Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

Today a beautiful, bright box of Lush Mother's Day 2015 goodies landed on my doorstep and I couldn't wait to share the new collection. As you may or may not know I don't have a bath tub so all the lovely bath product testing falls on to my sister - it is a hard life eh? While she tests everything out here is a quick round up of what I was sent and my first impressions...

Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

Lush Love You Mum Soap from £4.25

"Say it with flowers: this elegant, floral soap is made with mimosa and jasmine absolutes, and bergamot oil to uplift and refresh."

I seldom use solid soap, rather I reach for liquid hand soap, shower gel and what have you - I am going to make more of an effort to go old school and enjoy traditional soap. I may even pop into Lush and purchase a few bars for scattering throughout the house. Lush Love You Mum soap is rather floral in fragrance, it reminds me of a mild Spring day and would make a lovely gift for any loved one this coming Mothering Sunday. You could even purchase a large slice and cut it into smaller chunks and gift all those near and dear?

Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

"Lovely in lilac, this super-scrummy, sweet and floral shower gel is filled with lustre for a touch of glamour."

At the moment I am not too sure how I feel about the fragrance of this shower gel, it smells rather chocolate yet fruity based to me. Isn't that the oddest combination? I can't decide if it is my cold playing tricks on me (most likely) or perhaps I need warm water to really make this product come to life in terms of scent. I am looking forward to trying this out tonight in the shower, I will use this all weekend long before popping up a full review.

Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

"We've put our trust in the most famous mother of all - Mother Nature - and blended fresh strawberry juice with luscious butters to give you soft, scrummy-scented skin."

I should point out that I only have a small 50g tub in-case you thought the price was rather high for such a small tub. The one in-store and online for that matter is nearly five times as big! This is a rich
cocoa butter based body moisturiser that is enriched with fruit extracts to protect, moisturise and soothe the skin. It has a strange but pleasant fragrance - think fruity cocoa butter and you won't go far wrong. The texture is beautiful - creamy almost akin with the consistency of soufflé that instantly hydrates and sinks into the skin. I have only tested this on my hands but will say I am nothing short of impressed!

Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

"Give us today our daily bath and deliver us from uncleanliness with delicate floral bubbles that unfurl like cherry blossoms in the spring."

A huge bubble bar that will last several baths, it smells utterly divine (get it?) - lightly floral yet with a hint of citrus. I think this will be a crowd pleaser and the item that sells out the quickest. Isn't the design fun? I realise it is meant to be a nod to Mary Mother of Christ but all I see is a Nun and at other times a screaming baby ha!

Lush Mother's Day Collection 2015

"Bursting with rose petals, this bomb is a floral spectacle in your bath. Soya milk powder blends with orange flower absolute, rosewood and Turkish rose oils for a beautiful, skin-softening experience."

This is so pretty and delicate to look at that I am almost glad that I don't have to be the one that has to dunk it into a bath. Apparently when added to water this not only softens the water as well as fragrancing but changes the water into a pale, pink hue. Lovely! I know not everyone enjoys rose scents but this is rather enjoyable - uplifting yet creamy at the same time. If you find rose fragrances to be a little too mature and musky this will be a pleasant surprise.

Look out for full reviews in the coming week or so!

Birchbox Pick Your Benefit Sample Box (March 2015)

This month all Birchbox subscribers have the chance to pick their Benefit Mascara sample (it closed on the 22nd of February for existing members) which includes the yet to launch Benefit Roller Lash Mascara as well as the other two best selling options: Bad Gal Lash and They're Real. Pretty cool huh? I think we all enjoy surprises within the box but given the chance every now and then having the option to pick what would best suit our tastes.

Birchbox Pick Your Benefit Sample Box (March 2015)

March Birchbox offering is a collaboration with Habitat with a "Do Try This at Home" theme, I'd bookmark the Birchbox site as they do promise some rather exciting content involving Habitat - I'm hoping for some D.I.Y inspiration. Anyway here is what is inside the March box alongside your chosen Benefit Mascara.

Birchbox Pick Your Benefit Sample Box (March 2015)

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara - C'mon you didn't think I'd ask for any other did you? Benefit Roller Lash is quickly becoming my holy grail mascara. It lifts, separates and to a certain extent curls my long yet fine and flimsy lashes. If you like a wide eye look this is the mascara for you. I'd also say if you have yet to try it this is the perfect opportunity as the full size tube is close to £20!

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris - There is very few fragrance samples within beauty boxes that I have ever enjoyed but I am pleased to say that Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris is beautiful. It reminds ever so slightly of Britney Spears Fantasy Eau de Parfum only more sophisticated.

TanOrganic Self Tanning Oil - As a self tanning addict I was excited to see this dinky little bottle of oil, as well as producing a natural, glowing tan this also moisturises and nourishes the skin. If you like to fake it but never bake it and find typically self tanners to be drying this could be the answer.

Janjira Pomegrante and Acai Facial Scrub - A combination of fruit extracts and vitamin E combine to create a deeply cleansing facial scrub that leaves the skin brightened and softened. I have yet to try this but have rubbed a little on my hands and rather enjoy the texture. Not to mention it smells wonderful.

A Perfect Heritage by Penny Vincezi (chapter extract) - A full chapter of such novel to enjoy before deciding if it is for you or not. I'd like to see more novels included within beauty boxes, even if it is just a chapter or two.

Birchbox and Habitat Notebook - a dinky, pocket sized notebook that has been designed by Habitat especially for Birchbox subscribers. Ideal for making notes on the go!

A great little box wouldn't you agree? I'm also sure I am not the only one who welcomes the addition of choice. Word on the street is that we will also be able to pick a sample of choice in the next two boxes too!

You can order and pick your Benefit Mascara sample here (£10 + £2.95 p&p)  - link.

Great Facial SPF Options for Every Budget SPF

As a youngster I religiously watched E! and I can recall one fresh, faced but in her 40's red headed actress/singer, telling Joan Rivers that her skin care secret was daily SPF. Now the name or occupation of such lady now escapes me nor is it all the important but rather the life lesson I took away is. I can not recall a day in which I haven't applied SPF before make-up application to ensure I don't prematurely age and to prevent skin cancer. If you think I am coming across as a little preachy or holier than thou; keep in mind as a young teen I abused both sun oil and the tanning beds, there is not an ounce of judgement in my body in regards to the sun care.

When you think about it the two areas that are exposed to the elements about 365 days a year are the hands and face, hence why they are the quickest to show signs of ageing and general sun damage. Annoyingly I do find tracking down a good SPF for the face easier said than done. You want a light formulation that is: non-greasy, won't clog the pores, won't irritate sensitised or acne prone skin, doesn't leave you shiny, won't alter any make-up applied on top and offers both UVA and UVB protection. Luckily I have been on the case for over two years and have narrowed down my top 5 choices...

Great Facial SPF Options for Every Budget SPF

Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defense SPF 50 (£30.60) - For the last year or so Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defense SPF 50 has been my go to product, I rather like that it is a light, easy to apply lotion that quickly sinks into my skin doesn't alter any make-up applied on top nor is it greasy. A generally worry for most is that daily SPF can lead to blocked pores, blackheads and blemishes - I can safely say that I have been using this for over a year, daily and it has not encouraged my skin to behave any differently. A word of warning - you do have to allow this to fully absorb (a good 10 mins or so) before applying make-up, so this may not be ideal for those in a rush. Another heads up would be to warn you that this is fragranced so if you have extra sensitive skin you may want to avoid. Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defense SPF 50has a creamy texture that seems to suit normal to dry skin best but like I have said I use this all the time even when my skin is at it's oiliest and have had no problems. As this is a SPF 50 I even pack this when I am in warmer/sunnier climates than merry ol' Glasgow.

Asda's Anti-Age Facial Sun Crème (£4) - Annoyingly this choice tends to be seasonal i.e my local store only stocks this from around May to late August so I do tend to stock up when I notice it on the shelf Asda's Anti-Age Facial Sun Creme is dermalogically tested but does have a slight scent, it reminds me a little of Sudocreme but not quite as strong. It helps to prevent the appearance of sun induced brown spots, wrinkles and due to the vitamin E and green tea elements you also have extra protection from free radicals. Asda's Anti-Age Facial Sun Crème is moisturising without being overly thick nor is it sticky, I apply it first thing in the morning after my usual moisturiser and allow it to soak in - this takes less than a minute and then I apply my primer/foundation on top. Of course all primers and foundations are different but I don't find my foundation etc to slip or slide on top of this, in-fact I don't find it to affect my foundation one way or the other. If you find yourself burning throughout the day you can also apply this on top of your make-up, it may remove some powder based products but does not leave the skin shiny or greasy. Oh and I should mention it only costs £4 a tube.

Great Facial SPF Options for Every Budget SPF

Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Defense SPF 45 (£23.40) - If you don't wear make-up frequently and/or are looking to brighten as well as protect the skin you could do a lot worse than Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Defense SPF 45. Now is different and I mean it. It is so light that once applied to the skin you can not see it or feel it. Yes Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Defense SPF 45 does have a slight tint but once on the skin it disappears in colour but helps to brighten the skin. In the past I have experienced break outs which I accredit to SPF usage, large almost cystic under the skin spots which took forever and a day to heal so it is with caution that I approach any new facial product. As this is by Clinique who are renowned for their testing standards and lack of perfume I knew I would be good in hands. Two weeks of continuous use and guess what not a break out in sight! Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Defense SPF 45 is super gentle, quickly absorbed into the skin, is in no way heavy or greasy and best of all it doesn't interfere with the wear of make-up. Regular use can also help fade and prevent future age spots. In a word? Wonderful!

SkinCeuticals Brightening UV Defence (£27) - This is a light cream based product that not only offers protection against UV (UVA/UVB) rays but also a high SPF factor of 30; it lightly moisturises but not so much that those like myself with oily skin need to worry. Over time this helps to even out the skin tone while adding a slight brightening effect with each application. It sinks instantly into the skin and settles to a matte finish which makes it a great starting point in any facial routine including us that wear foundation - oddly I find it helps to prolong any make-up applied on top which was quite the surprise. Out of all the SPF options I have listed today I would deem this to be the heaviest on the skin and the one I tend to use in the Winter months as I find my skin appreciates the texture more. If you have dry skin I would say this is one you would more than appreciate. A little goes a long way and as it has an SPF30 it is also suitable for those sunny days meaning one bottle will suit all weather which is not only a time saver but in the long run money saved too! I know this isn't exactly economically sound of me but I swear by this as a hand cream.

Great Facial SPF Options for Every Budget SPF

Clarins UV Plus Day Screen Multi-Protection SPF50 (launches on the 8th of March) - I've saved this until last as it has yet to launch but trust me it is worth the wait! This is a light, non-tinted liquid lotion - that is a breeze to apply, quickly absorbed, not at all greasy nor tacky in texture and won't clog the pores. Not to mention it is oil free and will protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays as well as general environmental damage such as pollution and city living. Make-up glides on top of it and does not change in texture or tone should that be a worry. It is also kind to sensitised and blemished complexions - it is neither hydrating nor drying making it suitable for all. As sunscreen does have a tendency to leave us all a little greasy shall we say, this contains anti-shine technology which helps to reduce shine throughout the day and is compatible with all day creams. I like that the packaging is almost basic meaning men will be less than self concious purchasing/using this product. You really can't ask for more. Yes it is pricey but the little 30ml tube will last you a good few months and is worth every penny.

Annoyingly it does seem that most facial SPF options come with a £20+ price tag if you have any other recommendations please do share as this has become a pricey staple product. One that I did not get on with at all is Soap and Glory Sunshield - initially it was great but eventually it became to heavy/oily for my complexion. Such a shame as it is so affordable and accessible too!

New Pixi Fairy Dust Shades for 2015

Fun fact, it is now the 27th of February 2015 and I have only just noticed, while quickly skim reading this post that I had referred to the year as 2014. Does anyone else still do that? Or am I just really slow on the uptake? Living in the past aside I have two new shades of Pixi Fairy Dust to share, if you like loose pigments that are slightly less messy to apply then this post is for you!

Typically I skip pigment style eyeshadows as I find them tricky to apply and dare I say it a little messy, less than ideal if you are in a rush but there is no denying pigments tend to offer the prettiest finishes. The Pixi Fairy Dusts come in small little transparent pots with an in-built sturdy foam applicator. Typically I am not a fan of foam eyeshadow applicators but the domed, tapered style works well with the loose formula and is especially wonderful at precision application - think the lash line. What I will say is that the in-built sponge is pretty firm so it does apply the eyeshadow fairly heavily - for a softer approach you may want to dab on and then blend out with a fluffy eyeshadow brush.

The Pixi Fairy Dusts are not a new addition to the Pixi make-up line but the two new shades are: Silver Glow - an almost matte silver come blue shade that works wonderfully blended within a smoky eye look. It reminds me a lot of MAC Print Eyeshadow. Next up we have Olive Glow which is as you can imagine a bright, golden toned olive green that looks wonderful on tanned and deep skin tones. I can not wait to use this come the Summer months - it is pretty similar to MAC Scrumptious Olive Eyeshadow if looking for a dupe/comparison shade.

If you are familiar with loose eyeshadow pigments then the formulation of the Pixi Fairy Dusts will not come as a surprise - a powdery soft texture, high levels of pigmentation, easy to blend but a little messy at times due to the fall out. Silver Glow is slightly drier in texture compared to the shimmer shades but still softer than your average eyeshadow and not at all chalky. The loose formula of both Pixi Fairy Dusts tend to wear better on my oily lids compared to your typical eyeshadow; with a primer around 10 hours, without around 8 hours. The Pixi Fairy Dusts also apply wonderfully wet, more so the metallic shades - they almost look like real metal on the skin. In a nutshell they are easier to apply than your typical pigment, beautifully pigmented, in pretty shades and long wearing - all you'd want from an eyeshadow and more.

You can find all 8 shades of the Pixi Fairy Dust shades via Pixi for £10 each - link

My First Givenchy Products

I'm sure most will be surprised to hear there is a good few brands within the beauty world that I have yet to discover. I have been blogging for nearly four years but every now and then brands some what fly under my radar or are simply too expensive to just splurge. One said brand is Givenchy, I have admired the brand form a far but never plucked up the courage to hone in and make a purchase. Givenchy doesn't come cheap so I wanted to make sure that anything I did decide on would be well loved and used.

My First Givenchy Products

Each cosmetic brand somewhat has a distinctive style and iconic product and in the case of Givenchy it is is all about their prism shaped powder products and of course their Phenomen'Eyes Mascara. It will come of little surprise that this is exactly what I have, a pretty neutral yet perfect for evening wear eyeshadow palette and a mascara that does somewhat look torturous. I am a little way off from writing off my full review of each product just yet but let me share my initial thoughts on each luxurious product.

Givenchy Prisme Quatuor Eyeshadow Palette in Impertinence £37 via Escentual
There are so many beautiful shade variations of the Givenchy Prisme Quatuor Eyeshadow Palette that I would be surprised if I don't add to my collection before the year is over (I mean we are only in February after all). The Givenchy packaging in general oddly reminds me of Dior cosmetics not that this is a criticism - luxe, function and from what I can so far tell robust. Let's forget all about the packaging and focus on the beautiful shades within: a metallic pewter, a metallic yet glitter based navy, a bright bronze come gold that is again metallic and a true white satin based eyeshadow to highlight. I have only applied each shade once thus far but can report they are silky soft, beautifully pigmented and very much high quality. The beauty of this little quad is that you have the perfect colour palette for a muted day look as well as the option to create a strong, smoked out evening look with next to no effort. If like myself you have blue/grey eyes you need this palette - talk about making my eyes pop. Oh mama!

Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara £23 via Escentual
I have spoke time and time again about my fine, flimsy eyelashes that don't hold a curl and are easily weighed down. So far the only mascara that has really opened my eyes and somewhat curled my eyelashes without looking bizarre is Benefit Roller Lash but Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara may soon well join that list. Admittedly this mascara will take a little getting used to due to the the shape of the spoolie - a round ball in which you use vertically to tease the eyelashes upwards. It does look a little scary but trust me it is fairly easy to use and perfect for those who love lash separation. I am currently sporting it - I applied at 7am and so far, so good! No smudging, smearing or flaking. I will update in a week or so once I have fully tested it but I do think this may become a contender for my favourite mascara of the year.

In a nutshell I am kicking myself for not trying out Givenchy cosmetics sooner and will more than likely purchase a blush and an eyeshadow palette in the coming months. Do you have any recommendations?

Clarins Face Treatment Oils 101

I am a huge advocate of Clarins Facial Oils, if I could recommend one skin care product to invest in it would be a Clarins Facial Oil. It doesn't matter how my skin is behaving: oily, dry, sensitised, dehydrated or all of the above a few drops of a Clarins Facial Oil and I am good to go. Admittedly at just shy of £30 per bottle they don't come cheap but the good news is your investment will not only nourish your skin but last for months on end. I do own all three oils but very few people will feel the need for such extreme measures, one oil will be more than enough!

Clarins Face Treatment Oils 101

Before I break down the oils individually I do want to state that each oil is naturally fragranced due to the pure blend of plant ingredients which not everyone will enjoy. Personally I think it adds to the at home facial experience and makes the whole process more luxurious. I should also state that as the oils are 100% natural they may not agree with everyone's skin - I have yet to read a review stating this but I've flagged it up none the less. Typically speaking I use an oil daily and tend to use it in place of a facial serum at night. You can of course apply when best suits you but if applying in the AM before make-up application I'd allow a good half an hour to allow the oil to fully absorb. On the skin all three oils do feel a little greasy (a given what they are) but not at all heavy or unpleasant. To see the best results I do apply continuously for around a week but my skin is moisturised from the first application. To apply, dispense a few drops into the palms of your hands and gently massage all over the face. Less is more, depending on your skin's needs you may want to follow up with your regular moisturiser/night cream.

So yes three facial oils for daily use or targeted treatment when needed, the choices you have are:

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil for Dehydrated Skin - Perhaps the trickiest choice to make and skin state to determine as dehydrated skin doesn't always equate to a dry complexion and can affect everyone. Some tell tell signs may be tight yet visually greasy skin and /or dry patches on a typically oily complexion. Typically speaking dehydrated skin will be lacking water and over producing sebum to over compensate. If you have acne/blemish prone skin chance are you will experience it time from time due to the stripping nature of products used to treat such problems. Enter Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil not only does it deeply nourish, hydrate, brighten and soothe but it also prevents fine lines from forming as well as balancing the skin. A quick breakdown of the ingredients: essential oils of Rosewood (rejuvenates/plumps), Patchouli (promotes healing of the skin) and Blue Orchid extract: combined they revitalise and tone the epidermis (top layer of skin). Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil also contains Hazelnut oil to prevent future moisture loss and signs of ageing. At the moment this is my go to oil, it leaves my dry yet combination skin soft, supple and does not play havoc with my acne.

Clarins Face Treatment Oils 101

Clarins Santal Face Treatment Oil for Dry Skin - My winter skin saviour, if you have dry skin you will know about it - think rough, tight and in some cases visual dry patches on the skin. Typically my skin is oily but in the colder months the combination of central heating and biting cold stresses out my complexion and oddly makes it more sensitive. Clarins Santal Face Treatment for Dry Skin is the gentlest way I know to treat my skin when it is this state. The deeply nourishing oil quickly and effectively hydrates my skin without being heavy or further irritating my stressed out complexion. I am currently slathering this on my dried out, blemished skin and would go as far as saying I am convinced it is keeping my acne scarring at bay. That of course is just my own findings but as dry skin is typically the first to age you will be pleased to know this contains a blend of Sandalwood, Cardamom and Lavender to tone, soothe, comfort and de-congest the skin along with Hazelnut Oil softens, smooths and reduces redness. It literally is your one step solution to remedying all the problems that comes hand in hand with such skin concern.

Clarins Face Treatment Oils 101

Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil for Oily Skin - Yes this is aimed at oily skin but in my opinion this is the perfect alternative to a moisturiser for blemish prone skin. Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil is a natural astringent so it helps banish blemishes, hydrates, soothes and calms the skin with next to no effort and won't upset even the most sensitive of skins. This natural gem won't only help clear blemishes but balance oily skin too without being harsh or stripping the skin of it's natural oils. You may think placing oil on oily skin is straight up insane but in all honesty it was the best thing I ever did for my oily skin. When my skin is oily this is all I use at night as it is so light yet restoring, it won't overwhelm the skin with excessive moisture nor will it dry it out yet oddly it encourages blemishes to heal. It is nothing short of genius and all I use in the warmer seasons. As always the ingredient line up is 100% natural: Rosemary, Geranium and Lotus extracts to purify, tighten the pores and refines the skin texture. All the while being a natural astringent to clear and calm the skin. Much like the other two oils this contains Hazelnut Oil to deeply moisturise and prevent premature ageing.

Clarins Face Treatment Oils 101

If you made it this far, well done! You may have noticed none of the above oils are aimed at normal skin, this is because they are treatment oils - to right the wrongs of the skin world. I hope the above spiel in some way helps!

All of the above Clarins Face Treatment Oils cost £28.15/30ml via Escentual - link.

Lush Kerbside Violet Gorilla Perfume

Real talk - I am not a huge fan of Lush Gorilla Perfume's I find them a little too heedy and grown up for my slightly adolescent fragrance taste. I was kindly sent an assortment of the new Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3 scents to try out and from the get go I knew Lush Kerbside Violet would be my favourite. Rather than publishing a review there and then I wanted to take a few days to see how well it wore on my skin and if it would fall out of favour...I am very fickle.

"Cycling home from work, Mark (as in Constantine co-founder of Lush) often spots violets growing through cracks in pavements and kerbs and jumps off his bike for a quick smell. Kerbside Violet is a rebirth, influenced by chance encounters on the street that spark a fleeting interest that just as quickly disappears around the corner. It's a reminder to look out for the tiny revolution growing through the cracks of a concrete jungle near you"

It pretty much goes without saying that Lush Kerbside Violet is a floral, a bright and robust floral that does lean a little sweet. The main note is of course Sweet Violet which comes through loud and clear, this is somewhat mellowed out by the white floral notes of jasmine and ylang ylang. In a round about way I saying this is a violet scent and an intense one at that. If you are a fan of Marc Jacobs Daisy and Tom Ford Violet Blonde this is one to seek out as it is very similar only far more affordable. Being a strong scent it lingers on the skin all day long and unlike other violet fragrances it doesn't dry down to a musky, powder scent by the end of the day. It starts of crisp, slightly sweet and stays that way for the entire day. Like I said in my initial post this is Parma Violet sweets amped up and I can't get enough. A great Spring/Summer scent that sound appeal to the masses!

Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder

Just about if not all cosmetic brands offer pressed powders and it goes without saying that some are better than others. In my opinion within the budget sector finding a great, everyday pressed powder is easier said than done; you want a product that will set your make-up, won't cake should you require a touch up throughout the day and is cheap enough to replace should it shatter within your bag - we've all been there at least one. Like I said it is not a small task but I feel I have found the answer within Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powders.

Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder

The Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder are presented within glossy, black plastic packaging that is more than robust. This well sized powder will more than survive daily knocks, rolling around at the bottom of your handbag. Not only is it sturdy but it contains all you will need for day to day use including a soft, silicone make-up sponge and a well sized mirror. Personally I do not use the sponge and find this powder best applies with a large fluffy brush but when in a jam I would happily use the provided applicator.

To the best of my knowledge there are six shades to choose from and I have the two typical suited to medium skin toned shades: 53 Beige Dore which is the lighter of the two and more yellow based and 55 Meil Dore which is deeper and more olive in tone. In my above swatches I have swiped heavily so you can see the shade but blended out the colour saturation is far less intense. I am currently wearing MAC NC30 in foundation and fine Beige Dore to be a good match. I must stress that unlike most setting powders the Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder do offer a little additional colour and coverage - the coverage can be built up to a medium level without caking or appearing heavy. If you have great skin or an aversion to liquid products I see no good reason why the Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder can not be used as a powder foundation.

Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder
Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder

At first I thought the Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder would be a great dupe for the Chanel Healthy Glow powders but in actual fact they are so much better and offer far more. The Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder not only offers a little additional coverage, a tint,  oil control but the light formulation also blurs imperfections such as fine lines and pores. The Bourjois Silk Edition Compact Powder blend like a dream - yes it is a powder (a soft, silky powder at that) but on the skin it feels like a cream and to a certain extent gel like. Bizarre but rather pleasant and cooling all the same. The beauty of this powder is that it doesn't cling to dry areas of the face nor does it further dry out the skin or ever look heavy - regardless if you are a little heavy handed like myself. On my currently combination skin one application stays in place around 7 hours before my oil creeps in around my t-zone/cheeks; not bad considering Bourjois only claim an 8 hour wear time which I'd imagine to be true for those with normal/dry complexions.

I realise this is heavy praise but I truly can not think of a better pressed powder on the UK high street.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Reviewing new products is wonderful and easily one of my favourite things to do full stop. However I do think it is equally important to revisit products I once raved about and perhaps forgot about along the way to see if they stand the test of time. A somewhat forgotten staple of mine was Laura Mercier Foundation Primer. I was recently sent a tube to try out and as it was just awarded Best Primer within the Instyle Beauty Awards 2015 I was keen to see if it still lived up to expectations.

When it comes to primers I rely on a formula that will not only grip onto my foundation, prolong the wear time of any base applied on top but also create a flawless canvas and control oil; if it can blur imperfections that also wouldn't go a miss. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer doesn't quite hide my enlarged pores but then again very little does, what it does do it evens out the skin before you apply your base, prolongs foundation wear time and to some extent it does control excess oil. By that I mean that those with oily skin like myself will still have to give their problem areas a little dusting of powder after around five hours or so of wear. Some primers can be overly matte and that is not what everyone is in the market for. The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer will not alter the finish of your foundation but it is one of the few that I find prevents powder products applied on top from becoming too heavy/cakey. It is a great general all round, suit all primer but if you have oily skin be prepared to carry powder around with you - then again most of us with oily skin already do!

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

With the warmer weather hopefully on the way the majority of us will be seeking out lighter formulas and this is where this primer slots in nicely. I highly recommend this if you have dry skin as it is hydrating without clogging the pores and does feel refreshing/cooling when you initially apply. It is also great should you have a drier complexion for preventing make-up from clinging to dry areas. For those with oily skin it will not overwhelm the skin even in the balmiest of temperatures. Out of all the primers that I own none feel quite as light, silken or comfortable on the skin as Laura Mercier Foundation Primer does. It is so lightweight almost gel like, so much so that it literally feels like you have nothing on your face and it allows the skin to breathe without altering the finish of your foundation. As an added bonus this primer contains vitamins A, C and E which act as antioxidants to protect the skin from harmful, ageing effects of the environment - great for city living. .As I have previously stated a great all round primer, one to reach for when in doubt and ideal for warmer weather as it not only cools but smooths and prepares the skin for anything applied on top. It is also wonderful applied over the eye lids should you wish to prolong eyeshadow/liner.

In a nutshell I still think this is a wonderful primer :great for everyone, not laden with silicones and a little goes a long way - so much so that I would suggest purchasing the travel sized version over the huge 50ml version.

The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream

I've spoken about my obsession surrounding eye cream several times now, if surrounded by skin care the first item I will hone in on is eye cream. I have quite the collection and will pat eye cream on several times a day. Oddly most eye creams are aimed at those who have already experienced the signs of ageing rather than those say in their mid twenties keen to ward off the hands of time for as long as possible. It is a huge gap in the market many brands are missing and as a result I don't often get to share eye creams for those within my age group never mind affordable options that is until a recent trip into The Body Shop. Enter The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream...

From what I have learned in store and online this is a gentle eye cream for those who are experiencing the first signs of ageing; it is generally suggested 25+ but if you are a sun worshipper or have a tendency to squint into the sun etc then you may want to use it sooner rather than later. Annoyingly I can not find the basic ingredient line up for the The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream so I can not tell you what the active ingredients are and why it work but at least I can tell you what it does do!

In my opinion The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream is the perfect night and day option, it smooths, soothes and hydrates as well as helping to prevent future ageing. It is suggested that for optimum results you use this both day and night which I have been doing - at night I team it with Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair for Eyes. The texture is light, silky and slightly silicone based in my opinion despite having a light, airy texture. It is quickly absorbed into the skin, doesn't leave behind any greasy residue, all the while smoothing and hydrating the skin. As far as I can tell it does offer some sort of anti-ageing technology but what I can't personally name as of yet (I will delve deeper). As this is aimed at those with only very first signs of ageing or those keen to prevent lines at a young age it will not be all that intense, rather my guess is that the main purpose is to keep the skin soft, supple and hydrated.

The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream moistures really well, more so than any other "young skin" aimed eye cream I have tried in recent times. It is hard to gauge just how well this works as I and most other tester's of this cream will not have any lines to monitor but I am pretty smitten and I will repurchase. If you are a fan of Clarins Eye Contour Balm but not so much this price this is a great alternative.

Lush Lullaby Shampoo Bar

As someone who shower's twice a day I am forever on the look out for products to help me unwind and promote a sound evening of rest. Admittedly I don't always wash my hair at night because who really wants to be blow drying after 9pm? Not me that is for sure but every now and the needs must and for such needs I fully recommend Lush Lullaby Shampoo Bar.

"The calming combination of chamomile, ground almonds and oat milk gently soothe the scalp. Raise the spirits with Tunisian sourced neroli oil, proven to aid the release of serotonin (the happy hormone)! Lavender oil and absolute relax and balance, ideal for children two years and up; pass over the hair once or work into a light lather in the hands first."

Lush Lullaby Shampoo Bar

First of all if you loathe lavender scented products there is a good chance this will not be the product that sways your opinion. As far as lavender fragrances go this is not at all offensive, fairly mild and milky thanks to the addition of almond and oat milk - combined with warm water this makes washing my hair a rather relaxing experience. Other than helping me to relax the Lush Lullaby Shampoo Bar is a fairly basic shampoo not that needs to be a negative stance, all I mean is that it doesn't do much else than gently cleanse my hair. As someone with dry hair I do need a little extra moisture but on the plus side this does not further strip my hair nor does it weigh it down and is perfect for everyday use. In the above official description Lush touched on the fact this is ideal for children, it is gentle yet will remove all traces of dirt/grime/what have you as well as being soothing both on the scalp and senses. If you have a little one you want to help calm and unwind before bed this could be a great product to keep on the side of the bath.

Lush Lullaby Shampoo Bar may not be my personal favourite but there is no denying that it does exactly all it claims to and is ideal for a pre-bed bath and/or shower routine.

Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette

As you may be aware Clinique have recently expanded their Aromatics fragrance range with the new addition of Clinique Aromatics in White Eau de Parfum. To celebrate the launch the brand unveiled two limited edition make-up products inspired by said fragrance. I'm not personally a fan of either fragrance but the Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette is rather irresistible. A neutral yet warm toned palette featuring six very wearable and adaptable eyeshadows that will suit just about everyone...

"Intensely pretty shades for eyes inspired by our new fragrance, Aromatics in White. Mix, match and layer to create a wardrobe of looks. Crease and fade resistant. Ophthalmologist tested, too. Here for a limited time only."

Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette

The Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette is pretty dinky, it fits comfortably into the palm of my hand making it perfect for those who travel a lot or for every day use without weighing down your bag. I personally prefer compact eyeshadow palettes as I do have storage issues. I should point out that the e pans of the eyeshadow palette are a little on the small size but most eyeshadow brushes should be able to slot into the pans with ease. The Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette comes with two foam applicators which I do not recommend using for applying eyeshadow but to each their own.

As you can see this is a pretty and somewhat neutral 6 pan eyeshadow palette. The shades run fairly warm with three shades of varying tones of brown, an olive green, a bright copper and a light highlighter. There is certainly an eyeshadow shade within the palette for all tastes, complexions and occasions - I would imagine this palette will easily take you from day to night with ease. Each eyeshadow is beautifully pigmented, all of which has a bright metallic finish that is brighting and not as scary as it may seem in my swatches - as you can see in below photos it can be applied heavily for an intense or blended out for more subtle wash of colour. The Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette is a dream to work with each shade more than packs a punch in terms of colour pay off, is easy to blend and teamed with a primer stays put for a good, solid 10 hours with ease.

The full shade line up is as follows (heavy and light swatches above):
Olive in my Martini - Dark, olive tinged metallic bronze.
Medium Shade of on Safari Quad - Light, yellow toned metallic olive green.
Dark Shade of Buttered Toast Duo - Medium yet slightly ruddy toned golden bronze.
At Dusk - True, bright metallic copper.
Light Shade of Beach Plum Duo - Yellow toned light bronze, sand by any other name.
Light Shade of Buttered Toast Duo - A bight, metallic white.

As you may have figured out you essentially gain the Clinique Buttered Toast Eyeshadow Duo along with four other eyeshadow shades within the Clinique Aromatics in White All About Shadow Eyeshadow Palette. If you enjoy bright, warm neutral eyeshadows I do think you will find this palette difficult to pass up on. I personally think it is perfect for the Summer both in colour selection and size for travelling.
