Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette Review

When the first images of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette trickled onto social media, I swore there and then that the palette would be mine. My mind frame quickly changed when I saw it in person, I have no shame in admitting that I deemed it to be too dinky - especially to warrant the hefty £65 price tag. Long haul flights and jet lag do terrible things to a person - for 8 hours, all I could think of was the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette and how foolish I was not to hand over the cash while in Sephora.

Most people use long haul flights to slap on a face mask and maybe catch up on a few movies or two, I like to use them to both taught myself of missed make-up opportunities and then swear to rectify them. A full and exciting life I live, clearly.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette is now safely in my clutches and truthfully I don't regret clicking purchase; yes the palette and pans of powder are a little on the small side (most of my blush brushes, fluffy inclusive fit neatly into each pan) but it is perfect for travel, and day to day use. Much like previous launches, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette come presented in an off gold, plastic compact that is both pretty and robust, not to mention it does contain a great sized mirror too.

Sizing issues aside, the other real grumble that others very rightly have is that four out of the six shades within the kit have been in previous palettes, with only one shade being entirely new and exclusive to the line up. Not a big deal if this is your first dabble with the brand but if like myself you own a few blushes, ambient powders and the two previous palettes you will end up with duplicate shades. On the plus side the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette does neatly pack: two blushes, two ambient lighting powders, a stand alone highlighter and a bronzer - essentially all you would need for a beautifully glowing complexion.

The shades inside the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette are as follows:

Dim Light - A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights the complexion, a great setting powder and/or subtle highlighter for medium to deep complexions.

Diffused Light - A soft, warm, pale yellow powder that conceals redness and creates a subtle, lit within glow.

Iridescent Strobe Light (exclusive and new) - A soft pink pearl powder that gives a refined glow to the complexion, this particular powder was created with the strobing trend in mind. Apply anywhere you want to add a subtle, shot of shimmer.

Mood Exposure - A soft plum blush fused with mood light lighting powder to brighten the complexion, a great Autumnal come Winter shade that pairs well with a deep lip colour.

Luminous Flush - A champagne rose blush fused with luminous light lighting powder to evoke a candlelit glimmer, a great everyday blush shade for most.

Luminous Bronze Light - A medium tan come bronze shade fused with luminous light for a softer, candlelit warmth. Due to the shimmer particles I don't recommend contouring with this powder.

In my humble opinion very little beats Hourglass powder products, they impart a subtle yet shimmering effect onto the skin without ever settling into my enlarged pores nor ever appearing over the top. Each blush, bronzer and general lighting powder is finely milled and as such they not only apply beautifully but will not cling to dry areas of skin. I rather like that each shade - bronzer and highlighter inclusive is beyond easy to apply and very difficult to over apply. On the downside, this may mean that certain powders within the palette may be a little too light in tone and colour pay off for deeper complexions. If subtle, high quality, light infusing powders is your calling this is the palette you have been waiting for - just don't leave it too late as it is a limited edition launch.
