Within the Benefit Operation Pore Proof Kit (out on the 27th of June) there is a new product, an all matte liquid highlighter - Benefit Shy Beam Matte Highlighter. At the moment Benefit Shy Beam is exclusive to the kit with no word on when it will become a stand alone product - hopefully sooner rather than later!
So for now Benefit Shy Beam Matte Highlighter is not for individual sale and is only available in a dinky 4ml size as part of the Benefit Operation Pore Proof Kit, it is however more than enough to get a feel for the product. Much like all of Benefit's liquid cheek products, Benefit Shy Beam come presented within a cute bottle and features an inbuilt brush for application. Shy Beam features pink and white candy stripes, very pretty and one that will be hard to pass up on when available as a full sized product. To use, much like Benefit Sun Beam et al you simply dot on and blend out using either your finger or choose brush. As this is matte, your best bet is to use the heat of your fingertips for ease of blending.
As you can see Benefit Shy Beam is a milky peach come nude shade with a strong yellow undertone. When first applied and in my opinion best suited to light complexions - I'm not particularly tanned at the moment and find it to be a little stark. The idea behind Shy Beam is that not everyone wants a glitter or shimmer based highlighter be it due to aversion and/or enlarged pores and fine line, yet most would like to add a little extra dimension to their face. Oddly once blended into the skin Benefit Shy Beam Matte Highlighter is really subtle and ideal not only for complementing a natural contour look but also for use on the brow bone. The end effect, which was beyond tricky to capture on camera is a subtle but effective. If you are a fan of a heavier contour and highlight with less blending this could also be used - think Kim Kardashian. If like myself you like to slim your nose down somewhat with a matte highlighter this makes the job so much easier - as it is a dream to blend. Unlike the other Benefit liquid products this does not have a tendency to stain, nor set super quickly so you have a little more wiggle room to blend and apply.
The consistency of Benefit Shy Beam is more akin to a cream than a liquid - thick yet comfortable to wear. It could be argued that the same effect Shy Beam offers could be achieved with any matte light powder or eyeshadow - yes but this is far less prone to appearing cakey or heavy, not to mention more convenient in terms of application.
I've only really began getting to grips with Benefit Shy Beam Matte Highlighter but can say that on the two occasions I have applied it (today and yesterday), it has wore well with my oily skin - around six hours now and counting. Benefit is often seen as a super young, trendy brand but many of us forget just how innovative the products are; Shy Beam Matte Highlighter will be the product that wins over a whole new legion of Benebabes - you just watch and see!
Benefit Shy Beam Matte Highlighter will launch on June the 27th, as part of Benefit Operation Pore Proof Kit £28.50.

This sounds interesting. I'm not big on shimmer and glitter but I sure love my highlighters. A pity that it is part of a kit! There is always something I don't need in the Benefit kits! Thanks for sharing (:

Aah this is new! Didn't know this was in the pipeline! :-) I am not sure this would work on medium dark skintones.. looks a bit too pink and might turn ashy?

Benefit always comes out with such great products, I can't wait for this to launch on its own

Ahah literally just did a post on highlighters but didn't know about this.
ReplyDeleteIt's so small, that's the biggest let down.

This sounds interesting! I don't have any matte highlighters, only shimmers. I might try this at some point if they ever release it individually.
ReplyDeletebigfluffycats.blogspot.com
Definitely something I'd like to try out, as all of Benefit's other highlighters I've tried are phenomenal! Hopefully they'll release a full size soon :)

A matte highlighter sounds interesting! I will have to give this a swatch when I see it in stores. I've personally never tried any of their tints x
ReplyDeleteIt's That Time For ... My Autumn/Winter Blush Picks!
Sounds interesting, I like matte makeup but wouldn't want it to cling to my dry patches. I like highlighters that aren't shimmery.

This sounds fantastic! I love adding a bit of highlighter, but then hate when it makes me look all sweaty :/
ReplyDeleteA matte one is just what I need, shame there's no word of it being a stand alone product!

I've never really heard of a matte highlighter but this looks so pretty, great post

I tried their benefit moon shine - but I wasn't impressed, I couldn't get it to blend very well. I just seemed to rub it all off again. I wonder if the powdery consistency of this is better.
ReplyDeletewww.beaucience.co.uk
I don't really understand the point of a matte highlighter personally, I would just use a concealer if I was after a subtler effect.
ReplyDeleteABlogByPhilippa
This sounds interesting - I'll look out for it :) xx
ReplyDeleteJasmine Talks Beauty
I think this would be perfect for my pale complexion and would work great as a highlighter over summer when my skin is tanned ! Great review! :-)
ReplyDeleteFairybumpkin.blogspot.co.uk
What an interesting product! As someone with oily skin this sounds really great!
ReplyDeletePauline | Catpacking
I'm in two minds about this! In a way I really love the idea as matte highlights are lacking, but in another way I think it is almost a useless product. The consistency does seem to make it worthwhile and it can be hard to find a concealer just light enough. x
ReplyDeletenueyork.blogspot.com
I love the sound of this, especially as it has a brush applicator but I think I'd be worried about this looking too pinky on the skin as my complexion is quite cool-toned. However, I'll definitely look out for this and hopefully have the chance to swatch it when its properly released. Lovely post as usual X
ReplyDeleteTia | at0ut.blogspot.co.uk
Ahhh can't wait for it to come out as a full size! Sounds very promising! :)

Xoxo Jessy
I've never heard of or tried a matte highlighter before, so would be interested in giving this a go if they bring it out in full size :) xx
ReplyDeleteTo be honest this sounds perfect for me. I don't tend to use highlighters much because I hate any kind of shimmer or shine on my face so I'd be really interested to see what this looks like on x
ReplyDeleteBecky @ The Little Blog of Beauty
This honestly looks like the same color as the ELF eyelid primer! More pigmented, but similar tone.

ReplyDeleteWHAT!? A matte highlighter? I've never heard of matte highlighters, but it sounds nice for people with oily skin :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks really great and pigmented!
I have it and it's amazing! It's subtle enough to be worn every day and you just need to use a little bit of it on your cheekbones or brow bones to have great results :-) It is also really easy to apply. I highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so interesting! Will have to give this a go when it comes out :)
