Bourjois Air Mat Foundation Review

For many years I have regarded Bourjois to be King of the foundation world. I adore the glowy, mid to full coverage, the great price and the fact that most shades are yellow based - a match made in heaven for my oily complexion. Well Bourjois are branching out from the dewy world of bases and now offer an entirely affordable matte foundation, complete with an expanded shade range. Ladies and gentlemen let me share a few thoughts on the newly launched Bourjois Air Mat Foundation.

Bourjois Air Mat Foundation Review

Unlike past bottles of Bourjois foundations, Bourjois Air Mat Foundation does not come presented within a typical bottle, rather the newest launch features an easy to use squeeze tube. In the past my experience with tubes of this style haven't been great but I have to hand it to Bourjois, this dispenses foundation easily, doesn't leak and unlike a bottle you can pretty much scrape out every ml of foundation.

Bourjois Air Mat Foundation comes in 9 shades, ranging in light to deep and with warm and cool undertones too. I have not tried every shade so I can't vouch if they run light enough for the palest of skin tones and if the deeper options are adequate; I do however think it is a start and think more high street brands should expand both ends of the shade spectrum. I was kindly sent Bourjois Air Mat Foundation in 02 Vanilla and 03 Beige Clair. Oddly shade 02 Vanilla is the deeper of the two and has a slight pink undertone, the other Beige Clair is again light but with a yellow undertone. I would deem both to be good matches for those who wear approximately MAC NC/NW 15-20 in foundation. Of course don't take my word for it, after all that is what the testers are for. I want to quickly add that this particularly foundation is scented, it has an almost floral fragrance which may not be ideal for sensitised or easily irritated skin.

The texture of Bourjois Air Mat Foundation is interesting - a light, very loose liquid that is quick to absorb into the skin and quickly transforms into a powder finish. The beauty of this foundation is the texture, it really does live up to the lighter than air promise, apparently it has been infused with air to ensure that it is weightless. If you despise the sensation of liquid foundation and often feel suffocated (for lack of a better term) then this could be one to try, it somewhat reminds me of MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation but this version is less hydrating and offers a higher level of coverage. Bourjois Air Mat Foundation offers medium to full coverage - it builds with ease, is not prone to caking and somewhat optically blurs enlarged pores and fine lines. Sounds great huh? Well it is, as long as you have normal to oily skin, dry complexions should steer clear as it clings to any sign of dryness and can further dehydrate the skin. On the plus side it does help to control excess sebum, all with a natural, almost velvet like matte finish. If you have normal skin I would imagine that this is one of those rare foundations that you could probably skip setting powder should you wish. On my oily skin with a primer and a dusting of loose powder, Bourjois Air Mat Foundation wears perfectly for up to 8 hours.

All in all I would deem Bourjois Air Mat Foundation to be another great addition to the already outstanding foundation franchise, especially if you have an oily complexion.
