A Note on Lush Soap

As a network of beauty lovers and bloggers, the majority of us will be no stranger to our local Lush store. The friendly staff, the sweet aromas and the fun products lure us in but just how often do you purchase soap? I'm talking old school style solid bars of soap? Most likely seldom, somewhere along the lines we have all ditched the loyal bar of soap in favour of liquid products: be it hand wash, facial wash or shower gel. As a young child I can recall how my Grandmother was a huge advocate of Imperial Leather Soap, the smell still takes me back - now our households are all anti-bacterial hand washes. Can we bring back the humble bar of soap?

A Note on Lush Soap

I know what you are thinking, there is a reason why we all ditched soap in droves - after a while it turns to mush and is less than appealing, no matter just how pretty your soap dish may be. Agreed! If like me your soap stash is predominately Lush soap, you will be surprised by just how easy it is to cut - smaller chunks get used quicker and will not spoil. Speaking of cutting soap, this is the ideal method for frequent travellers! Simply find your favourite soap formula and scent for your body or facial needs: cut off a small slice, wrap in a food bag and bingo you have a travel friendly shower product that will not leak!

A Note on Lush Soap

The reason I chose Lush soap over others is not only the vast range and beautiful designs - Lush offer everything from hand, body, hair and even face soaps but the formulations - all of which are free from Palm Oil and mostly Vegan (you will have to check per formula as it does vary). I also like that they are hand poured - keeping it old school! Lush also allow you to purchase sizes best for your needs, be it a small slice for one or a bumper, economy chunk for the entire family. As mentioned above the softer textures do allow me to cut and store at my own leisure, not something I can do with a typical slab from the Supermarket.

A Note on Lush Soap

Stuck for a little inspiration and/or perhaps don't know where to start within the expansive world of Lush soap? Let me help you out with a few of my personal favourites:

Lush Putty for Your Hands Soap - a gentle, non-foaming hand soap that soothes and calms, ideal for overworked and cracked hands. Equally wonderful for those with young children and sensitised skin.

Lush Sandstone Soap - think of this as a punchy, lemon fresh body wash that not only cleanses the skin but exfoliates too. Lush Sandstone contains real sand to gently polish the skin - it is like a trip to the beach minus the sunburn and ice cream calories in soap form.

Lush Rockstar Soap - Missing the candy sweet scent of Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel? Well this soap shares the same pear drop scent and can be used on the hands and body - the perfect Snow Fairy replacement.

Lush Figs and Leaves Soap - The do it all soap - not only does this smell incredible (fruity yet floral) but it cleanses, moisturises and exfoliates the skin in one quick step. It is so gentle that it can also be used on the face. If you are strapped for time but want fresh, comforted and soft skin this is the bar of soap you should take into the shower with you!

What are your thoughts? Is solid soap something you use daily or a beauty product you bypass completely - if so why? Or perhaps you are an avid Lush soap fanatic, if so please feel free to recommend me a soap or two!

Joules Cottage Herb Bath, Body and Candle Collection

You may be aware of Joules as a home and fashion retailer? In my opinion no-one does beautiful prints nor espadrille shoes quite like Joules and the quality is second to none, well the brand have recently expanded to include equally charming bath, body and candles to spruce up any home.

Joules Cottage Herb Bath, Body and Candle Collection

Now we have entered into Spring I find myself looking for light, uplifting yet fitting fragrances both for the body and home. At the moment I am spending a lot of time in my kitchen, enjoying the longer days and daydreaming of the long awaited Summer. Bizarrely I don't really light or want a candle within my kitchen (I have no real reason) until trailing the new Joules Cottage Herb scent. There is something utterly charming about having a matching candle, hand wash and lotion on display - almost twee and channelling the "Good Life" dare I say.

Joules Cottage Herb Bath, Body and Candle Collection

The scent Cottage Herb is ideal for the Spring and the kitchen full stop - it is fresh, uplifting yet herbal and every so woody with notes of vanilla, amber mixed with fresh garden herbs, fennel and a hint of citrus. It is like bringing the countryside home with you, minus the trail of dirt! The reason I like to keep the candle and hand products within my kitchen isn't purely due to aesthetics but I find the fragrance of Joules Cottage Herb gently cleanses away any lingering food smells - always a bonus when fish is involved! The scent is the same throughout the entire range of Joules Cottage Herb which includes shower gel, body lotion, hand lotion, hand wash, a reed diffuser and a candle. The packaging is beautiful and ideal for any room let alone a kitchen, the formulas are gentle on the skin yet effective. With a fairly budget friendly price range there really is something for everyone be it to treat yourself or another, or to simply spruce up a room.

At the moment there is 20% off of the entire Joules Cottage Herb range (discount applied at checkout) - prices range from £9.99 to £19.99 before discount - link.

Superdrug Vitamin E Shower Moisturiser

Admittedly I can be more than a little lazy when it comes to applying body moisturiser, I do begin with all the best intentions in the world but sometimes you just want to get dressed. I know you hear me? Last year was the boom of in shower moisturisers - a shower cleanser come skin hydrant, a great idea in theory but not all that well conducted in practice. I have tried many out of laziness and of course curiosity and who would have known that the best I would find would be an in house brand and cost less than £3. Yes Superdrug Vitamin E Shower Moisturiser is the best and quickest way to quickly add a dose of hydration to your skin with minimal effort.

To use you simply apply to wet skin after you have scrubbed down with your regular shower gel, massage in and rinse off. It really is as easy as that. It may seem a little gimmicky but I promise you it more than delivers, not to mention it is packed with natural Vitamin E which can help to protect against environmental damage and improve the skin's texture. The base of Superdrug Vitamin E Shower Moisturiser  is of course skin nourishing shea butter which also lends its scent to the product, Superdrug have coupled shea butter not only with Vitamin E but also chestnut extract to soothe, nourish and hydrate dried out skin.

Application is a little bizarre at first as it does somewhat feel like you are washing with body lotion, once you get over that initial hump, it is nothing but a pleasant experience. Does the Superdrug Vitamin E Shower Moisturiser deliver the same results as a body butter or oil? No but I doubt anyone expected quite that, on the plus side it does leave the skin far softer and supple than it would should you skip moisturising full stop. I use it daily within my morning shower and consider it to be a great time saver making it perfect for those strapped for time or even for your gym bag? At less than £3 you can't afford not to pick up one for stashing in your shower caddy!

Beauty Destination Guide - Glasgow

Anyone who lives in a large and somewhat touristy city, will most likely take for granted their surroundings and all that is all that is on offer on your doorstep. As you may or may not know I am from Glasgow, Scotland - a wonderful shopping destination, full stop; easy to navigate, with great public transport links and if I do so say myself on the whole, a happy and friendly place to be. I can't call myself a proud or helpful Glaswegian without sharing my favourite beauty haunts; some well known others not so much but all places well worth book marking for your next visit!

I have linked every store below direct to their map/location and opening times page for convenience.

Department Stores
Most major cities and towns for that matter have department stores but as stock, services and brands differ I wouldn't discount visiting a familiar store, even if it is just for the sake of comparison.

House of Fraser - As a beauty blogger I spend a lot of time perusing the beauty halls of this grand and utterly beautiful store. Here is where you will find the only Glasgow City Centre MAC counter as well as Tom Ford, NARS and just about every other beauty brand you can imagine. It is also in the House of Fraser where the Benefit Boutique  is located - this offers Benefit waxing and tanning. If a spot of tranquillity is what you desire you must visit the Clarins Spa which is house within this bustling store.

Debenhams - The Debenhams beauty hall may not be as vast as the House of Fraser but it is very well stocked and welcoming. From brands such as Dior, Urban Decay and Origins you will find it here. Debenhams Glasgow is the only place in which you will find an Illamasqua counter within the city. If you are looking for Korres products or keen to find a new fragrance this is where I recommend you head.

John Lewis - Often forgotten (yay for finding that sold out shade) but it is not to be missed, all your favourite brands under one roof. I particularly find the Origins staff to be helpful and knowledgeable. There is also a Sisley make-up counter which I find to be pretty few and far between in Glasgow.

Hidden Gems

Lesser known beauty haunts but perhaps a little more special for that very reason...

Swoon Nails - Lia is a local hero amongst all us nail fans, she will polish, preen and create the most fantastic Calgel nail designs you can imagine, coupled with a lovely chat. Check out the Swoon Nails Instagram account for inspiration.

Absolut Hair - Hidden somewhat on Sauchiehall Street is Absolut Hair, this is my hairdresser of choice - I'm never fussed who does my hair here as all the staff are beyond talented and friendly. The price list is more than reasonable and they do offer student discounts.

Space NK - Admittedly Space.NK is not a rarity within the UK but the Glasgow store is tucked away within Princes Square, you may fail to know it exists. It is a fairly dinky store but it stocks all the brands you would expect and is generally a joy to visit.

Peaches Wax Bar - For all your waxing and brow needs, seriously look no further! A bunch of friendly and talented ladies that will leave you feeling at ease from the moment you walk in the door. This is also the place to go for eyelash treatments such as LVL lashes!

Yankee Scotland - We all know I love a good candle or ten, there is no better place to fit in all your Yankee candle needs than Yankee Scotland located within the St.Enoch Centre. The store is so well laid out, stocked with all the latest fragrance launches as well as firm favourites - needless to say I visit frequently.

The Best of...

When I am visiting one of the more well known beauty hot spots within the city these are the locations I head to.

Best Boots store within the city centre - My Boot of preference is Boots store within Buchanan Galleries, this is perhaps the largest of its kind in the hub of Glasgow but don't let that put you off. It is well stocked, clean and well staffed. As it is large it has an array of luxury/premium brands too.

Best Superdrug within the city centre - Perhaps not the obvious choice but I recommend visiting the Superdrug store on Sauchiehall Street. It is so swish, stocked with just about every brand that you'd imagine Superdrug to stock, the testers are clean and it is never packed to the rafters. It is also a travel clinic in which you can book vaccinations and get general health advice.

Best Spa in city centre - Without a doubt, I have to recommend the Spa at Blytheswood Square - pricey but worth every penny. It is a beautiful location, offers up great treatments and a relaxation pool, not to mention the staff are both knowledgeable and friendly. If I could live here I would.

Now over to you; if you are a fellow Glaswegian or regular dweller, do let me know what you'd add to the list and why? Let's turn the comments into an instant beauty guide for those visiting!

On a separate note, I am looking to make this a regular feature with cities not only within the UK but worldwide. If you'd like to write a post on your stomping ground and have it featured, please email me on thesundaygirlblog(at)yahoo.co.uk with the subject line Beauty Destination Guide and we can discuss it further. I look forward to hearing from you!

New Beauty Launches May 2015

In a matter of days it will be May and with the new month it brings a lot of brand new launches. If you are looking for an excuse to treat yourself to something beautiful, may I suggest that you hold off a few days as there is some wonderful new products to be explored.

New Beauty Launches for May

First up we have the limited edition St.Tropez Travel Pouch which not only features the most beautiful quilted cosmetic bag but also two travel sized products: St.Tropez Tan Enhancing Moisturiser and Tan Enhancing Scrub. The best part? It is free with any St.Tropez purchase via Boots, in-store up until the 12th of May and online from the 6th of May to the 2nd of June.

New Beauty Launches for May

I have reviewed the new Origins Mini Facial Brush in full here - link but wanted to flag it up again as I do really believe it is great value for money. At only £5 it offers a deep yet gentle cleanse and allows you full control of pressure. This goes on counter and online on the 1st of May.

Another new and early May launch is the arrival of Lancome Shine Lover Lipsticks (£21 each), which come in 20 shades. Think great pigment levels coupled with a beautifully hydrating and glossy formulation - they are a joy to apply and wear. My personal favourite out of the huge shade range has to be shade 212 which is a muted pink come brown - if you enjoy MAC Brave lipstick but want something a lighter lighter in texture this should be your next purchase.

New Beauty Launches for May

Launching on counter (but already online) is the latest Dior Collection - Tie Die Collection which not only features two of the most beautiful blushes (I'm hopefully picking them up this weekend) but an array of visually stunning and creamy lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes. If you are in the market for a new lipstick you need to check out the new Dior Tie Dye Lipsticks, six shades to choose from, comfortable and beyond luxurious. You can shop the collection via Harrods - link.

On a budget? Aren't we all? Well May sees the launch of Collection Long Lasting Lipstick shades, the new additions are mostly nude in tone and 90's inspired but there is a few bright's such as coral to suit all tastes and complexions. At just £2.99 they are a great find, admittedly not the most nourishing but they wear well and the colour selection is incredible. To coincide there is also an array of new Collection Long Lasting Nail Polishes which promise up to seven days of wear. I have yet to put them to the test but can vouch that the shades are utterly beautiful and a snip at less than £3.

New Beauty Launches for May

As most will know May is the month Make Up For Ever finally hits the UK via Debenhams, the launch date is pencilled in for the 19th of May. Although it will not be going into every Debenhams store it will be online which is just as exciting if you ask me. I can not wait to see the full line up and of course purchase a few pieces.

New Beauty Launches for May

One last new collection, well for now at least! Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Collection which is due to land in June - a line up of both cream blushes and oil infused lip tints. The Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil Balms have of course been infused with oil - vitamin E and Jojoba no less to provide moisture and comfort, The Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Blush Balms are silky, buildable but sadly limited edition. A great addition to any make-up bag.

May is shaping up to be an exciting month, wouldn't you agree?
Look out for full reviews coming your way in a matter of days.

No7 Early Defence Skincare

Just under a month ago a new skin care range from No7 aimed at those in their 20's launched - No7 Early Defence Skincare and it has all I have been using. Affordable with anti-ageing technology that will not overwhelm younger skin and most importantly, I feel it actually works. I say works, I don't have must to compare it to, the tricky part with being young (I'm in my twenties) is that most of don't have any visual signs of ageing. I have two whisper, thin expression lines of my forehead and that is it but on the plus side I do feel that they are less noticeable and on the whole my skin feels more supple and dare I say it bouncy - yes really! I haven't consumed any more water than usual nor have I changed my diet, yet my skin is far more plump which leads me to believe it has been the work of the No7 Early Defence Skincare range.

As we have all come to know and notice, most anti-ageing products are aimed at those over 35. Those with younger complexions may feel that the technology or texture of such lotions and potions are too rich for their skin type - I know that I do and often pass up anti-ageing products purely on this basis. I also worry that if I use such intense anti-ageing in my twenties , when I do reach my thirties and beyond that my skin will be used to strong anti-ageing technology that they won't be beneficial? There is no definitive proof but if we can grow accustom to anti-biotics and other medications I don't see how our skin will or can be any different. If you are young, I'd say a gently gently approach is the best which is where the No7 Early Defence Skincare collections comes in. Three products targeted at young complexions that won't break the bank.

No7 Early Defence Skincare

First up we have the No7 Early Defence Day Cream  (£19.50), this not only contains an SPF 15 to protect from the harmful UV rays but also Lipopeptides and Vitamin A - to help reduce the appearance of fine lines. This is all within a thick yet oddly lightweight cream texture that is quickly absorbed and really comfortable on the skin. It is non-greasy and somewhat illuminating without the need for shimmer particles. I would say this is suitable for all but those with particularly dry skin may want to team it with a serum for added hydration.  A great everyday moisturiser that  I would recommend to all in their twenties and even teens - it protects, prevents and nourishes, all for less than £20!

For night use we have No7 Early Defence Night Cream (£19.50) which is again is  lightweight, only the texture is more akin with a gel - cooling, hydrating and dare I say it a somewhat relaxing product. Again this contains both Lipopeptides and Vitamin A to keep the first signs of ageing at bay a little longer. The general conciseness is that by using both the night and day creams, the skin is not only protected from environmental damage but encouraged to somewhat self repair. Much like the day cream I would state that the No7 Early Defence Night Cream is suitable for just about every skin type, I do like to team this with a layer of facial oil before use just for a little extra hydration and repair as may those with dry complexions. The good news is that it doesn't overwhelm even the oiliest of skins nor has it broken out or further irritated my acne prone skin. It takes a lot for me to say this but I can hand on heart say that this is the best night cream I have found for my age group and would gently nudge all those within my age group and younger to make the investment. My skin has never looked fresher and as mentioned above my expression lines have somewhat been plumped out.

No7 Early Defence Skincare

Eye cream is also another tricky skin care category to nail when you are younger - I find that an abundance of anti-ageing eye creams are far too rich for my needs and never fully absorb! Well not Boots No7 Early Defence Eye Creamthis is a light, silky lotion that quickly absorbs without leaving behind any residue nor is it in anyway greasy. Much like the above creams this also contains Lipopeptides and Vitamin A line up to protect the skin and prevent lines from forming, as it is an eye product a little vitamin C has been added to reduce dark circles and puffiness. I have been using this day and night without any complaints - it does not irritate nor sting my eye area and it is ideal for applying make-up on top off. If I had one criticism it would be that I would have liked it to contain SPF for day wear but then again I do have an unnatural obsession with SPF! At just £13.50 I recommend this to all looking to find a great but gentle anti-ageing eye cream.

Like most Boots No7 believe that prevention is better than a cure, the idea is that if you start looking after your skin when you are young you will have less problems as you age. I can not recommend the No7 Early Defence Skincare  Collection enough - affordable with great ingredients and results. If you have young skin make this your next purchase!

New No7 Early Defence Skincare Review

Is It Safe to Use Last Years SPF?

As a worrier; I'm the sort of person that will find something to fret about, anything, I run on a constant nervous energy - I find myself mulling over somewhat mundane things. Counter productivity at its best but on the upside I do tend to have answers for things that most will never ponder. While clearing out I found a whole stash of half full bottles of sunscreen and instantly assumed that they would not be safe to use this coming Summer. Wrong!

Growing up, I won't beat around the bush we were not well off by any means - seven children will drain your resources quickly but one thing my Mother never skimped on was sunscreen. The smell and thick texture of Ambre Solaire SPF will always takes me back. Once the long, hot Glaswegian Summer was over (hopefully you can detect the sarcasm), all the white and orange bottles were quickly disposed off. Why? I have no real idea as most would still have lotion held within. This is a habit as an adult I have fallen trap to, only on a wider scale.

Whenever I go abroad I purchase a whole array of sunscreen options, use them daily and then leave them behind in my hotel before jetting back home. As much as I hate waste I don't want to try and push my half drained bottles on to strangers - even I draw the line there! In my head I believed that the sun would weaken the SPF factor, for that very reason I wouldn't purchase sunscreen in warm climates. What a waste of money and if I do say so myself bizarre reasoning! I

First of all SPF much like any cosmetic product has a use by date, it will be marked on the back of the bottle or can; look for a round container mark with an ajar lid - it will indicate how many months it will be effective for after use. Sunscreen is typically safe to use up to 36 months after opening - that date is not a gestimate for legal and health reasons. Next up and probably the reason I used to throw out sunscreen regularly - taking it to the beach nor having your SPF bottle in the sun will not affect the protection effectiveness. Before going on sale sunscreen undergoes a whole range of tests (in laymen's terms of course), not only to ensure that the chemical compounds are safe for the skin but also that it will not be affected by extreme temperatures nor UV rays. So no more burying your sun lotion in the sand (yes I really have done that), nor questioning if it is safe to purchase sunscreen in Spain (again a real life snippet).

If like myself you were in the habit of disregarding half used bottles of sunscreen each year for the same above reasons - don't! We now know that it is perfectly safe and effective to use as long as it is within the use by date. I have taken to labelling my large bottles of SPF with dates regarding the first us, thus cancelling out any future guess work - a little extreme but then again I've always enjoyed my label maker.

Waste not, want not...

Things I want to Buy

It's been a while since I have shared what I plan on purchasing come pay day. I'm justifying my hefty wishlist by telling myself that I deserve a few treats as I have cleared out my current stash and it is my birthday month - basically any excuse is a good excuse ha!

Have you seen the new Too Faced Selfie Finishing Powder Palette which contains three powders to mimic Instagram filters in real life. A little gimmicky yes but I do think that they will make beautiful soft focus setting powders come highlighters. It is yet to creep online here in the UK but when it does I'll be one of the first to click order.

The new and limited edition version of the D&G Light Blue fragrances launched yesterday (read my review here), I have been reaching for D&G Light Blue Sunset in Salina Eau de Toilette daily. It has made me realise just how much I enjoy D&G Light Blue Eau de Toilette on the whole, I may purchase a bottle and make it my Summer 2015 fragrance.

One other fragrance I am keen to add to my collection is Gucci by Gucci Eau de Toilette which is a light floral with hints of honey. Isn't the bottle just beautiful? As you can most likely tell I do have a penchant for fragrances - my collection is a little out of control!

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair II is not really a treat, more of an essential in my opinion! I use it nightly and go through the formula a little like water. I shouldn't have really added it to my wishlist as I will be purchasing a new shiny bottle next week, at least you know what products I am loyal to and where some of my money goes ha!

I will be sharing my beauty space/storage soon and one thing you will see is my small collection of Jo Malone candles - I am a little obsessed and often treat myself to a new scent. Admittedly it has been a while as I haven't been home much in the last few weeks, I do have plans to purchase Jo Malone Just Like Sunday Lavender and Lovage Candle to complete the set. It also seems like the perfect Spring/Summer scent - herbal yet slightly floral.

Launching next month via Space.NK is the Hourglass Ambient Light Bronzers, do I need another bronzer? Heck no but I am such a sucker for all things Hourglass I know that I will not be able to pass one of the shades up!

After reading that Khloe Kardashian swears by Tom Ford Lipstick in Sable Smoke I have decided that it will be the next lipstick I splurge on. A cool toned nude that somewhat channels that dusky nude lip J-Lo often rocks. I shall of course keep you posted!

Lastly I have been somewhat lusting after the new Laura Mercier Flawless Contour Palette, as someone who adores contouring and highlighting this cream based palette looks to have it all. I rather like that you can mix and blend the shades to create your own custom shade. It also appears to be the perfect size for travel.

Okay enable me, what currently tops your wishlist?

The Latest Lipstick Launches

I am tempted to say that 2015 is the year of the lipstick but then again we are only a quarter into the year so that is a little premature. None the less if you have yet to find your ideal lipstick formulation or even shade there is a whole onslaught on newly released and yet to be launched lipsticks, something is sure to catch your eye!

The Latest Lipstick Launches

New Nudes
Everyone needs a good nude lipstick in their collection, the perfect everyday shade that will take you from day to night - every make-up bag needs at least one. Fans of MAC Hue Lipstick need to seek out the latest Max Factor Elixir Lipstick in Simply Nude. A silky soft formula with super moisturising ingredients such as shea, avocado and aloe butters, at just £7.99 you need this. Clinique have just launched a trio of lipstick shades aimed at brides to be - Clinique Long Lasting Lipsticks. My personal favourite has to be Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Honeymoon (£15.75 exclusive to John Lewis). This is a light bronze come pink that has been created for bridal wear but is a great everyday nude option - it is fairly sheer but moisturising and utterly flattering, well worth seeking out. Lastly is the new Lancome Shine Lover Lipsticks (£21 each) which comes in 20 shades, think great pigment levels coupled with a beautifully hydrating formulation and light shine finish. My personal favourite out of the huge shade range has to be shade 212 which is a muted pink come brown - if you enjoy MAC Brave lipstick but want something a lighter lighter in texture this should be your next purchase. Look out for them launching in May.

The Latest Lipstick Launches

New Mattes
Gone are the days in which matte lipstick instantly equated to dried out lips, formulas have been improved tenfold in the last few years. Two of my favourite new-ish matte lipstick launches have to be the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipsticks (£21) and Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks (£8.99). The Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipsticks come in five shades and deliver not only a dose of pigment but also moisturise. There is not a more comfortable matte lipstick out there, I can promise you that. On the more budget friendly spectrum - the three new shades of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks are not to be missed, admittedly not the most hydrating of formulations but you can bet on them staying in place all day long. If I could recommend one shade it would be Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks in 10 Don't Pink of It - a great dusky nude come pink hue.

Moisturising Formulas
After a long and dreary Winter much like the rest of my body my lips are craving a little extra TLC and hydration, I have three perfect formulas for all budgets. My personal favourite and current go to moisturising lipsticks have to be the new Clinique Pop Lipsticks (£16) - a vast array of shades, that glide on to the lips, nourishing and priming as they go. Each shade (16 shades in total) is buttery soft, beautifully pigmented, has a gel like consistency and thanks to the added primer wears comfortably for a good three to four hours. For a little touch of luxe I recommend the somewhat newly launched Burberry Kisses Lipsticks (£25) - sheer yet not overly so, comfortable and utterly moisturising. I like to think of the Burberry Kisses Lipsticks as suped up tinted lip balms - a must for the Summer! On a budget? Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Edition Liquid Lipsticks (£8.99) are the one for you - a light, non-sticky liquid formula that offers all the sheen of a gloss with all the pigment of a lipstick. They are extremely comfortable to wear not to mention cooling.

Limited Editions
Bobbi Brown have just launched a collection of seven formulations - one for everyday of the week, dubbed the Monday to Sunday Lips collection. With new, old and improved textures and shades I am utterly confident that you will find at least one shade to enjoy. As most will be aware next month sees the launch of Make Up For Ever within the UK and I am hopefully a few lipstick selections will make the cut. Lastly we have MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick (£15.50) which has been around for a few months now but may just be your ideal bright, pop of pink - not to mention a huge chunk of proceeds from every sale goes to charity.

Something Fancy
We all deserve a treat now and then and the next three lipstick launches are just that - luxurious and something you will look forward to applying each and every time. First up we have the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Shine Lipsticks  (£25), the glossier and altogether lighter version of the original Pure Color Envy Lipstick line. They glide on to the lips which ease, offer up a light dose of pigment and moisture,  all the while wearing true for at least three hours. Laura Mericer have just expanded their Creme Smooth Lipstick collection (£21) by seven shades - think dusky nudes and super wearable pinks. Perhaps not all that new a launch but worth a mention none the less is the NARS Audacious Lipstick  (£24) line - creamy, well pigmented, long wearing and beyond luxurious. The colour range is vast and inspired by screen icons, you may well just find your own name to collect. The classier version of the share a Coke campaign?

Budget Friendly Options
Proving that you don't have to spend a small fortune to enjoy a new lipstick or two is Zoeva's Luxe Cream Lipstick (£7.50) - a super creamy, hydrating and almost gel like formula that comes in nine very wearable shades. If you are familiar with YSL Rouge Volupte Lipsticks and really enjoy the formula this is the budget dupe for you. Launching in May is the new Collection Long Lasting Lipstick shades, much like the above Laura Mercier range the new additions are mostly nude and 90's inspired but there is a few bright's such as coral to suit all tastes and complexions. At just £2.99 they are a great find, admittedly not the most nourishing but they wear well and the colour selection is incredible.

I really should have titled this post lipstick p0rn!

Limited Edition Supersize Origins GinZing Moisturiser

We all have products we intend on purchasing and never do, if Origins GinZing Moisturiser is the one for you then the time is now. Not only has it been given a swish, limited edition make-over but also it comes in a bumper size. For just £2 more you get 25ml extra product - the perfect excuse to stock up or even try this now somewhat cult moisturiser for the first time.

I like to think of Origins GinZing Moisturiser as a morning wake up call - it not only promises to kick start you skin’s natural radiance levels but give a does of hydration to boot. Tired skin will be a thing of the past after you discover this sweetly scented gel!

As you may know I generally have oily skin and I do favour gel formulations for day wear, they give the skin a light dose of moisture without overwhelming my skin nor encouraging it to produce excess oil throughout the day. Admittedly Origins GinZing Moisturiser may not best suited to sensitive skin due to the high concentrate of fragrant oils, there is no disputing that Origins GinZing smells utterly divine - a bright, sunny and realistic orange come grapefruit scent. I'm a huge advocate of aromatherapy and I firmly believe that both zesty fragrance notes can help to put a little pep in your step. In fact everything about this moisturiser makes me smile from the scent, the texture, to the golden amber glass jar - it is the skin care equivalent of jarred sun rays!

So what does Origins GinZing Moisturiser contain? A blend of panax ginseng as well as caffeine (which have been derived from coffee beans), to aid the optimisation of cellular energy and help condition and repair the skin in one quick step. This time around Origins have skipped out on any anti-ageing technology to help keep the new addition more pocket friendly and have focused their attention on creating a light, water based formula that will give the skin a friendly boost of radiance ( a glow if you will) without the need for illuminating particles nor is it greasy in the slightest. The perfect everyday moisturiser and first step into Origins skin care!

Origins GinZing Moisturiser - it softens, it hydrates, it illuminates and I rather like it!

You can find the Origins Limited Edition GinZing Moisturiser (75ml) for £25 via Origins - link.

For the second instalment of Teen Talk, I hand over to my younger sister to talk all things stretch marks...

Teen stretch marks were not something I considered to be possible, like most I believed that they were reserved for older and most likely pregnant women? Then with a sudden growth spurt I noticed almost purple and angry looking marks on my hips last year. Oh hello stretch marks, nice of you to the party!

Stretch marks are the result of the skin suddenly stretching often due to growth, weight gain or rather oddly weight loss. The middle layer of skin (dermis) fractures in places, as a result the red/purple lines on the skin are the deeper layers of the dermis shining through. Before you panic like I did, rest assure they are completely normal and in most instances unavoidable; as a matter of a fact some of us are more genetically prone to stretch marks than others. The lines that form due to stretch marks can form both vertically and horizontally and are some what common within all teenagers, yes even males too! Any age, any size and any skin tone can develop stretch marks and of course that includes celebrities. Recently model Christie Teigen (image above) shared her stretch marks on instagram - proving once and for all that even celebrities have normal and very human imperfections.

So now we know how and to some extent they why but what can we do to reduce and prevent (to the best of our ability of course, sometime genetics are against us). The answer really is as simple: moisturising and exfoliation - keeping the skin supple and hydrated can allow the skin to expand without breaking to crudely put it. As oils tend to penetrate the dermis deeper than a standard body butter or lotion these are your best bet. In my household we swear by Bio Oil but there are many other more budget friendly products out there that do a similar job such as: Palmers Skin Therapy Oil and Superdrug Restore Skin Oil, or even Vitamin E Oil. As a matter of a fact Vitamin E oil can help to fade stretch marks a little quicker as can Rosehip Oil. In the same vain keeping hydrated inwardly is equally important, if possible do try and gulp, sip and swig the daily recommend water quota intake.

Yes stretch marks can affect your confidence, the good news is that over time they will fade and can often be practically invisible. Like I have said above they are one hundred percent normal and I'm sure many people you know will have a few silver lines on their body too. If you do want to somewhat camouflage your stretch marks I have found a little self tanner to work wonders, or even body foundation such as Vichy Dermablend Body Foundation. For a more permanent fix you can exfoliate your body daily (or just the affected areas), to speed up the skin renewal process and of course to a degree resurface the area. Yes there are more medical approaches such as laser treatments and dermabrasion. As I have no knowledge of either I can not personal recommend them as an option, what I can say is that it a normal skin problem and you are not alone.

If you have any tips or tricks, or perhaps advice in regards to stretch marks?

Origins Mini Facial Brush

We all know that manual facial brushes aren't anything new, far from it - I think I bought one as a teen a few years back from The Body Shop? With the fairly recent arrival of electronic facial cleansing devices such as the Clarisonic et al, I have noticed the prices slowly creep up - less than ideal if you are not sure the process is suited to your needs or skin type. Well perhaps the answer you have been looking for is the new Origins Mini Facial Brush which will cost a mere £5 - kudos to Origins for not only seeing the gap in the market for such tool but also making it so affordable.

The Origins Facial Brush is a hand held brush that is fairly small in size which is not at all a criticism. I rather like that it is both dinky and soft, the size means I can easily target the areas I want to gently exfoliate and the soft bristles do not further irritate my acne/inflamed skin. If you find facial scrubs to be irritating and/or don't want to splash out on an expensive electric facial brush, this is what you have been waiting for. Used with your normal cleanser this gently removes any dead and dry skin cells gently revealing brighter skin and if you ask me almost offers up a spa like experience. As the bristles are so soft and flexible for that matter, I'd say it is almost impossible to over do it - great if you are heavy handed like myself! It also cleans up beautifully which is not something I can say for all cleansing brushes. I also like that it has a nifty cap to keep the bristles clean when not in use and to keep it safe when travelling.

Typically I use the Origins Mini Facial Brush once a week - anything more is a little overwhelming for my skin type. A weekly treatment allows me to gently but deeply cleanse my skin and has not resulted in a purge or any type of irritation what so ever.At just £5 you owe it to yourself to give this a whirl when it launches on the 1st of May, if it turns out you don't like it for facial use you could also use it to scrub your feet and/or nails.

Make Up Discussion - Too Scared to Use

If you follow me on Instagram (shameless plug @TheSundayGirlUK), then you may have noticed I am slowly but surely de-cluttering my make-up stash. To make more room for new and exciting products? Most likely - I guess you know me too well ha! Anyway while clearing out I noticed I have accumulated a few products that I spent more money than I should have on and have yet to use for some reason or other.

Make Up Discussion - Too Scared to Use

For instance we have MAC Brooke Shields Palette (limited edition), an assortment of neutral toned eyeshadows that will take me from night to day that I spent an arm and leg on last October and have yet to as much as swatch. Why? It is too pretty to use, which makes no sense - if I don't use it like all other make-up products it will spoil. Surely if it is too pretty to use it is too pretty to waste? Under the exact same pretence we have the Clarins The Essentials Eyeshadow Palette which was launched just before Christmas last year. Unlike the MAC palette I don't even have the pretence that it is super limited edition and can not be repurchased as it is still up for grabs on both the Debenhams and John Lewis sites. Utterly ridiculous on my part. Speaking of being absurd I also have an untouched MAC The Simpsons palette - an array of bright blue and purple tones that I will less than likely ever reach for.

Make Up Discussion - Too Scared to Use

The good news is that I have an extremely pushy younger sister who believes in waste not, want not and will take any product away from me in which I am hoarding purely to admire. We all need a kick up the behind, time to time. I promise as of today I will make use of at least one of the neutral palettes above and re-home the others. On the plus side I don't tend to hoard products purely based on packaging...it's not much of an upside but it is a start.

Now over to you, tell me I am not alone - I know some of you must have products squirrelled away in which you have yet to pluck up the courage to use?

Make Up For Ever UK Launch Date

I have somewhat stepped away from publishing launch dates but one make-up line I could not bypass is of course Make Up For Ever. The good news is that it is hitting Debenhams in a matter of days (the 19th of May is the rumoured UK launch date), the downside is that I have no real idea of what products will make the UK cut. I am all but praying that Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash and the Make Up For Ever HD Powder will be stocked in Debenhams - I am assuming it will be the best sellers so expect foundation and concealers to be readily available.

I will pop up a post on my top Make Up For Ever recommendations in the coming days, once I know what will be stocked within the UK but until then here is the official blurb...

"The exuberant and colourful brand MAKE UP FOR EVER is coming to the UK this Spring.
Part of the LVMH group, this multifaceted professional brand has been created by Dany SANZ in 1984, in the aim of forming new make-up artists and answering their needs. Recognized as THE brand of the backstage, MAKE UP FOR EVER is used every single day on movie sets, fashion or photo shoots, and the Make Up For ever academies all around the world. The high-tech formulas are on the cutting edge of innovation and are the centre of attention. Everything goes into the product performance, and all of the creative energy of the MAKE UP FOR EVER teams is concentrated on the effectiveness of the formulas, the comfort of the textures and the choice of the colours. “For Pros, for You, for Ever” is the baseline of the brand, because what is practical for a make-up artist, makes it easy to use for a consumer, so the brand is really accessible and appreciated by the public. Launching in DEBENHAMS and Debenhams.com SPRING 2015."

Are you excited? I belive I uttered at long last when the news was confirmed!
What products are you hoping to see within Debenhams?

The Real Techniques Brush Collection

I should begin this post by stating I think and I say think (edit - after individually listing the brushes, I am missing one from Nik's Picks and the Duo Fibre brushes), I own the complete Real Techniques Core Collection of brushes - along with a few special editions. It was never my end goal to collect all the brushes but here we are. I genuinely do think they are some of the best I have bought, especially for the price and do tend to rush out and purchase any new launches. If you are on the fence about any particular brush or set, in the words of Lauryn Hill let me break it down for you...

Real Techniques Stippling Brush £10.99 via Feel Unique - link
Real Techniques Setting Brush £6.99 via Feel Unique - link

Let's begin with the Real Techniques Multi-Task Brush - a large, fluffy and slightly fanned brush that has been created with the intended use of being powder brush. This can be used with blush, setting powder or bronzer. I personally like it for covering large areas and have been using it with setting powder. As it is somewhat flat it doesn't offer all that much in terms of precision, I don't recommend it for contouring or highlighting but to dust on powder and buff into the skin you can not beat it. The Real Techniques Blush Brush is a big, fluffy yet tapered brush which makes blush application a breeze. I particularly like this brush as sometimes I like to use a matte blush in a browny pink shade, to not only add a  hint of colour but to also contour my cheekbones slightly, and the tapered tip gives me the precision I crave. Another firm favourite of mine happens to be the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, initially I thought that the stippling brush was too small too be used to apply my foundation but I wrong, despite being petite it allows me to effectively and swiftly buff liquid foundation into my skin. Lastly we have the Real Techniques Setting Brush: a small, somewhat tapered blush that has been created for precision; be it dusting setting powder under the eye area or as a blush/contour brush this tool does it all.

Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush (part of the core collection kit) £20.99 - link

For all your setting powder needs there is very few brushes that can rival the Real Techniques Powder Brush - large, fluffy and ideal for sweeping on both loose and pressed powders. A brush I really need to get a duplicate of is the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - yes it is a little on the large side but it lends itself to all my powder needs, be it setting powder, blush, bronzer or even contouring this does it all. In a pinch it even doubles up as a great foundation brush. The Real Techniques Detailer Brush: a small, rounded and flat brush that works well either used with concealer to target very specific areas or as a lip brush. In my opinion it works best with lipsticks but then again I forever have huge blemishes. If you enjoy highlighting and contouring then you need to pick up the Real Techniques Contour Brush - this angled brush allows you to apply a light dusting of powder to the contours of the face, or blend out cream products seamlessly. Next up is the Real Techniques Buffing Brush - in my eyes this is a foundation brush and what a brush at that. If you dream of an airbrush finish then this is the brush to go for. It truly makes light work of buffering foundation be it liquid, cream or powder form into the skin for a seamless finish. I tend to be a little heavy handed when it comes to foundation and I find that this brush prevents me from over applying yet doesn't alter the finish of my foundation. You can also use it to apply cream blushes for a soft, glowy finish - it works a dream with the Make-Up Forever Cream blushes as a side note. Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush - In my opinion this is too small to be a foundation brush unless using it for a touch up or something of that nature, other wise the small flat paddle style brush would take forever to cover an entire face. I have found this to better suited to concealer be it applying it to the under eye area, to highlight or to simply cover blemishes this has it all under control. It is soft yet firm so you can easily build up coverage in any areas you require it.

Real Techniques Brow Brush (part of the starter kit) £21.99 via Boots - link
Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush £5.99 via Feel Unique - link
Real Techniques Eye Lash and and Brow Groomer £6.99 via Superdrug - link

The Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush - large, domed, soft and great for applying both primer and cream eyeshadow - I find this too large for powder eyeshadows but that boils down to preference. The Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush - perfect not only for blending out harsh lines but also contouring in small areas. The Real Techniques Accent Brush - a teeny tiny brush that has been created for precision detailing (eye liner) , highlighting, you can also use it to smudge out product. I like to use it to apply eyeshadow to my lower lash line. The Real Techniques Fine Liner Brush is a super fine, pencil style brush that is ideal for applying liquid and cream eye liner. You can also use this in place of a lip brush. The Real Techniques Brow Brush does just what you'd imagine to, the firmness of the bristles is ideal for both powder and wax formulations. The latest addition is the the rather genius The Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush, technically not r a brush due to the fact it has no brush bristles, rather a soft silicone nib that can be used to line both the eyes and lips. Despite not being a traditional brush it is just as soft and dare I say it a whole lot easier to use when it comes to eye liner as it is so streamlined and sturdy - simply dip in your chosen make up product and drag alone the skin and let it do all the work for you. As this is silicone it is so much easier to clean and it doesn't stain like a typical brush. There is of course the Real Techniques Eye Lash and and Brow Groomer - one side for combing the lashes the other for slicking down brows. If like myself you enjoy layering on mascara the metal lash comb is one of the best de-clumpers (not a real word, of course) you will find.

Sculpting Tools
Real Techniques Fan Brush (exclusive to the sculpting set) £20.99 via Superdrug - link
Real Techniques Sculpting Brush £9.99 via Look Fantastic - link
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (around £5.99 but sold out everywhere?)

The Real Techniques Fan Brush is a large, duo fibre fan brush that picks up powder product surprisingly well. I use fan brushes (this one included) to highlight as they help to create a soft, diffused finish but they can be used with any powder product. Fan brushes in general and this is no exception are great for sweeping off any excess powder products too! One of my favourite Real Techniques Brushes full stop has to be the Sculpting Brush - a wide, angled brush head that has been designed to easily slot into the contours of the face. It is a soft yet dense and pairs well with liquid, powder and cream products. Despite being intended for contour products this doubles up as a wonderful foundation/buffing brush. As mentioned above the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is a tricky one to source online, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is rather well made and thought out not to mention rather reasonably priced. This orange foam sponge has three separate surfaces/angles for ease of use: a pointed tip to blend foundation in and around the nose, a bevelled edge for precise application/contouring and a large round surface to roll on any product to cover large areas at any one time. To use you run the sponge under water until it expands (it should double in size), squeeze out any excess water and then sandwich the sponge in-between a towel and again squeeze to soak up any remaining water. You are aiming for a damp sponge that is not dripping wet. An odd concept yes but it somehow works.

Real Techniques Nik's Picks Kit
£26.99 via Look Fantastic - link

As mentioned somewhere along the way I have lost the Real Techniques Angled Shadow Brush - don't ask as frankly I don't know. Anyway this is a kit in which most of the brushes can not be purchased separately - unlike the other Real Technique kits this covers all make-up bases. A rounder, softer version of the Expert Face Brush - great for powder and liquid products. Next we have the Real Techniques Cheek Brush - a larger sized blush brush that is soft yet picks up just the right amount of product each and every time. This is a great brush to use with blushes you find to be a little too pigmented as it creates a diffused, soft look each and every time. The Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush is a flat yet fluffy brush which can be used to both pack on eye colour as well as blending - a brush I use almost daily. Lastly within the kit there is the eye liner brush - a small, angled, firm brush which is ideal for using with gel or liquid liners. The angled tip allows you to really get into the root of the eyelashes for the illusion of extra length.

Retractable Brushes
Retractable Bronzer Brush £13.99 via Boots - link
Retractable Kabuki Brush £11.99 via Boots - link
Retractable Lip Brush £7.99 via Boots - link

As you may have guessed all three are retractable and come with a brush cap to keep them safe and clean - perfectly ideal for travel. Truthfully other than the lip brush I very seldom reach for the other two. The Real Techniques Retractable Lip Brush is ideal for storing in the smallest of bags, if like myself you are known for loosing your favourite lipstick on a night out this is one to buy. Simply load the brush head up with lipstick, pop the cap on and you have not only your favourite lipstick ready to go but also the option of precision. The Real Techniques Retractable Lip Brush is well made, flat but slightly tapered so you can line and fill the lips in a matter of seconds. The Real Techniques Retractable Bronzer Brush is essentially a large duo fibre stippling brush, I don't recommend using with liquid products but for applying bronzer to the body it is ideal - it covers large areas with ease. The Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush which is a multi-tasking brush if ever there was one - soft yet dense and akin to the brands staple blush brush. The angled head allows you to easily and dare I say it expertly apply powder products to the cheeks - being chiselled means it works wonderfully with contouring products as it allows for precise application. It can also be used with liquid products to easily buff the product into the skin for a seamless application.

To end this monster post (it literally took me all day), I want to say that all of my Real Techniques brushes not only wash well - no splaying, shedding or breaking but also last the test of time. Some of the above brushes are two years old and still going strong, there is a reason just about everyone owns at least one Real Techniques brush - they deliver.
