Can you believe that Sophia Loren is 81! Incredible. To celebrate Sophia Loren's birthday and iconic status Dolce & Gabbana have created a limited edition lipstick Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick. Such lipstick has been dubbed Sophia Loren's signature shade and of course comes within a sophisticated golden case - complete with Ms. Loren's autograph printed onto the tube. It is a rare shade in that it is not only limited addition but will appeal to all ages and should suit the majority if not all complexions.
As I've mentioned the packaging above, I won't go into much more detail other on such topic other than stating that the lipstick case is weighted for a luxurious feel and of course to aid application. It is a joy to use, admire and of course show off to others - heck if you pay £31 for a lipstick you have to enjoy it, and enjoy it I shall.
Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is officially described as a bright cherry red, that has been created to enhance the natural deep pigmentation of Ms.Loren's lips. I will agree that D&G Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is a red of some description, however it is neither bright, nor cherry in tone. Rather I would describe Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick as a light, dusky almost pink toned red that almost veers a little on the nude side. A subdued, understated, almost red if you wish, that should look wonderfully natural on most complexions - as much I hate to utter the following phrase, Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is the epitome of "my lips but better".
What makes this lipstick shade so special is that it will appeal to all ages; myself (20's) and my sister (teens) cooed over D&G Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick when it first arrived, both my Mother (40's) and Grandmother (70's) have commented on what a beautiful shade it is. Pricey, yes but it is not often a lipstick shade has such broad appeal.
As to be expected from a D&G lipstick the formulation is utterly wonderful, a soft almost butter like texture that glides on to the lips, offering both a slick of colour and hydration. Despite being dubbed a sheer lipstick I would deem Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick to be fairly pigmented as the above swatches indicate, it does however boast a lightweight texture that is non-sticky yet slightly glossy to create the illusion of fuller lips. After three days of continuous wear I can vouch that D&G Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is long wearing (around three hours per application) and is not prone to bleeding, feathering nor collecting into dry areas/fine lines around the mouth.
Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is exclusive to Harrods and costs £31, it has not went online as of yet.

The lipstick is really pretty and a nice homage to Sophia Loren, this is my favourite kind of pink. But hey at £31, the colour is almost too common for that price haha (I know, it's D&G, but still) that's not something I would consider buying for myself. As a present though, it can be a cool idea!

Beautiful , as is the lady it was made for!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you mentioned your grandmother in her 70's. I'm in my late 60s and sometimes worry that I am looking at things that are too young for me. I am a pink girl, mostly, but have found as I aged and my skin changed, that I usually have to head for peachy pinks. This lipstich looks like a light to medium pink, so maybe I could still pull it off!
OH WOW. This shade so SO gorgeous, definitely the type of thing I would go for.

This colour Is what I would call "Old Rose", or what in the 1920's would have been called "Ashes of Roses," enlivened with a touch of raspberry red. I am a brunette and have been wearing a very similar shade since my 20's and it is such an ageless hue that in my late 60's, I have never yet found another shade I like better. It's an instant classic.
ReplyDeleteI read bright, cherry red and though am I looking at the right pictures! It's not a great description of the shade is it but it does look like a very pretty shade x
