances are the epitome of luxury, there are very few within the huge line up that I don't enjoy. Admittedly most are dark and best suited to evening wear but Tom Ford Azure Lime Eau de Parfum is a little different - light, zesty and very fruity, I dare you not to be seduced by it!

10, One last fragrance - I promise. Newly launched is Chanel Chance Eau Vive, said to be a zesty floral that is captivating and unlike any other Chanel scent offering. I am so eager to try this on counter as a huge fan of the original Chanel Chance I can't imagine I will be disappointed!

What is topping your wish list at the moment?

Clinique Perfect Eyes and Brows Travel Exclusive Kit

Fun fact - I'm not a great traveller, I get sick (both physically and in the missing home sense) and could somewhat be described as a nervous flyer. I enjoy visiting new places but really do long for the day in which we can teleport - dream big. To take my mind off of the process of flying I can often be found slinking around Duty Free treating myself to a few travel exclusive kits - hey they are great value for money and often feature my favourite skin and make-up pieces. If you are due to pass through Duty Free any time soon may I suggest the Clinique Perfect Eyes and Brows Travel Exclusive Kit.

Clinique Perfect Eyes and Brows Travel Exclusive Kit

At around £30 (prices do vary per location) the Clinique Perfect Eyes and Brows Travel Exclusive Kit contains all you need to create a natural but defined eye and brow look. This nifty little kit contains three full sized products and one deluxe sample. Inside Clinique Perfect Eyes and Brows Travel Exclusive Kit here is what you will find:

- Clinique All About Eyes Eye Gel (7ml/deluxe sample)
- Clinique Lash Power Mascara in Black Onyx (5.5ml/full size)
- Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Deep Brown (full size)
- Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in 01 Bountiful Beige (full size)

Does Self Tanner Stop You From Tanning Naturally

I'm willing to bet that at some point or other we have all pondered if self tanning can prevent the skin from tanning naturally? Applying a light layer of self tan before jetting off to somewhere sunny has becomes somewhat of a ritual for many (myself included), if you have ever worried that by doing so you have minimised your chances of achieving a natural tan let me put your mind at ease.

Self tanner typically does not contain SPF of any type therefore it does not protect the skin full stop, the sun rays can still penetrate and damage the skin regardless to how many coats you apply. All self tanning does is artificially tint the skin, when the tanner washes or fades off your natural skin tone will be revealed once more. Think of it like this, you apply a SPF free foundation on a sunny day, does your skin still tan or burn as normal? Yes - well self tanning is the exact same, it will not shield you from the sun full stop. If you burn or tan the process will be identical and this is why you should always apply SPF over self tanner to protect the skin.

While we are on the topic of the sun and self tanning I do want to mention that the chlorine in the pool and the salt in the sea will strip and fade any tanning product (the same applies with darker hair colours too), so you may want to pack a gradual tanner or an instant tanning product. I personally recommend packing an instant tanner as you can also even up any tan lines or in my case match the bottom of my legs to the rest of my body. There has to be a scientific reason as to why my the bottom of my legs never tan?

So to answer the question, once and for all - yes you can still achieve a natural tan when wearing self tanner.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Sorbet Eau de Toilette

Each year I look forward to the launch of the new and limited edition Marc Jacobs Daisy launches, forever bright, beautiful and that's just the packaging. If you are a fan of light, floral and somewhat fruity scents then you need to try Marc Jacobs Daisy Sorbet Eau de Toilette.

"Dewey, fresh and fun, daisy eau so fresh Marc Jacobs sorbet edition evokes happiness with a sweet blend of fruity florals. The fragrance sparkles with effervescent notes of juicy mandarin and apple blossom. Fresh magnolia and wet violet bloom as they mingle with creamy woods to leave a lingering dry down."

Not only is the bottle rather cute and dare say it collectable but the scent inside is rather heavenly too. If you are familiar with any of the past limited edition Marc Jacobs Daisy editions this juicy, bright uplifting fruity come floral concoction shall not disappoint. A blend of Pink Grapefruit, Pear, Passion Fruit, Jasmine Petals and Violet Wood - slightly sweet, a little floral and very refreshing. Despite being a light care free scent this wears well on the skin and is as ideal for a night on the tiles as it is a family BBQ or even a day at the office. Most surprisingly Marc Jacobs Daisy Sorbet Eau de Toilette is super long wearing, it clings to both the clothing and skin all day long without overwhelming and become sickly.

Where to Find Great Cosmetic Bags

I get asked fairly frequently where my make-up bags are from, as I don't believe in spending an arm and a leg on something that will inevitably house a spill or two - you can almost bet any bag I own will be from the UK high street. Sure I own a few Whistles leather pouches (oh fancy) which I do treasure (perhaps a little too tightly) but if I can get a pretty cosmetic bag for a few pounds, I am more than happy. Here is my selection of where I hit up for bags of the make-up kind and why you should to...

Where to Find Great Cosmetic Bags

ASOS - The lazy gal's choice, a whole range of brands all under one umbrella which can be delivered to your home in as little as 24 hours. I tend to purchase either ASOS's own brand bags (this super cute fast food version is sitting in my basket as we speak - link) but would also recommend checking out the brand Catseye if you like cute animal prints. It was also ASOS that I found my super cute cereal bags.

eBay - Oddly not an obvious choice as the options can be overwhelming, however if you know exactly what you are looking for eBay can save you a pretty penny. For instance I really wanted a black, cat make-up bag - a quick search using the key words "black cat bag" and the exact item I had in mind springs up for just 99p. The only downside is that some of the bargains do come from the other side of the world so you may find yourself waiting up to a month for your purchase to arrive.

H&M - If monochrome and minimalist make-up bags that are well priced (normally well under £10) is what your heart desires then this should be your next stop. I don't recommend ordering online as it is unreliable and slow but they can often be found in most H&M stores.

Forever 21 - Fun, funky and exceedingly affordable, not to mention that the bags and pouches come in several sizes and shapes. Quite frequently the brand offers Barbie collaborations within their beauty range as well as money saving multi-packs. Forever 21 is also a great stop for travel storage for items such as sturdy make-up cases. As a side note do also check out their cute compact mirrors, I have a good few that really come in handy for day to day use.

Where to Find Great Cosmetic Bags

Freebies - Nope, not some up and coming brand you've yet to hear of but rather the free make-up bags that often come with kits and of course gifts with purchases. A good few of my favourite beauty storage bags didn't cost me a penny! I've spoken about my love for the above Elemis cosmetic case in this post but have only come to discover that it is almost identical to this Anya Hindmarch Travel Case! The main difference? The Travel with Elemis Kit is £40 and comes with an array of travel sized products, the Anya Hindmarch Travel Case is £295 and arrives empty.

Primark - Much like Forever 21 the array of designs, sizes and purposes of make-up bags on offer is vast but never expensive. From dinky clutch bag options, to large hold everything pouches to sturdy travel cases you can bet Primark will have it for sale. This is my go to store for cosmetic cases as they are so well made and never cost for than £10 so you don't feel to guilty should you get bored and want to replace it. As a heads up,  my local store currently has tonnes of Disney themed wipe clean make-up bags that were selling like hotcakes as of yesterday.

I'm sure there are plenty of other options out there but whenever I want a new cosmetic bag or case for that matter the above retailers are my first port of call. If you can think of anywhere I have missed, or if you have found a great cosmetic bag recently do feel free to let me know as I do need some new pieces for travelling.
