Real Techniques Core Collection

Yesterday was Amazon Prime day and a lot of best selling products were vastly reduced in price, I was a little late to the party and only managed to snag the Real Techniques Core Collection but other brush kits were also on offer. Truthfully I didn't need the Real Techniques Core Collection as I do already own every brush within the set (some twice over) but as it was only £9.99 and features some of my favourite brushes I thought why not? It doesn't hurt to have back up brushes - especially come wash day (can I get a collective groan?). As I have owned the Real Techniques Core Collection (albeit not the new shiny set in the photos) since it first launched a good few years ago I do feel I am more than equipped to give you a full review and run down of each brush, should you need to be swayed into trying the Real Techniques brushes.

Real Techniques Core Collection Review

Perhaps an odd admission but I am not at all a fan of the packaging that any of the Real Techniques brush sets come within, I never use the black case come stand and find it a little bulky. I do however commend the brand for not only providing a storage solution but also a method of easily displaying the brushes while in use. I typically tend to pick and choose what brushes I am going to use and pop them in a make-up bag for travel etc, everyday use is a little more slap dash if I am entirely honest. All of the brushes within the Real Techniques Core Collection feature bronze come golden ferrules, black silicone handles for easy grip - they look both ascetically pleasing yet professional at the same time.

The Real Techniques Core Collection contains four brushes:

The Real Techniques Detailer Brush- A small, rounded and flat brush that works well either used with concealer to target very specific areas or as a lip/eye liner brush. I find it works best with lipsticks but then again I forever have huge blemishes and don't use liquid or gel liners on a daily basis. It is a great multi-purpose brush that forever comes in handy!

Real Techniques Contour Brush - A must in my opinion for anyone who highlights and contours be it regularly or not. The shape allows you to apply a light dusting of powder to the contours of the face, or blend out cream products seamlessly. The small slightly tapered brush head slots neatly into all the facial contours taking care of all harsh make-up lines.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush- Typically I use this brush for foundation, if you dream of an airbrush finish then this is the brush to reach for. It truly makes light work of buffering foundation be it liquid, cream or powder form into the skin for a seamless finish. I tend to be a little heavy handed when it comes to foundation and I find that this brush prevents me from over applying yet doesn't alter the finish of my foundation. You can also use it to apply cream blushes for a soft, dewy finish. Recently I have been using it with powder highlighters for a more intense finish (I'm all about that strobing yo'!) but would recommend a softer brush if you prfer a softer effect from powder cheek products.

Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush - I find this to be too small for my foundation needs, unless using it for a touch up or something of that nature, other wise the small flat paddle style brush would take forever to cover an entire face. I have found this to be better suited to concealer; be it applying it to the under eye area, to highlight or to simply cover blemishes this has it all under control due to small, pointed brush head. It is soft yet firm so you can easily build up coverage in any areas you require it - the angled tip also allows for precision application and is great for applying cream contour and highlighting products.

I can say with 100% honesty that I have never experienced any problems with any of my Real Techniques brushes; not only wash well - no splaying, shedding or breaking but they do tend to last the test of time. Sure the writing on the handles may come off due to use and washing but they are not prone to snapping or general mishaps. Some of the my Real Techniques Brushes (not photographed) are over two years old and still going strong, there is a reason just about everyone owns at least one Real Techniques brush - they deliver and do so without breaking the bank. Consider me a fan girl!
