Birchbox Slimbox UK

We can all relate to the dismay of coming home only to be greeted by a glaring, red "sorry we missed you" delivery card from the postman. I would say there is nothing worse but that is being more than a little overly dramatic but it is annoying none the less. One brand hoping to ensure that they are not the cause of such dismay is Birchbox. Say hello to Birchbox - Slimbox...

Birchbox Slimbox UK
Birchbox Slimbox UK

All the same goodies as the regular box but is slim line packaging that can slot through most standard letterboxes. Genius. For the sake of scale I have shown the box with a nail polish and cream eyeshadow in front so you can see for yourself just how slim the box is. I sadly don't have an old, full size box to compare. Anyway here is what is inside this months box...

T London Darjeeling Hand and Body Lotion (sample size 50ml)
A light, silky, floral come citrus body lotion. From what I have experienced I don't think this would be ideal for really dry skin.

Liz Earle Beauty Co Botanical Shine Shampoo (sample size 50ml)
I have tried this is in the past, if memory serves me right it is gentle yet deeply cleansing shampoo.
It smells great slightly orange tinged and very, very fresh.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum (sample size 10ml)
I am a huge fan of the eye cream within the same range so I have high hopes for the matching serum. I have quickly applied this and can state that it has a light yet creamy consistency and is quickly absorbed by the skin.

Birchbox Slimbox UK

the Balm Cindy Lou Manizer (sample size)
I have the full size version of this super shimmery, peach toned highlighter. It is one of my personal favourites, it is a shame that the sizing of this is so small as it won't allow you to fully try it out on the face. I will most likely use this as an eyeshadow.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner in Black (full size/£11)
A black kohl pencil, not much else to say.

Birchbox Slimbox UK

The Chia Co - Oats and Chia (one sachet from a pack of five)
Personally I don't like the addition of food to beauty sample boxes, you pay for cosmetics so that is what you should receive. I'm sure not everyone will share my sentiments but none the less that is my view point. I don't like oats or chia so it is wasted on me.

You can opt to subscribe to the Birchbox, Slimbox here - link.
Prices start at £10.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils

Forget what you know about pencil eye liners as Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils are about to raise the bar and in turn change how you ever look at pencil liners. A broad spectrum of shades that include both pops of colours, as well as everyday staples this range of glide on, longer than long wearing liners belong in every make-up bag.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils have pretty standard packaging; a plastic type pencil that sharpens with such ease and with minimal product waste, a colour coordinated barrel for quick selection complete with a soft, silicone smudging tool at the base. This applicator doesn't pull or tug on the skin, making it ideal for smudging out harsh lines. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils have been created with functionality and ease of use in mind.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils

As mentioned above there is a fairly expansive shade variety within the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils - twenty two to be exact! I was kindly sent the shades: Chrome which is a soft, shimmering silver. If like myself you enjoy nude and/or white eye liner this may be a shade worth investigating as it offers similar yet more intense results, perhaps more suited to evening wear? The bright, silver hue opens and exaggerates the eye creating a doe eye effect - perfect for those like myself with small eyes and/or to hide a hangover (you didn't hear that from me ha!). The other shade I have is Olive Lustre - a deep, slightly golden tinged dark green. Again this has a slight shimmer element which is only really evident when blended out but is a great, softer alternative to a black liner. The depth of the green offers definition and drama without the harshness of a black liner - this shade would really compliment Hazel eyes.

So what sets the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils aside from the rest? They truly are the definition of gel liner in pencil form, nothing and I mean nothing (within the liner world) glides on to the skin quite like they do. There is no pulling tugging and no need for applied pressure as they are beyond pigmented. Although the formula is not identical, the colour pay off of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils can be likened to the Urban Decay 24/7 liners as can the staying power. Personally I have found the Estee Lauder version to be better suited to my oily skin, they don't smudge, smear or irritate my eyes, not to mention they stay in place on my waterline for up to five hours. Although soft in texture - which allows quick and easy blending, the pencils have a slightly firm form which allow precise application and sharp lines should you wish. Like most gel liners you can use them in the traditional sense - to line and define but should you wish the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils can double up as cream eyeshadows or a colourful base product. You do have to blend quickly if using in such manner as once they set they are going no-where fast.

I've said it once but I'll say it again, every make-up bag needs at least one shade of the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencils.

Ciate Liquid Chalk Collection for Spring 2015

If you enjoy matte nail polish, this coming March you are in for a treat as four new, pastel shades of Ciate Liquid Chalk are set to launch. For those who are not familiar with the Ciate Liquid Chalk formulation let me explain; they are full coverage, opaque in one coat, matte nail polishes that are a dream to apply. They dry instantly and are truly matte - no sheen, just flat colour.

As mentioned there are four new shades: Waunderlust - a light, milky mauve, Sweet Talk - an easy to wear light nude with grey undertones, Cheek to Cheek - a bright, carnation pink and Confess - a deeper, more traditional yet still muted nude tone. All four shades are perfect for the upcoming Spring season and the true matte finish really lends itself to nail art. I personally see the formulation and new shades as a modern take on traditional Spring hues.

Ciate Liquid Chalk Collection for Spring 2015

If you happen to own the original Ciate Blackboard Nail Kit (see photo above) you could always use the nail pens to create fun, custom designs? The same applies for any nail art pen really, the possibilities are endless. On the same note, if one of the four new shades realy grabs your attention but perhaps you dislike matte nails, a quick coat of a glossy top coat can and will instantly change the finish of the polish.

The new Ciate Liquid Chalk Collection for Spring 2015 will launch this coming March and the polishes will retail for £9 each or can be purchases in duo packs for £15.

Ciate Orange Chocolate Choc Pot

In early March Ciate will launch a new range of nail polish removing pots each of which has a chocolate based scent. Unlike other nail polish removing post these are really dinky in size making them perfect for travel - it also doesn't hurt that they are not prone to spilling the liquid remover, should you want to lug one around in your handbag.

Ciate Orange Chocolate Choc Pot

I was kindly sent the Ciate Orange Chocolate Choc Pot to test out and that I did. I must warn that until the nail polish remover dries on the fingers it stinks much like any other polish remover - once dry it quickly switches to a sweet, orange chocolate based fragrance. Think Terry's Chocolate Orange and you won't go far wrong. I rather like that the pot is fairly small, it oddly makes use easier especially if you have small hands like myself. I found that the Ciate Choc Pots remove regular polish fairly quickly and with ease but glitter polishes tend to be more cumbersome...isn't that always the case?

Ciate Orange Chocolate Choc Pot

The Ciate Choc Pots are acetone free, enriched with nourishing Marula Oil, Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E to ensure your nails and surrounding skin are protected and prevent the nail beds from drying out. At £6 I would say considering the added novelty factor they aren't terribly overpriced and a nice change from your typical, chemical scented remover.

Ciate Orange Chocolate Choc Pot will cost £6 and launch this coming March.

Bella Freud Loving Candle

Forget that this is most likely aimed at those looking for an uber chic Valentine's Day gift and appreciate what it is. A wonderfully scented and beautifully designed candle. A Bella Freud candle no less.

Those who are familiar with Bella Freud fragrances and perhaps the brand as a whole will know that Ms.Freud has an uncanny ability to create modern day , quirky classics. For instance this candle neatly ticks all the boxes for those looking for a Valentine's Day gift - red, floral and yet it doesn't rely on a rose note. Basically with Bella Freud expect the unexpected and know that it will be wonderful. As a side note each candle is hand poured within the UK and for a clean burn all Bella Freud Candles are natural soy wax.

"Tuberose and Sandalwood. Tantalising notes of Tuberose absolute sitting in the heart, caressed by the warmth of Amber Crystals and silently balanced by Sandalwood."

I personally would deem the Bella Freud Loving fragrance as a Spring scent, fresh, uplifting and floral. Unlike the majority of "Spring" aimed floral scents this has a certain warmth, making it perfect for curling up with in the chilly evenings - which don't tend to pass here in the UK until at least April. In my opinion the Tuberose note is most prevalent and helps to create a romantic mood within any room. The overall fragrance is strong yet not overpowering, it gently trickles throughout the entire house, filling each room as it goes and lingers for a good few hours after the initial burn.

Can we quickly glance over how wonderful the design of the Bella Freud Loving Candle? I can not get enough of the understated yet attention grabbing matte red packaging which will be re-purposed time and time again when the candle held within is a distant memory. In my mind Bella Freud Loving is a 1970's love story with a modern edge.

Forget Valentine's Day, you deserve this. You really do.

Jo Malone Red Roses Candle

If ever there was a month to embrace rose scents it is February.
Why? Valentines Day is just around the corner of course and with that there is an abundance of rose fragranced products at every turn. Very few compare to the indulgent Jo Malone Red Roses scent. If you purchase one rose scented product this year let it be from the Jo Malone range, I promise you won't regret it.

As regular readers will undoubtedly know, I went through a rose phase, everything for my body had to be scented by such bloom and then like most things I grew tired of such fragrance. That was until I was introduced to Jo Malone Red Roses - one whiff of this intense yet true to life fragrance and I was transported back to a happy sun soaked summer spent in Turkey and Bulgaria.
What sets this apart from your typical rose scent is the complexity of notes, which include a blend of seven of the world's most exquisite roses blended with crushed violet leaves and a hint of lemon. It's fresh yet deep and not at all powdery like some dated rose offerings. This is my second Jo Malone Red Roses Candle (yep I had to repurchase it is that good) I can vouch that it fills the room with a realistic floral fragrance within minutes and lingers for hours on end. If like myself you tend to light a few candles at once this is one of those few rare scents that layers well with both fruity and other floral fragrances - much like the original Jo Malone Red Roses Cologne. I personally like it burning alongside Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay Candle for deep, fruity aroma.

Send hits to your significant other now or heck treat yourself to this candle and/or the matching cologne, it will be around a lot longer than a bunch of red roses that is for sure!

Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette

Today sees the launch of the latest Dolce and Gabbana fragrance - Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette. A lighter, fresher sister scent to the original Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Eau de Parfum, delicate and perfectly suited to the upcoming Spring months...

Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette

"Dolce Floral Drops has the rare beauty of a fresh, floral scent. The Eau de Toilette is inspired by the notes of Dolce Eau de Parfum, preserving it’s harmonious signature of white flowers, with a heart of White Amaryllis. Dolce Floral Drops combines these ingredients with the lively and crisp green opening of Neroli leaves, that enriches its character and defines its freshness right from the opening of the fragrance. The Dolce Floral Drops bottle recalls the unique shape of Dolce: thick glass, curved lines and a solid bottom, with a cap in the shape of a sculpted flower with milky white petals. Frosted glass gives it a misty green colour, presenting a dew-kissed tone, and expressing the fresh delicateness of the fragrance."

Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette

Dolce Floral Drops is reminiscent of the original Dolce fragrance - a white floral that is slightly aquatic with hints of green notes, I would say this is lighter and fresher than its predecessor. Refreshing yet delicate, like a light Spring rain on a mild, sunny day or perhaps a morning dew. One mist of this will have you longing for pretty pastel clothing and being able to ditch your Winter coat once and for all. It is very much a young fragrance which I personally enjoy and would say that although they do not smell anything at all alike fans of the likes of Marc Jacobs Daisy Daydream will lap this up as will those who enjoy the original Dolce Eau de Parfum. This will undoubtedly be my go to Spring scent for 2015.

I can't think of a better quote to sum up this beautiful new fragrance than this - “Dolce Floral Drops is fresh and light, yet as precious as a morning caress.” - Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette Review

Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum

Imagine if you could bust blemishes and nourish your skin while you slept at night? Wouldn't that be the dream (excuse the terrible pun)? Well the newest Witch Skincare product aims to do just that
- Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum...

"Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum; ideal for those with sensitive and spot-prone skin. The powerful serum, formulated to minimise breakouts during the night, also works to help prevent future blemishes from surfacing. The oil-free formula is visibly hydrating, helping to leave skin radiant and clear when you wake up. As well as containing Witch Skincare’s signature witch hazel extract to clear and contract pores, the formula is rich in vitamin B3 (niacinamide), renowned for its moisturising benefits and ability to promote an even skin tone while you sleep."

Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum

If you are familiar with Witch Skincare products you will know that the vast majority have a slightly medicinal scent - this is no different and is due to the addition of natural Witch Hazel Oil. I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of the Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum: light, silky and on par with an expensive serum in terms of consistency. It quickly absorbs into the skin without irritation feels instantly hydrating and does not clog my pores (something I have to be pretty vigilant with as I am prone to black heads - what a lovely image) nor will it overwhelm oily skin or further dry out dry/dehydrated complexions. It is pretty clever, seemingly it does dry out blemishes - speeding up the skins natural recovery process without irritating the surrounding skins natural moisture balance.

Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum

As with any blemish aimed product to expect this to be the solution to all your skin care woes is over stretching. If like myself you are prone to cystic break outs this will not do anything for you or said problem but for those annoying little white heads I do find it clears them up fairly quickly compared to leaving them to their own devices. I can't fully comment on the redness aspect as my skin is fairly even and dull in tone but the Witch Skincare Overnight Clearing Serum does make the surrounding skin around blemishes seem less angry and inflamed. You can use this nightly to prevent breakouts from occurring or use this as an if and when treatment to speed up the healing process. You can use it as a solo product or underneath your usual night cream should you wish.

Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel

If like myself you don't have a bath tub of your own, then most likely you become most excited about the newest shower gel launches. Even if I did have a bath tub I'm sure my excitement wouldn't wane as who has time for a full, relaxing bath each morning? Not me that is for sure. The newest and sadly limited edition shower launch from Lush is Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel.

This is the first edition of Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel in which I have enjoyed the scent. This time around it is less fruity based (I'm almost certain that previous editions were passion fruit based which is less than a favourite of mine) and more candy/vanilla in fragrance. If you like fluffy, sweet, vanilla and/or marshmallow scents then I have a sneaky feeling you will enjoy this. A few have asked me if this is at all similar to Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel and I wouldn't say so - this has a more creamy, vanilla based note where as Snow Fairy was sharper and more fruity based. Perhaps the best way to think of it as a more mellow vanilla scent but both are fairly sweet and dare I say it "cute".

As with all Lush shower gels this is gentle yet effectively cleanses my skin without stripping or drying out my skin, it is not the most moisturising of formulas so you may find that you do still require a body moisturiser after use. You can also Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel as a bubble bath as it foams rather well and should you wish even a shampoo - depending on how dry your hair is.

MAC Ultimate Collection February 2015

Unlike many of the MAC collections that come and go it looks like the soon to launch MAC Ultimate Collection will be permanent. Great news in two aspects: if you fall in love with a product or shade you don't need to worry about a back up and you can put off purchasing, free from worry of it selling out.

"The epitome of bold luxury, MAC Ultimate combines an innovative design aesthetic with the sumptuous formulas of our Ultimate Lipstick and Sheer Mystery Powder. Ten new lip colours are utterly chic, while Sheer Mystery Powder smooths onto skin in luminous hues that are barely there. Perfectly encased in modern geometric designs, this stand out packaging features a sleek chrome finish in two cult-collectible accessories."

I personally will be holding off from purchasing to begin with so I can go in-store and have a play around with the powders etc. I will say that the packaging is nothing short of fabulous and will be sure to draw a good few of us in. I believe this will launch next week online and on counters here in the UK.

"A guide to home made natural remedies, make-up looks and at-home therapies that enhance your natural beauty. It shows you how to prepare products in your own home that are guaranteed to make your whole body look and feel gorgeous. It comes with over 100 organic product recipes, such as anti-ageing eye creams and exfoliating masks."

Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book

I don't tend to feature many beauty books simply because there is an abundance of beauty books out there, some good, some great and others aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Luckily the Neal's Yard Remedies Books tend to focus on educating the reader using facts rather than filler. The Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book isn't any different, brimming full of recipes, facts and D.I.Y Ideas.

Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book
Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book

Each page is beautifully written and photographed, with clear concise instructions and/or information you may want to know. I rather like that the book covers pretty much all aspects of beauty and caters to all ages which is evident in their choice of models for any tutorial - all ages and all skin tones have been selected. As with every novel of this time it has a unique selling point and in my opinion it is the ingredient breakdown/directory so to speak, if you have ever wondered what is in your favourite skin care item but feel bogged down by scientific jargon this is the book for you. Not only are certain ingredients broken down in clear, easy to understand speak but Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book also states why said ingredient is used and the benefits.

Personally I am not a huge fan of beauty tutorials composed via photography, especially since we have Youtube at our fingertips - it seems a little dated in comparison but I do have to state that brand have ensure they are easy to follow none the less. If like myself you enjoy rustling up a face mask or hair treatment in your kitchen this book will not disappoint, the "recipes" are well considered and not the run of the mill idea you will find after a quick Google search.

Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Book is how beauty books should be; educational yet fun, facts not fluff. A highly recommend beauty read.

My Longest Wearing Foundations and a Tip

Following on from "My Longest Wearing Make-Up Picks" post, I have gathered up my little hoard of hard working, long wearing foundations. As Make Up Forever has yet to launch within in the UK I have left out both Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation and Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation but if you do have the means to pick up either I can not recommend them enough. Can you tell I am counting down the days until Make Up Forever touches down in Debenhams? Anyway below is my top five picks - four liquids and a powder, for just about every budget and skin type...

My Longest Wearing Foundations and a Tip

L'Oreal True Match Foundation £9.99 via Boots - link.

Easily one of my favourite budget foundations ever, no scratch the budget element; it is one of my favourite foundations. Full stop. A light weight yet medium to full coverage formulation that glides on to the skin and is easily buffed or blended into the skin for a seamless finish. You can layer this on for a fuller coverage or use a buffing brush for a sheerer approach, it covers just about every skin imperfection without caking or looking/feeling heavy on the skin nor does it look flat. The shade range is phenomenal and set with a little powder this will not budge, even on the oiliest of skin types for a good 10+ hours. I would say this is ideal for all skin types even dry complexions as it doesn't cling to rough areas of the skin nor will it further dehydrate the skin. It is fairly moisturising/nourishing yet won't overwhelm oily complexions. Basically to try this is to love it, I think everyone should own a bottle.

Benefit Big Easy Multi Balancing Complexion Perfector £20.62 via Feel Unique - link.

Perhaps you prefer a lighter coverage? If so one of the longest wearing, lightweight bases I have stumbled across has to be Benefit Big Easy Multi Balancing Complexion Perfector .The texture of Benefit Big Easy Multi Balancing Complexion Perfector veers on creamy, which I initially thought would result in heavy coverage and shiny skin. I couldn't have been more wrong. On the skin it feels lighter than air, is super easy (a liquid to powder formula) to buff into the skin, it works just as well with your fingertips and/or a beauty blender. The coverage is pretty light/sheer but it does even out the skin tone and hides redness too. The good news is that it builds with ease and never looks heavy nor does it cake or oxidise throughout the course of wear (around 9 hours with a primer and a powder). In my opinion the end finish is semi-matte, shine is gone but the skin doesn't look completely matte or flat - I do still set this with a finishing powder. If you have dry skin I'm not sure I would recommend the Benefit Big Easy Multi Balancing Complexion Perfector, it isn't drying by any means but I did find it clung to my the skin around nose which is a little dry but on the plus side it did help keep my t-zone shine free. This is the "foundation" I reach for when at my oiliest and in humid weather and/or the summer months.

My Longest Wearing Foundations and a Tip

Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation £28.50 via Debenhams - link

If you want a perfectly matte base, that almost look airbrushed then this is the foundation for you. I kid you not when I say it is almost weightless. You can apply several layers of this product should you wish and it will not cake nor does it feel heavy on the skin which could make it ideal for the upcoming summer months. Being so lightweight you wouldn't expect it to offer great coverage but it truly does. I feel medium coverage is under selling this foundation as it covers more than any other medium coverage foundation I own and yet it is not quite full coverage...it is somewhere is the middle for lack of a better term. Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation covers any redness, discolouration, dark circles and most other skin concerns but you may want to add a dab of concealer to blemishes. It glides on like a second skin and settles to a semi-matte finish that looks both soft and natural, not to mention it doesn't sit in enlarged pores or lines of any kind. The great thing about this foundation is the wear time on my oily skin it doesn't budge or become shiny throughout the day - I'm talking a good 10 hours of wear with ease. The downside of this is that it does have quite an alcoholic fragrance which my guess is due to it being an ingredient so those with dry skin may want to avoid it!

Clarins Everlasting Foundation £27 via Boots - link.

Clarins foundation in general are incredible and so easily overlooked. If you require a fully matte base that will not budge, give way to oil yet doesn't appear flat you need Clarins Everlasting Foundation. A liquid to powder finish foundation that gives the appearance of velvet soft, flawless skin that oddly looks fresh and radiant. I would deem Clarins  Everlasting Foundation to be full coverage as it makes light work of evening out the skin tone, disguising blemishes and lightly blurring enlarged pores. It is comfortable to wear, almost weightless and does not budge for a good 10 or so hours. This is one of the few foundations in which I can skip primer and setting powder and know that I will still achieve around 6 hours of oil free wear which is impressive given I have beyond oily skin at times. I will review this foundation in full very soon, until then trust me you need to give this a whirl.

Tarte Amazon Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation £34 via QVC - link

Now for the trick/tip, perhaps you don't want to own or try any of the above foundations for whatever reason but need more than a pressed/loose powder to ensure your foundation will stay in place for a special occasion? Although I don't rate Tarte Amazon Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation as a stand alone foundation something wonderful occurs when buffed into the skin over and liquid foundation. If you want a flawless, high coverage finish that the Kardashian sisters would be jealous of this is the product for you. This mineral powder foundation blurs imperfections, sets make-up and keeps everything in place. On average when I buff this on top of a foundation I can pretty much guarantee that my base will look perfect for up to 12 hours which is impressive. Yes it is quite a heavy finish but at least you can turn any foundation/base you own into a high coverage, long wearing product whenever needs must! This is suitable for all skin types even dry complexions.

I hope this is somewhat helpful, if there are any other long wearing edits you would like me to compose do let me know!

My Longest Wearing Foundations and a Tip

Yes it is quite a heavy finish but at least you can turn any foundation/base you own into a high coverage, long wearing product whenever needs must! This is suitable for all skin types even dry complexions.

Jo Malone Intense Dark Amber and Ginger Lily Cologne

Did I mention that I am obsessed with Jo Malone Intense colognes? Oh I did. If you have ever tested Jo Malone Intense Dark Amber and Ginger Lily fragrance be it in candle or cologne form I am more than sure you would understand. It is the type of fragrance that you could bathe in...well if you happen to be a multi-millionaire of course.

"Rare Kyara wood. Prized in the Kohdo ceremony, the highly ritualised Japanese art of incense appreciation. Enriched with amber and black orchid. Illuminated by the clean sensuality of black cardamom, ginger and water lily. Calm and relaxing."

I was a little late to the party concerning the Jo Malone Intense colognes, I foolishly deemed the glossy, black packaging to instantly correlate to men's fragrance. Silly when I have been known to mist on an aftershave or two in my time. I digress, the striking packaging has been incorporated to depict the fact that the notes and altogether fragrance line is more powerful and intense hence the name. Basically what I am trying to convey in a round about way is don't be off put by the packaging, I can hand on heart say that the Jo Malone Intense range has some of the most beautiful fragrances I have ever experienced.

Summing up Jo Malone Intense Dark Amber and Ginger Lily Cologne is tricky without overusing the term sublime, over and over again. It truly is exquisite, floral, clean (I instantly think of freshly washed Egyptian Cotton), comforting and long wearing - one quick mist will linger on the skin for the entire duration of a day. It neatly fits into the sensual, woody floral box without being overwhelming, dated or powdery. Although the majority of Jo Malone fragrance are aimed at being unisex this is most certainly a gentle, feminine scent. If you are a fan of Malin & Goetz Dark Rum Eau de Toilette but want something a little deeper and longer wearing this is the fragrance for you. No they are not identical but somewhat similar. I think Jo Malone Intense Dark Amber and Ginger Lily Cologne may be my favourite cologne ever and trust me that is no mean feat.

Flamingo Candles Love Bug Glitter Valentine Candle

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, collective groans all round - I jest of course. I happen to actually like day of "love" as most brands put out rather cute collections, with most of the bath and body products being sweetly scented. I have noticed in the past few years many are stepping away from the traditional rose fragrances and veering towards more candy and lighter, often white floral notes. If that is more suiting to your preference then you may want to treat yourself or a loved one to the new and limited edition Flamingo Candles Love Bug Glitter Valentine Candle.

"Love Bug combines blends of mandarin and petitgrain, with subtle undertones of cinnamon. Lilac glitter is mixed with our hot pink soywax to create the most sumptuous Valentine treat. J’adore!"

Do you recall those soft, almost foam like Rhubarb and Custard stick shaped sweets (if not this link is for you that could often be found in pick n mix's (come back Woolworths all is forgiven, we miss you!)? Well this is exactly what the Flamingo Candles Love Bug Glitter Valentine Candle reminds me of. Sweet yet somewhat fruity but not overly sugary or synthetic, it is rather lovely and dare I say it cutesy. The cute factor is only amped but the pretty pink glitter added to the wax for a little extra pizazz.

If like myself you are a little over rose fragrances but want something to mark Valentine's day, be it for yourself or a loved one this could be just what you are looking for.

NYX HD Finishing Powder

One thing I don't think I will ever fully commit to is loose powders, by that I mean I can find what I would deem to be the perfect powder and still have an urge to switch brands in the hope of finding something better. I will try anything; budget, blow out and all that is in between which is where I would say NYX HD Finishing Powder slots in. It has to be one of the better loose powders I have tried and if you are looking for a powder to set, control oil and blur imperfections you could do a lot worse than NYX HD Finishing Powder.

"Why White? Don't let the white colour turn you off because this powder is a miracle in a jar. 100% pure mineral silica finishing powder that is perfect for setting foundation or wearing alone. This powder leaves your skin looking radiant and luminous, while absorbing oil for that flawless matte finished look. A colourless shade that can be used for all skin tone as it applies neutral."

NYX HD Finishing Powder

There's not much to say about the packaging of NYX HD Finishing Powder it is essentially like any other loose powder out there - a large screw top jar with an inbuilt sifter. I would say that the packaging is fairly inoffensive and looks pricer than it actually is. You get 6g per pot which may not sound like a whole lot but a little goes a long way, I would estimate that even with daily use this should last you anywhere up to six months.

NYX HD Finishing Powder

As you can see NYX HD Finishing Powder is of course translucent and has the same fine milled texture, light weight, almost cooling sensation that I find is present in almost every HD Powder. Much like other powders of this type it can leave a white cast on the skin if not fully buffered into the skin (I find a flat top brush works best). Unlike other cheaper HD setting powders what sets this aside is the blurring aspect, it gently softens the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores and other uneven surfaces without caking or gathering into any lines or pores. As for oil control it seems to keep shine at bay with ease even on the oiliest of skin types and humid situations, my only criticism is that it can be a little drying on the skin and leave the complexion looking flat. I am not sure that I would use this for day to day wear rather I'd most likely keep it for evening wear as the finish can be a little too matte but to each their own. As a heads up any unblended powder will flash back in flash photography, if you plan on taking photos you may want to do a test shoot before heading out for a night on the tiles.
