For a moment ignore the shade difference of the two products in the above photo, as the title suggests this was very much an accidental dupe find. While looking for a great but budget nude lip liner for everyday use, I stumbled across Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liners and bought a few without as much as a second thought. It wasn't until I got home later that evening that I realised the packaging, texture and formula seemed familiar, I had unintentionally found a £5 dupe for one of the most sought after lip products around - Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat.
Typically when it comes to a dupe product, we don't pay all that much attention to the packaging but I can say that the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liners and Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheats are pretty similar ascetically. Both are slim yet weighted golden pencils that are a dream to sharpen (no mess or breakage) and use for that matter.
I don't own enough of either pencil to offer up dupe shades at the moment (my local Boots was pretty skimpy in terms of Max Factor) but I can compare formulas. As a quick side note the shade I have Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liner in Pink Petal does look to be rather similar to Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk - perhaps the latter is a little more blue based and deeper in tone. Both are creamy, matte yet not at all drying - if anything I'd go as far as describing bot textures as gel based, they glide on to the lips with ease allowing you to not only shape but fill in one quick step. Again the colour pigment levels are comparable - beautifully pigmented, long wearing and not prone to bleeding or feathering, assuming you are using the lip pencil as an all over lip colour rather than in the traditional sense.
At £5 the Max Factor Elixir Lip Liners are faultless, they truly do feel like a luxury product and wear just like one too! With six shades you may or may not find an identical shade dupe for a Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pencil, I'm more than sure you will find a shade suitable for your needs and dupe shades or not they are worth owning and trying full stop.

I have to try these out. They look awesome. I am such a huge fan of lip liners. It's been my staple as I've been traveling across Europe. :]

I think I have the maxfactor nude lip liner somewhere in the depths of my drawers too.
ReplyDeleteWow the packaging is ever so similar! xx

The packaging is so similar, at first I thought that both liners in the photo were from Charlotte Tilbury! Charlotte's Lip Cheat in 'Pillow Talk' is one of my favourite lip liners, so I can't wait to try Max Factor's dupes!

Accidental dupes are such a happy thing to find! I've never even tried a lip liner, but it's nice to know that Max factor offers a CT dupe (because I cannot afford Charlotte Tilbury right now).

The Max Factor lip pencil looks great, especially a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Pencil!

This looks amazing. I always again find it fascinating when i see such close dupes and start to wonder if there was not somewhere the same brain involved. I was by the way also surprised to see that Charlotte Tilbury products are actually produced in Germany while not being available there. Shows again that we know so little about the background of our makeup. I will definitely give those a shot. I love the Charlotte Tilbury ones but cannot buy them in Belgium.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this with us! I've been interested in trying out drugstore lip liners and now i'm deffo going to go for it!
ReplyDelete- love, http://dianaparum.blogspot.co.uk xx
Great spot hun! Will have to take check them out. xx
ReplyDeleteI tend to gravitate towards the same shades and finishes, so I am always accidental lip-dupeing! It's always a pleasant surprise, especially when you dupe a pricy product. The max factor lip liners seem amazing, so I definitely need to check them out. x

ReplyDeleteI always struggle finding lip liners in the drugstore. They seem to get snapped up so quickly at the moment. I would like to try both of these!
