Fun fact - it has been more than a little windy here in Glasgow. So much so that when I was outside, snapping the images for this post a few days ago the little foam applicator blew away. I did attempt to chase it but gave up. I doubt many care or have a use for the foam applicators so many eyeshadow palettes come complete with but if you do rest assure that the new Sleek Make-Up Del Mar Volume 2 Palette.
As with most Sleek Make-Up palettes this comes in a simple but chic black plastic casing, complete with a large mirror and of course that elusive foam applicator! Despite holding 12 well sized wells of eyeshadow I do find the palette to generally be compact, robust and ideal for travelling. Packaging aside I'm sure you came here for swatches and a break down of the formula? Well without further ado, the shades are as follows:
Loco - light, metallic peach that almost veers rose gold.
San Antonio - a matte true peach with silver flecks of glitter.
Ibiza Rocks - matte bright yellow.
Zoola - metallic orange tinged gold.
Pura Vida - matte mid-toned green
Spotlight - deep, grey based navy with silver glitter.
Pearl - a pearlescent white.
Ushuaia - pink based brown that is matte.
Puro - matte lilac.
Bora Bora - bright, matte turquoise.
Ocean Beach - matte teal.
Siesta - deep matte chocolate brown.
As a huge fan of Sleek Make-Up and most notably their eyeshadow palettes it does pain me to say that the quality is just not there. The eyeshadows are weakly pigmented, dry and chalky. I realise my second set swatches above do appear to give off the impression that the colour saturation is there, annoyingly I have over compensated and swatched heavily but the light swatches are a true indication of the pigment pay off. As you can see the overall texture is very crumbly and stark. Sure you could apply in layers and use a good primer but this is not one of the better Sleek Make-Up palettes. Truthfully I do think Sleek Make-Up struggle when it comes to matte eyeshadows, which in fairness even high end brands also fall flat, hence why the Sleek Make-Up Del Mar Volume 2 Palette doesn't live up to my exceptions. If this was a palette full of metallic eyeshadows which the brand do better than anyone else, I have no doubt that they would've knocked it out of the park. Hey you can't win them all!
Sleek Make-Up Del Mar Volume 2 Palette will launch on the 23rd of March and will cost £7.99.

Great honest review. I used to own a lot of Sleek palettes when I first started getting into eye make up more, the Storm palette being one of my favourites. These colours don't look very wearable and it is a shame they're poor quality x

ReplyDeleteToo bad the quality of these aren't what you expected. I've heard a lot of great stuff about Sleek. However the colours in this palette look so amazing. So nice and summery!

Hmm what a shame. But in reality, not everything can be a winner.

Those colours look really pretty in the pan but after seeing them swatched, they look so chalky! What a shame! Great review by the way :-)

Glad I read this post as I had my eye on this palette despite having more eyeshadow than I know what to do with but if the quality is lacking it's certainly not one to waste my pounds on.

I think Sleek palettes are great for the price, I love their limited editions. I have Del Mar V1 which I think is ok, but I agree the matt shades aren't up to scratch. But still, for the price i'm happy to spend extra time making them work :)
