As a network of beauty lovers and bloggers, the majority of us will be no stranger to our local Lush store. The friendly staff, the sweet aromas and the fun products lure us in but just how often do you purchase soap? I'm talking old school style solid bars of soap? Most likely seldom, somewhere along the lines we have all ditched the loyal bar of soap in favour of liquid products: be it hand wash, facial wash or shower gel. As a young child I can recall how my Grandmother was a huge advocate of Imperial Leather Soap, the smell still takes me back - now our households are all anti-bacterial hand washes. Can we bring back the humble bar of soap?
I know what you are thinking, there is a reason why we all ditched soap in droves - after a while it turns to mush and is less than appealing, no matter just how pretty your soap dish may be. Agreed! If like me your soap stash is predominately Lush soap, you will be surprised by just how easy it is to cut - smaller chunks get used quicker and will not spoil. Speaking of cutting soap, this is the ideal method for frequent travellers! Simply find your favourite soap formula and scent for your body or facial needs: cut off a small slice, wrap in a food bag and bingo you have a travel friendly shower product that will not leak!
The reason I chose Lush soap over others is not only the vast range and beautiful designs - Lush offer everything from hand, body, hair and even face soaps but the formulations - all of which are free from Palm Oil and mostly Vegan (you will have to check per formula as it does vary). I also like that they are hand poured - keeping it old school! Lush also allow you to purchase sizes best for your needs, be it a small slice for one or a bumper, economy chunk for the entire family. As mentioned above the softer textures do allow me to cut and store at my own leisure, not something I can do with a typical slab from the Supermarket.
Stuck for a little inspiration and/or perhaps don't know where to start within the expansive world of Lush soap? Let me help you out with a few of my personal favourites:
Lush Putty for Your Hands Soap - a gentle, non-foaming hand soap that soothes and calms, ideal for overworked and cracked hands. Equally wonderful for those with young children and sensitised skin.
Lush Sandstone Soap - think of this as a punchy, lemon fresh body wash that not only cleanses the skin but exfoliates too. Lush Sandstone contains real sand to gently polish the skin - it is like a trip to the beach minus the sunburn and ice cream calories in soap form.
Lush Rockstar Soap - Missing the candy sweet scent of Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel? Well this soap shares the same pear drop scent and can be used on the hands and body - the perfect Snow Fairy replacement.
Lush Figs and Leaves Soap - The do it all soap - not only does this smell incredible (fruity yet floral) but it cleanses, moisturises and exfoliates the skin in one quick step. It is so gentle that it can also be used on the face. If you are strapped for time but want fresh, comforted and soft skin this is the bar of soap you should take into the shower with you!
What are your thoughts? Is solid soap something you use daily or a beauty product you bypass completely - if so why? Or perhaps you are an avid Lush soap fanatic, if so please feel free to recommend me a soap or two!
I find that most soaps tend to dry my skin out too much to use them (even the Lush ones I've tried), so I tend to just pass them by, even though the some of the scents and colours really tempt me to give them a go. :(
ReplyDeleteI love the lush soaps! The only issue is they tend to make a mess on the side, but the smell is so much better than a normal hand wash.

I've never actually tried Lush soaps - but I always lust over them, the pretty blocks : )

I literally only use soap to wash my hands, I use shower gel for my body. I did have a putty from Lush once that I used as a soap, it was amazing.

I wanted the Xmas 'Yog Nog' soap for ages and love the smell yet it is still sat in its packaging on my desk waiting to be used. I just don't reach for soaps, always shower gels!

This has made me seriously want to go back to using a bar of soap! Definitely good that you can cut them. Think I may be paying a visit to Lush very very soon

I love Lush soaps! They've got so many different ones, in so many smells and colours, that I'll have to fall in love with at least one. My favourite is the 'Honey I Washed the Kids', the smell is delicious ♥

I never thought about cutting soap! That's so smart! Defo going to go home and test it out. And indeed Lush soaps are amazing. I can never walk by without feeling an urge to go into a place that smells like heaven! :)

I have 3 bars of soap to use from Lush (one of which is Sandstone) and I'm stuck as to which one to use next. All soaps from Lush seem to be incredible but admittedly, I much prefer the shower gel. It's easier to shower on a working day with shower gel than it is with a slippery soap that prefers to slide right out of my hands rather than clean me.

I use solid soap for my hands. I have a sensitive skin and for this my hands are always dry and ruined :( I try Putty For Your Hands and it's amazing!!!! I love this soap so much! But I think (here in Italy) it's a little bit expensive and it has a "short-lived". I'm sure that I will buy again this soap, maybe in winter when my hands are dry. Rockstar smells so good, and it's excellent also for hands! For the body I prefer a shower gel, it's so quickly to use it for all days :)

I had a posh bar of soap when I moved into my flat at uni and everyone thought it was so strange! I must admit I feel weird using soap in someone elses house, seems almost dirty? Haha!
ReplyDeleteNever even thought about cutting bars of soap up! cottonandcandie xx
Have never actually tried the lush soaps, only the bath bombs (that's bad isn't it?!) but I really do want to try more Lush products because they're all the rage for a reason. May buy a couple of these next time I hit up lush! Great review. :) Holly x http://thechroniclesofholly.com/
ReplyDeleteI hate when Lush bars literally look good enough to eat.

Rockstar smells so good! I stash mine in my scarves, so they smell nice as well :)
ReplyDeleteLush soaps are addictive <3

I am a complete sucker for soap bars, they have like a magnet for me, but when it comes to Lush I just can't get into them. Must admit that their colours, scents and display at their stores is very appealing, but that's it. On a similar prince range I find better options like the Korres Milk soap and Korres Chamomile soap, any of the L'Occitane shea butter soaps and even the Dove soap bar. And on a breaking-the-piggy-bank-obscene-for-a-soap-bar level, then Claus Porto is the option. Everything is beautiful about them, the soap itself, their smell and their amazing retro packaging.
ReplyDeleteI love love love Sandstone, my skin has never felt so smooth, its so good my Other half has started using it too :)

I only use traditional soap at my Gran's house haha. Though I bought a Lush set that contains the Rock Star soap and haven't tried it yet! xx

I read an article the other day about an artist lady who makes sculptures from soap and her latest one is huge and the soap was donated by Lush.
ReplyDeleteTheres a useless Saturday fact for you, you're welcome hehe.

Love the idea of cutting them into smaller chunks! I've never really been a fan of the LUSH soaps but you've tempted me into it again...

I've tried a couple and my favorite is the Porridge soap- I find it quite moisturising on my dry skin. I quite liked Sandstone too.

I'm personally a liquid soap kinda gal - If it's solid I don't think I'm getting as much of a wash! I do love the smell and feel of Lush soaps, but I think they're so overpriced - I'd rather buy a bath melt for the price.

I love Rock Star soap! It's probably the only Lush soap that doesn't break me out. :)
