Two New Primers from YSL

Two New Primers from YSL

YSL beauty have recently launched not one but two brand spanking new primers, each boasting different finishes and skin technology. From silky, pore perfecting balms to glitter fleck suspended, glow inducing gel textures YSL offer up two formulas to choose from or combine.

YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer £29.50 via Boots - link
I imagine that the teeny, tiny glitter flecks within this gel primer will put some off but I'm hear to say don't, I hate glitter in anything other than nail polish or eyeshadow and really rate this primer. The light, silicone gel base not only smooths onto the skin with such ease but it perfects and blurs imperfections, filling fine lines and enlarged pores as it goes. Not only does it create the perfect canvas but it helps prolong make-up wear, controls excess oil and brightens the skin too. The texture reminds me a lot of Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer - a light, cooling gel that is quickly absorbed by the skin and easy to apply. Matte and brightening is not too qualities that often pair well together but that is exactly how I would describe the finish - the silicone texture mattifies the skin, where as the glitter particles help to perk up the complexion without being obvious. The glitter element all but disappears when applied to skin, leaving behind a subtle lit within glow - if you look beyond close at the above photo, you will see tiny glimmers of gold. Despite being a somewhat hydrating formula this is not overwhelming on oily complexions, it is a do all and suit all primer if ever there was one.

YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector £31.50 via Boots - link
Balm primers are fairly new, well at least as far as I am concerned and given the choice I will more often than not skip in favour of a gel/liquid texture. Well YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector could be the one that changes my and maybe your view point forever. Much like the above glitter imagine, I will ask you to look beyond the pink appearance as this does not translate onto the skin at all. The best comparison I can draw to YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector is Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. Both are thick, balm yet silken textures that melt and glide onto the skin instantly filling in and blurring any lines and enlarged pores. Despite the thicker texture of YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector it feels weightless on the skin and does not clog the pores, or result in breakouts even with continuous wear. The main difference between the YSL and Clarins version is the end result, YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector translates to a velvet, almost powder soft, matte finish. If airbrushing could be bottled up and sold it would be this primer. Not only does it leave the skin feeling and looking softer, imperfections blurred but it also combats excess oil and prolongs make-up wear. If that is not impressive enough as it is a balm it can be used in place of a pressed powder, over the top of make-up to reduce shine. I would deem this to be suitable for all but those with extremely dry skin may benefit more from a hydrating gel primer such as YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer above.

  2. Not sure how I feel about the glitter ..I think I would prefer it if they had two versions - one for oily skin and one for radiance (with the glitter)

  5. I've never seen a balm primer! Looks quite interesting but I agree, the liquid and gel would be easier I think! Definitely have to try the top primer out! x

  8. I love the look of the balm primer as it's something different, but I'd always worry about the application because of the fact it's different. I love to give it a go and see if I could prefer this over the usual liquid primers.

  9. I love the look of both of these but my skin is really prone to breakouts so I'm still a little wary of primers! I would love to try that glittery one though - it sounds like a dream.

  11. When I first clicked into the post I saw the picture and thought surely primer is a misprint you must mean perfume, ha.
These both look quite intriguing but as I've never tried the balm and the the packaging is oh so pretty I think I'd have to give that a go.
