I consider myself to be open minded; both in life and with beauty choices and yet I seldom purchase or investigate indie brands for cosmetic purposes, which is a shame as there are plenty of great companies out there waiting to be discovered. The problem is that Etsy is a minefield and I don't have the patience to sift through thousands of products nor brands.
In my opinion indie home fragrance companies seem to be doing really well within the beauty world, I could name five that I have tried in the last three months all of which I have enjoyed. If you are looking for a quick and easy way to sample lesser known home fragrance options then I recommend Wax Box. Think of it as Glossybox but for candles and wax tarts, each month you get a selection of various scents delivered directly to your door. If only there was something like that for smaller beauty companies?
I may not be able to recommend a whole lot of indie brands I can point you in the direction of Epic Blend Lip Balms - easily one of the best lip balms I have ever tried. For those looking for looking for an usual bath and body company, may I suggest Haus of Gloi (everything is handmade and utterly beautiful)- I pretty much live for their Halloween and Autumn collections. For those looking to support home grown talent, you simply have to check out Lolly Rocket Candle Co - I have a huge soft spot for their gents range.
Clearly I have a lot of exploring to do within the indie beauty sector so I'd love to hear from you! What is the one (or more) indie cosmetic company that you would recommend to a friend? Etsy, stand alone shops or all that is in between, I want to know your top recommendations.
Great post :) yay you liked the LollyRocket candles I recommended then! I'm so glad.. I may have to try those lip balms they sound pretty good xx

Epic Blend balms sound so nice! x
ReplyDeleteI only blog about natural and organic (A.K.A what you would call indie - but they're not really indie anymore as the natural beauty scene is blossoming into this amazing thing right now!) so I think just 30 seconds on my blog would introduce you to SO MANY new brands... maybe? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite indie-but-not-indie brand right now is YULI skincare, very luxe, only has one European retailer but their products are AMAZING. I also adore alima pure for makeup. and check our naturisimo.com for lots of niche brands.

I adore Haus Of Gloi! Their body butters are soooo moisturizing and their scents are the best. So complex and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think you might like Hurraw lip balms! I don't know many indie brands myself.

I absolutely covet Our Tiny Bees Über Balm for my psoriasis. They are a small British, indie brand with homemade natural products made by their very own bees and their very own honey.
ReplyDeleteI find a lot of the smaller, indie brands tend to have a much better ethos, in terms of green, natural and sustainable beauty.
