In the depths of Winter, I think we are all thankful for a warming scented candle or two - typically around this time of the year the majority of home scent options are bogged down with spices, berries and pine accents. As nice as such fragrances are, sometimes a change of pace is what is needed and for that I have just the thing - cheery, festive yet uplifting orange based scents. What could be more perfect on a chilly, wet, Winter evening?

I have a soft spot for Orla Kiely candles; not only are the packaging and scent combinations truly wonderful but they burn so well too. Forget weak, non-detectable candles and those that are so strong they are headache inducing - Orla Kiely candles are the perfect middle ground, they don't dominate the room yet they do greet you with their delightful aroma each time you enter a room. Orla Kiely Orange Rind Candle is fresh, sweet and zesty - very much like real orange rind. It is oddly rather festive, I think it would be a wonderful addition to any December dinner table.
La Montana Winter Oranges Candle £35 - link
I hate to pick favourites but I would only be lying if I didn't state that La Montana Winter Oranges Candle is my favourite of the bunch and maybe out of my stash of Winter candles too. A fresh, comforting, rich and warming scent that combines notes of orange, cinnamon and clove - it oddly reminds me of freshly baked Pannetone (a bread like Italian Christmas cake). I plan on burning this from Christmas Eve onwards.
Ikea Orange Candle £2
Ikea candles are often overlooked in a haze of self assembly panic but if you are on a budget and/or simply want a lovely, long burning classic orange candle, then you could do far worse than hitting your local Ikea store. Admittedly the Ikea Orange candle is a little basic in design and scent but it is delightfully sweet, long lasting and surprisingly offers a great scent throw. Stock up and thank me later.
A bizarre and fun fact, as a child I used to swap my brothers my chocolate coins at the bottom of my stocking for their Clementine. To this day I have no real idea as I don't particularly enjoy fruit other than grapes.

I have never gone for an orange one, will need to pick one up next time I am in yankee to try out the scents. I still haven't decided to splash out on a high end candle yet... I really want to!
