Jo Malone Lace Bottle Collection

It is no secret that I am a huge Jo Malone fragrance fanatic - then again aren't we all? Rolling out in May is the Jo Malone Lace Bottle collection, featuring 10 of the brands most loved fragrances presented in an hand etched bottle. A craftsman painstakingly adorns each bottle in a delicate lace design by hand. The finished bottles truly are a work of art and couldn't be more perfect as a wedding day gift or of course just to treat yourself - either way they are something that all Jo Malone collectors will adore.

As mentioned there are 10 scents to choose from: Peony & Suede Blush, Orange Blossom, Red Roses, English Pear & Freesia, Lime Basil & Mandarin, Nectarine Blossom & Honey, Wild Bluebell, Pomegranate Noir, Velvet Rose & Oud and Dark Amber & Ginger Lily. Once you have narrowed down your choice (I think I may splurge on English Pear & Freesia this time around) you then have the option of three lace designs to decorate your keep safe bottle. For Brides to be wouldn't Wild Bluebell be the perfect choice as your something blue?

The Jo Malone Lace Bottle Collection will launch this coming May and cost £86/100ml each.

Admit it, we are all a little addicted to snapping images on our phones; be it for snapchat, Instagram or as a little memento but how often do we physically display or print said photos? In my case almost never, which is a shame as my camera roll is a digital walk through memory lane. If like myself you like the idea of creating a scrapbook and/or photo album but will less than likely find the time to sit down to make the plan a reality, Pop Book could be the very thing you are looking for.

The best part each book costs £4.99 inclusive of delivery and only takes up to a week to arrive!

Fuji Film Pop Book & Giveaway

Shearer Candles Couture Collection

The last thing I need is another candle but when a home grown company comes along and knocks my socks off, I simply can't not share or spread the word. Let me introduce to you a candle brand that you may not be all that aware of - Shearer Candles. A Glasgow based candle company that has been around since 1897 - a family business that scents many a home, hotel and business not just in Scotland but worldwide. Affordable, made with great ingredients and with a wide variety of scents it is easy to see why many of my friends have recommend Shearer Candles to me. Rather cleverly the brand have just launched their Couture Collection which offers the best of both Spring and Winter scents in different sizes but in one place. I was kindly gifted a few to try out...

Shearer Candles Couture Collection

Persian Lime from £4
"An effervescent citrus fragrance opening with fresh Persian lime and zesty sweet grapefruit."
A beautiful, zesty lime fragrance that smells exactly like freshly cut and squeezed limes, I like that as a scent this has a somewhat cleansing quality. Take for instance the scent of fish - I'm sure it is yummy but the pungent smell doesn't half linger around! Burn Shearer Candles' Persian Lime for a few minutes and the heavy fish aroma is lifted. Speaking of being lifted this is a great mood boosting scent that will help pick up your mood - great for everyday use.

Shearer Candles Couture Collection

"A sweet, juicy, tropical, mouth watering scent that will remind you of summer days."
My absolute favourite, yes this does smell like Watermelon but more of the candied version. If you are familiar with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle and adore the slightly bubblegum-esque fragrance this is the candle for you. I am obsessed, it is sweet yet not overly so nor is it obviously synthetic in scent.

Egyptian Cotton from £4
"A smooth, silky floral with notes of rose jasmine and carnations, warmed with a touch of clove."
This is the most generic out of the bunch which I don't necessarily think has to be a bad thing. Most candle/home fragrance brands offer a clean cotton scent and this is Shearer Candles. Crisp, clean and inoffensive - it is the type of fragrance you can have burning in the background in any situation. It reminds me a lot of fabric softer which again is not a complaint.

Shearer Candles Couture Collection

"A heavenly scent of warm baked coconut infused with hints of vanilla pod."
A beautiful creamy, clean, crisp and somewhat dreamy scent that reminds me a lot of sun tan lotion and the summer months in general, It is care free, gentle and perfect for chilling out with any time of the day. The vanilla and coconut complement one and other so well - you;d be forgiven for assuming that this would be overly sweet when in fact it is the opposite. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this blend.

"A heady floral heart of tuberose with top notes of violet and amber. "
The strongest scent of the bunch and the one I feel will divide most - you'll either love or hate this blend. To me it is very reminiscent of Thierry Mugler's Angel Eau de Perfume and as that does not come in candle form this is the next best thing!

All of the above offer a great scent throw, with Amber and Rose being the strongest and Egyptian Cotton the weakest. The burn cleanly, the scents are a nice break from the norm and in general they are a joy to use. I can not recommend enough!

What I Wish I Knew About My Skin Back Then

Growing up I knew next to little about my skin, I believed just about every old wives tale going and most likely made problems worse rather than better. I am not claiming to be an expert now - heck far from it but I have learned a lot along the way...

- You will not and do not get blemishes from eating pizza, chocolate or any other food (unless allergic but then again that is more of a rash)- a blemish is a blocked pore.

- On the same note if you have blemishes do not equate to dirty or under cleansed skin. A pore can become blocked with dirt, debris, oil from your face and make-up, cleansing and exfoliating will and does help prevent the pores from blocking but some of us are more prone to such problem than others.

- You can not cause your skin to sag by incorrectly massaging and/or applying creams "wrongly". In laymen's terms he skin's texture and structure is to do with the collagen production within the Epidermis. As the Epidermis is a lower level of skin you can not damage it by touch - age and UV rays are what damages such layer.

- Toner is not for removing the last of your make-up, don't get me wrong it will and should catch any remaining traces which is an added bonus. Rather it is to rebalance the skin after cleansing and restore it back to its natural pH balance.

- Sunscreen is not only for when the sun is out, UV rays are present every single day even in cold places like Scotland. Find a good facial sunscreen (factor 15 and above) and apply it daily before make-up. Sun damage completely ages the skins - the UV rays destroy natural collagen production making the skin sag and wrinkle prematurely and of course creates brown spots.

- Photosensitivity is something I have only just learned about, essentially some products such as those that contain AHA's and Glyoclic Acid can make you skin more sensitive to the sun. This could make it more prone to burning and/or a rash. To avoid this happening you should use product which contain such ingredients at night and of course follow up with an SPF the following morning. Oddly products that contain a high concentration of lemon (a natural AHA) can trigger the same reactions.

- There is such a thing as dehydration lines which are more often than not vertical lines on the hands and face. I tend to get mine around my lips when I'm slacking on the water front. The good news is once I eat and drink better they plump out and vanish. If you find vertical lines and don't smoke, are fairly young - more often than not this will be the cause. I can not begin to tell you how relived I was when a facialist told me this!

- As a spotty teen I used to dab toothpaste on my blemishes before going to bed, then awaken to a minty scented pillow case...ah those where the days. The main reason it was recommended back then was due to the ingredients found in many toothpastes : Triclosan, an antibacterial agent which can also be found in many blemish busting products, along with hydrogen peroxide and alcohol which coincidently is also present in toothpaste. Yes it can dry out any offending blemishes but it can also irritate the surrounding skin, burn and create more blemishes in turn.

- The hands, neck and chest area's are one of the first to age treat them how you would your face; a good moisturiser regularly and don't skimp on SPF.

Isn't it funny what we used to believe? I will never forgive myself for blaming Chocolate for my blemishes ha!

Lush Haul

Today I popped into Lush for a brief on all that is new and upcoming over the next month or so. The problem with Lush is that temptation is only all to ripe, I had no intentions of purchasing anything and yet here we are. Rather than doing my usual and stocking up on my favourites I decided to try some new things - mainly soap and scrubs.

Lush Haul

Lush Movis Face Soap from £4.50
An entirely new concept to me but I do prescribe to the don't knock it until you've tried it mindset. Apparently this soap wholemeal bread to exfoliate, with wheatgerm oil, hop oil and Fair Trade organic cocoa butter to soften the skin. I was impressed to find out that Movis is free from animal fats, palm oil and petrochemicals. I'm hoping that it doesn't dry out my skin or leave it feeling tight but I will report back with a full review once I have fully tested this out.

Lush Haul

Lush Coalface Face Soap from £4.95
I figured if you are going to purchase one facial soap, it only made sense to purchase another for the sake of comparison. This soap which can also be used on the body is made antiseptic rosewood, sandalwood as well as absorbent charcoal. The idea is that it deeply cleanses and softens the skin in one quick step. It is somewhat akin to a face mask yet a quicker fix that can be used daily.

Lush Sandstone Soap from £3.40
A zesty lemon soap that features real sand to exfoliate the body, leaving the skin softer and visibly brighter. This is for use on the body and is essentially a 2-in-1 treatment - a cleanser and body scrub in one. I have used this in the past and I am keen to pop into the shower tonight and see if this can work its magic once more.

Lush Haul

Lush Rockstar Soap from £3.40
I like to have a chunk of this in the shower to use every now and then in place of shower gel, it smells exactly like Lush Snow Fairy but only is in soap form. You can also use this as a hand soap - either way it smells wonderful and is a great way to get a hit of the Snow Fairy scent all year round.

Lush Porridge Soap from £3.10
Every now and then the skin on my body becomes super dry, itchy and on occasion I get patches of eczema. I have read several reviews on Lush Porridge Soap all of which state that it is the ideal alternative to shower gel for such skin conditions as it gently cleanses, soothes and cools the skin in one quick step. I have high hopes for this.

Lush Sugar Scrub £2.95
This has been on my to try list for what seems like forever, it is one of those products that I mean to purchase each time I go into Lush and always forget. Well not this time. This is a mix of sugar, grated ginger and fresh fennel to brighten the skin, boost circulation and of course buff the skin. You can use this on dry skin for an intense treatment or rub over damp skin for a more gentle approach. I am a little worried that this will turn to mush once in the shower, but as always I will review in full in the coming weeks.

Lush Haul

Lush Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub from £7.75
I tried this in store today and knew I had to make a sneaky purchase, although a gritty scrub for the face and body it is surprisingly gentle. The best way to describe this is a gritty scrub combined with a creamy body butter - it smells incredible, buffs the skin into the softest state and is just a joy to use. I think I have found a new staple.

Lush Stepping Stone  £3.10
Feet need love too! As much as I hate feet, it is time that I accept that sandal season is nearly here and I quite literally want to put my best foot forward. Apparently this is not only a foot scrub and pumice but also a deodoriser. I did purchase this on a whim and now somewhat regret it as it does look to be a rather messy affair.

Have you tried any of the above?
If so especially the foot scrub and facial soaps do let me know if you have any tips!

Weekly Favourites

I can not believe that there is only two days left of March! Seriously where does time go? I considered casting this post aside in favour of a monthly favourite edit but that wouldn't necessarily give me the room to go into the detail about each product. Basically I like to ramble and I'm sure most prefer more than a sentence on each product? Now that we are in Spring you may have noticed that my choices are a little lighter than normal...

I don't want to gross out anyone but up until this morning I was at the mercy of a large sty on my eye, rather than further irritate it I completely forwent any eye make-up and hide behind sunglasses. Two notable new additions and dare I say it favourite make-up products of mine for the last week or so have been: L'Oreal Infalliable 24Matte Foundation and MAC Cinderella Lipstick in Royal Ball. As my skin is less than perfect at the moment I require a fairly high level of coverage, yet the last thing I want is a flat complexion. L'Oreal Infalliable 24Matte Foundation is one of the best matte foundations I have ever used - it doesn't cling to dry areas yet offers a little oil control for those with oiler skin types. It glides on with such ease, the formula reminds me a lot of MAC Studio Sculpt yet less heavy. If you are a fan of matte finishes you need to try this! Look out for my full review of the foundation and matching primer later today.

Admittedly I am not the biggest fan of the MAC Cinderella line up but the lipstick in the shade Royal Ball has become my go to shade. A light, sheer pinky peach shade that is moisturising and very natural. It is a great everyday option, one of those shades I can keep at the bottom of my bag safe in the knowledge that it will go with every look and outfit. Isn't it such a shame that the best MAC shades tend to be limited edition?

Somewhat new acne medication has dried out my skin so to rebalance and restore I have been relying on Clarins Santal Face Treatment Oil. I rave about the Clarins Treatment Oils almost weekly but I truly do accredit them for keeping my skin hydrated. A little on the pricey side yes but one bottle lasts for several months at a time and never irritates my skin. The best investment I have ever made in skin care.

If like myself you enjoy refreshing, uplifting and somewhat cooling fragrances than I can not recommend the new Body Shop Green Tea Cologne. It has yet to launch online but it is already out for sale in my local store! If you like green, non-floral and somewhat unisex fragrances then this is one I fully recommend.

Lastly I want to mention the new EcoTools Ultimate Air Dryer Hair Brush, which is a oddly shaped hair brush that has been designed to allow ease of drying the hair. The shape allows the air from a hair dryer to reach more hair thus speeding up the overall use time - up to 40%, great for when you are in a rush. It is rather easy to use and hold, glides through the hair without snagging and of course cruelty free. I wouldn't personally say that it has almost halved my drying time but it certainly helps, as a brush it is great - really gentle on the hair but allows you to de-tangle and style much like you would with any other brush.

What have you been enjoying as of late?

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

As so many of us are Lush fans I thought I'd share a similar brand that offers lots of bath and body products, along with home fragrance. If you are not familiar with Bomb Cosmetics I urge you to visit their site and perhaps treat yourself to an indulgent bath product or two, I personally recommend the candles. If you are stuck for some recommendations here is what is new for the brand this Spring...

Bomb Cosmetics Vanilla Honey Lazy Days Candle £7.99 - link
As with all Bomb Cosmetics candles this comes beautifully packaged, various tones of yellow wax scented with a mild, milky sweet honey and vanilla fragrance. I'm not a huge a fan of honey scents in general but this is rather pleasant - the vanilla note prevents it from becoming too sickly sweet. A great mellow home scent that will last for hours on end.

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

Bomb Cosmetics Peppermint Patch Soap 100g/£2.50 - link
A fresh, cooling mint scented soap that will wake and revive even the deepest of sleepers come their morning shower. Bomb Cosmetics Peppermint Patch Soap is not recommended for use on the face rather it is best used as a hand soap or as an alternative to shower gel. It is a mild formula that will not strip the skin of its natural moisture yet is deeply cleansing.

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

Bomb Cosmetics Summer Cherry Soap 100g/£2.50 - link
Identical in formula to the soap above only with a different design and scent. If like myself you enjoy fruity fragrances, particularly cherry scents then this is the soap for you. It is bright, uplifting and very sweet - a beautiful feminine fragrance.

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

Bomb Cosmetics Distant Shores Cocoa Swirl £2.99 - link
A hybrid product - a bath fizzer/bomb that gentle fragrances and tints the water, all the while releasing a trail of indulgent cocoa and shea butter behind to soften and moisturise the skin. If you have dry skin or perhaps just want to nourish your body while you bath this should be the next bath treat you purchase. In terms of scent thanks to the notes of pineapple and coconut, combined with the coco butter this smells exactly like sun tan lotion - a great form of escapism when the weather is less than favourable. Unlike your typical bath bomb this can be reused up to three times!

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

Bomb Cosmetics Fairytale Fantasy Bath Blaster £2.29 - link
Not only is this bath bomb beautifully designed and very aptly named but it smells wonderful - like Bulgarian rose. It contains notes of pure Rosemary and Cedarwood essential oils along with natural butters to both scent and soothe the skin. Once in the water this fizzes like crazy, gently tinting the water a pretty pink and softening as it goes. A beautiful treat for young and old(er) princesses alike ha!

Bomb Cosmetics Spring 2015

Bomb Cosmetics Over the Rainbow Bath Blaster £2.29 - link
One of the most intricately designed bath bombs I have ever seen, not only does this feature a mini rainbow but also glitter a plenty. This is sure to brighten up even the dullest of days with uplifting notes of Jasmine and Clary Sage essential oils which are again combined with natural butters to keep the skin soft and supple. A great gift for anyone a little under the weather or even just to cheer yourself up!

Free Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash

Just a little heads up that should you spend over £45 online at Origins, or at your local Origins counter you will receive a full sized bottle of Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. It is currently one sample per person and running on a while stocks last concept. If you have yet to try Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash let me give you a quick low down.

"Origins gentle, frothy face wash carefully does both jobs without cancelling each other out. It helps to seek out oil, soaks it up then keeps it well in-check, while it balances and protects dry prone zones. And Broadleaf Kelp breaks down dirt, disperses excess oil and sends dullness down the drain. Skin feels comfortably refreshed after cleansing, never tight, pulled or parched."

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash a soft, minty scented face wash which has a creamy consistency that is technically a foaming facial cleanser but isn't at all sudsy. Frothy really is the best way to describe this, when combined with water this produces gentle and soft, small bubbles that gently cleanse the skin without irritation. I can also vouch that even with continued use Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash does not dry out the skin, rather it leaves my skin feeling soft, well cleansed and oddly blemish free which may be due to the oil control aspect. In all honesty I can not say that the cleanser has in any way brightened my skin but if you are looking for a quick, non-drying and easy way to cleanse you really could do a lot worse!

If you were already planning an Origins splurge there is no better time than the present.

Instant Beauty Fixes

Admit it you are more often than not pushed for time? A lengthy facial when you have a hundred and one other things to do may seem more of a hindrance than a treat, never mind factoring in the cost. Wither it is adding a little radiance to your skin, busting a blemish or preventing the signs of ageing I have collected together my favourite instant beauty fixes - heck some of them you can even pop on while you work!

Instant Beauty Fixes

FaceD Instant Hydrating Anti-Ageing Masks £7.99 - £14.99 for packs of five
(exclusive to Llyods Pharmacy's)

FaceD offer two types of face masks: one for the entire face and one to target the delicate eye area. Both have been formulated with three different types of Hyaluronic Acid to encourage the skin to absorb and retain water. They also contain active ingredients to help brighten the skin and gently reduce signs of skin discolouration be it from environmental damage, stress or the sun. Both types of sheet masks are gentle, free from parabens, perfume and alcohol, deeply hydrating, quick to use (15 minutes is all they require) and leave the skin feeling and looking plumper from the first use. If you choose to use said masks regularly they can help to permanently reduce wrinkles and expression lines - not too shabby for something that you can pick up in your local pharmacy and only requires 15 minutes of your time.

Sarah Chapman Spot Stickers £22 via Space.NK - link.

I hate to liken blemishes to cold sores but every now and then I get a tingly feeling on my face and know that a large, blemish is on its way. Now I carry around the Sarah Chapman Spot Stickers for such emergencies, these nifty little patches which contain salicylic acid, P Refinyl, retinol-like Sytenol A and Vitamin C to calm, reduce redness, de-congest and speed up spot recovery and preventing scarring. On the skin these patches are all but invisible so you can pop one on at any time and let it work its magic. The good news is that although they are sticky patches they do not rip or tug at the skin when removing meaning you are less than likely to damage the skin surrounding the blemish. Super clever and a new handbag must have.

Frownies £16.95 via Amazon - link

It has taken me quite a while to get my head around Frownies, initially I wrote them off as nothing more than fancy stickers - which in essence they are but stick with them (terrible pun) and you may be surprised. In a nutshell Frownies stop you from creasing a certain area of your face by holding it taunt, which is what the packaging states in a roundabout way. Some say it is like a non-invasive and natural Botox and with continuous use, it re-trains the way you move your face. Frownies are little brown patches that you place on any area of the face you want to prevent lines from appearing and for best use you are meant to leave one in place for at least three hours. On the skin they feel like pore strips, tight but not too uncomfortable. Out of curiosity I have tested these little patches out for over three months now and have noticed that I naturally frown less, which in turn should mean less lines in the future. Anything that I can sleep in that will help improve my skin in some form or other is always going to get a heads up from me.

MAC Cinderella Collection

I understand that the majority of this collection has sold out online and in-store, I also fully comprehend that for most the packaging ran a little on the bland side. Those who have read this site for years (I began four years ago) will know only too well I am a MAC girl. There was a time I bought every limited edition collection - a pricey habit that I have somewhat grown out of, walking past a MAC counter is still dangerous. Truth be told I save my splurges for the truly special collections, one of which I did think would be MAC Cinderella. When it first went online I missed out, then last week it was re-stocked I decided to treat both my sister and myself to a few pieces and the rest the say is history. Is this the most exciting collection MAC have produced? No, heck some may even say the shades and packaging are safe but on the plus side it is all very wearable.

MAC Cinderella Collection

A quick note on the packaging a.k.a the current bone of contention, I'm going to put it out there - I do rather like it. Yes it is a little childish (growing up Disney Cinderella was my favourite film) but the pale iridescent lilac come blue tone speaks to me and the gold writing is a pretty touch. Admittedly MAC should have taken the Cinderella concept and ran with it - pumpkins, glass slippers, the clock striking ten and what not but I guess it is, what it is. You can't win them all.

MAC Mystery Princess Beauty Powder £23
Essentially a cool toned beige highlighting powder that is intended to give a lit from within glow. Sadly the formulation is a little chalky and dry, resulting in the fine glitter particles within this powder settling in my enlarged pores. On the plus side it is a very subtle highlighter meaning it can be used as an illuminating face powder to set make-up or as a light, shimmery eyeshadow should you wish. A great concept but the formulation does need a little work. If you do find this on counter or should more stock arrive online skip this if you have anything deeper than a medium skin tone, as it will appear chalky on deeper complexions.

MAC Coupe D'Chic Iridescent Pressed Powder £23
As soon as I opened this (I didn't Google swatches etc before ordering) I was instantly reminded of NARS Orgasm Blush. MAC are a little lofty in their description of this product - my guess is that it is intended to be a multi-purpose product much like above. Personally I find the light peachy pink tone of this powder best suited to the cheeks as an illuminating blush. The pigmentation isn't great and although the glitter is fine I find it translates on to the skin quite heavily making it less than ideal for day time wear. If you have a pale complexion this worn alone will be enough to give you a light, illuminating peachy pink punch of colour to the cheeks, should you have a medium to deep complexion this will either be a highlighting powder, or something you apply over the top of blush for added radiance. Again the powder is dry and a little chalky - I really don't know what else to say other than I am rather disappointed.

MAC Cinderella Lipsticks £17 each
I put my hands up and admit that I am an idiot, in a wave of panic I ordered both shades when really MAC Free as a Butterfly is not at all a shade I will ever wear. I have not swatched nor tested it as I won't wear it and think the best thing to do is either sell it on to someone who will cherish it or send it back to MAC for a refund. MAC Free as a Butterfly is a light, golden toned nude that reminds me a little of MAC Gel Lipstick - a shade that does not suit me at all. On the flip side MAC Royal Ball Lipstick is a shade I will get a lot of use out of - a light, peachy pink that has a slight golden tone. On the lips it does translate a little nude but it is not flat nor does it drain my face of colour. The formula is Lustre so it is not the most pigmented of finishes, rather than mask the lips in colour it adds a hint of a tint, while being fairly hydrating. In all honesty I should have only bought the lipstick.

So there we have it MAC Cinderella; the collection I am still a little on the fence about.

Limited Edition Elemis British Botanical Shower Cream

The newest Elemis launch - Elemis British Botanical Shower Cream, only landed on my doorstep this morning but I couldn't wait to take it for a spin after a mini-gym work out. This limited edition shower cream not only smells like a fresh Spring meadow but gently moisturises the skin as it cleanses.

"Harnessing the powerhouse of ingredients grown in the idyllic British countryside, this aromatic shower cream is expertly blended with soothing Lavender, Chamomile and uplifting Geranium and Palmarosa. Omega-rich Echium oil works to hydrate and nourish the skin, whilst vitamin and mineral rich organic Oats and Rosemary gently cleanse the skin, for a truly restorative in-shower experience."

There are very few shower products that I'd recommend for both night and day use as far as fragrance is concerned; in the morning I require something punchy to help awaken me from my slumber, in the evening I want something calming. Oddly the limited edition Elemis British Botanical Shower Cream covers both bases, the uplifting notes of Geranium and Palmarosa are ideal for awakening and the lavender and chamomile have you covered come night fall. Fragrance aside the formula is beautiful - silky, non-drying yet cleansing. I may have only just began testing this but I can vouch that it leaves the skin feeling supple, soft and comfortable - if you are not prone to dryness this could be the ideal 2-in-1 product that allows you to occasionally skip body moisturiser.

A lovely, Spring ready treat for the skin and senses.

Maybelline Baby Dr Rescue Lip Balms UK

I'm not the biggest fan of Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balms and have openly stated so a good few times. Yes they are pretty eye catching in their bright packaging glory, yes the fruity scents do make them some what appealing but when you really get down to it, the balm itself is mediocre. It doesn't heal the lips, nor is it all that moisturising and since the Baby Lips Balms cost more than Carmex or Blistex - it is pretty easy to see why I don't have one in every pocket. However Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Lip Balms are something else and the good news is that they have hit the UK and are now available via Superdrug! Can I get a hallelujah?

"Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Lip Balm provides care that soothes sore lips, with a hit of eucalyptus, and combats dryness. Available in natural tints to even out lip tone for healthier-looking lips. In 1 minute, lips feel soothed. In 1 day, lips look less dry. In 1 week, lips are reborn."

Maybelline Baby Dr Rescue Lip Balms UK

In a nutshell the above blurb is true - well the lips being reborn is a little far fetched but hey that is the cosmetic industry for you! The Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Lip Balms are medicated so they heal and soothe chapped lips - on the lips they create a mild tingling sensation, a lot like Carmex lip balm but with a much lighter texture which is altogether cooling. The lighter formula glides on to the lips with such ease, making a great base for any other lip product you may want to apply on top. From the first use my lips did feel better - by that I mean less flaky and dare I say it hydrated. The scent of all the Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Lip Balms is eucalyptus based, I rather like it but if you aren't so keen I wouldn't worry too much as the fragrance doesn't linger around for any length of time.
Maybelline Baby Dr Rescue Lip Balms UK

The Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Lip Balms come in various tints as well an un- tinted version: Too Cool which is my personal favourite. I also Coral Crave, which is intended to deposit a light peachy pink tint to the lips. It doesn't. My sister purchased the entire line up and the only one that you can really see on the lips in terms of a tint is Soothing Sorbet and neither of us have overly pigmented lips, it is the only downside of this lip balm range. If you are looking for a pigmented tinted lip balms the Dr Rescue Lip Balms won't be for you but if you do want a budget, medicated lip balm that works you could do a lot worse! I am surprised there has been no advert campaigns or buzz about this range hitting the UK, given how hyped up the original Maybelline Baby Lips line was!

Additional SPF's

We all know about protecting our face and body from the harmful sun rays but what about your hands, lips or even the delicate eye area? First of all let me say easier said than done where the hands and the eyes are concerned, ridiculous as those are the two areas that age quickest where the sun damage is considered. On the UK high street (Boots and Superdrug) I kid you not when I said I only found two hand creams with an SPF value, both of which were Neutrogena products. Eye cream with SPF? Forget it not one to found on a budget, you will have to splash out on the likes of Clinique. The good news is that lip balms with SPF are plentiful, all you have to do is find your favourite. Speaking of favourable products here is my Additional SPF picks and why I rely on them...

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Anti-Ageing Hand Cream SPF 25 £4.49 via Boots -link
Like many I am firmly in the habit of applying SPF each morning to my face before make-up, as the face is exposed daily to ageing UV rays it is my first defence against sun damage but why not the same vigilance for my hands? They see as much, if not more of the elements daily and unsurprisingly as such are one of the first areas to show signs of age, this is why I don't understand why there is not more hand creams with SPF? Luckily there is a great budget option which not only protects against sun damage but contains active soy to offer intense moisture and protection, as well as reducing the visibility of brown spots. This is a rich, non-greasy and intensely moisturising hand cream - it acts quickly and is perfect for day use as it contains an SPF of 25 - an extra benefit for no additional effort.

Clinique Superdefense SPF 20 Eye Cream £29 via Boots - link
As you may be aware, lines can form around the eye area due to the squinting in the sun - an eye cream of course won't prevent this, your best line of defence is a good quality pair of sun glasses. I however do apply Clinique Superdefense SPF 20 Eye Cream both to my eye and lip area. I've been told time and time again, that the skin around the eye is finer so surely it only makes sense to protect it? Oddly this particular eye cream is a little on the thick/heavy side yet it doesn't irritate my skin nor does it feel sticky. It quickly absorbs, hydrates and protects the skin and like I mentioned it can be used around the mouth which creating clogged pores and//or blemishes, a fear for all of us when heavy SPF's are involved surely? A great everyday, do it all eye cream that is well worth the splurge - a little goes a long, long way and I feel great knowing that I am doing all I can to protect my skin.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15 £4.50 via The Body Shop - link
SPF in lip balm is less of a rarity, rather it boils down to finding your perfect formulation. My everyday lip balm is currently The Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15. I rather like that it is gentle yet hydrating, very lightly scented so it doesn't overwhelm and as it contains both an SPF of 15. Combine this with a hefty does of Vitamin E (rich in collagen) and it should keep the lips appearing youthful for as long as possible, as well as protecting against the elements. Great for popping in your pocket for use throughout the day. One of the best budget friendly SPF lip balms I have come across and one I have several tubes of scattered throughout my handbags.

If you have any eye or hand SPF recommendations please do let me know as I am forever on the look out for improved formulations.

Gucci Flora Glamorous Magnolia Eau de Toilette

It has been a while since I have ventured into Gucci fragrances but one that doesn't disappoint is Gucci Flora Glamorous Magnolia Eau de Toilette. Such scent is one of three within a family of floral based scents, each of which are based on a bloom from one of Gucci's iconic floral scarf prints. At the moment the 100ml size of Gucci Flora Glamorous Magnolia Eau de Toilette comes within a limited edition, printed box based on said scarves. Packaging aside this is a spectacular fragrance, one that is not only ideal for the Spring/Summer months but also everyday wear.

"Glamorous Magnolia celebrates the magnolia in all its guises: radiant freshness, velvet petals and an enduringly feminine sensuality. Glamour is assured. The Glamorous Magnolia woman is spellbinding in her allure. Confident, charismatic, she draws her audience in with a caressing touch."

I'm not sure everyone would agree with my personal description but I would deem it to be a candied fruity/floral - gentle, refreshing yet sweet. Think in the vain of the limited edition Marc Jacobs Daisy fragrances that crop up each Spring and you will not go far wrong. Gucci Flora Glamorous Magnolia Eau de Toilette is a blend of white floral notes such as Magnolia coupled with crisp green accords, citrus zest, musk, sandalwood finished with a warm chocolate accord to give it a hint of sweetness. It is youthful  and flirty yet not in anyway cloying or over the top. Oddly this begins as a cooling fragrance but once it begins to dry down the chocolate and musk notes add warmth, essentially the best of both fragrance worlds. Although a gentle scent I find it is one that clings to my skin and wears exceptionally well - yes it fades ever so slightly throughout the day but what fragrance doesn't?

Even if Gucci Flora Glamorous Magnolia Eau de Toilette doesn't appeal to you there are two other fragrances within the Gucci Flora range to try. Heck you can even blend a few together to create your own bespoke Gucci scent.
