Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit

If you thought contouring would be a passing trend you thought wrong! The good news is that if you are a fan of sculpting the face the whole process has not only become a little easier but also kinder on the pocket. Newly launched as of yesterday is the Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit.

Much like previous face kits from Barry M the Chisel Cheeks palette is constructed of reinforced cardboard which may not look all that sturdy but does tend to wear well. Sure after a while the packaging can look like a little weathered but it is sturdy enough and well products the powders inside. In terms of size this is fairly dinky yet perfectly formed - each pan of powder is wide enough for the fluffiest of brushes yet overall the kit is small enough to travel with. For the price you can't really ask for much more. In place of a mirror the Barry M Chisel Cheeks Kit has an easy to follow, step by step guide to make the most of the palette.

The Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit contains three pressed powders: a highlighter, a bronzer and a contour powder, all of which are matte. The first powder is of course the light highlighter - a soft, ivory come yellow based brighting powder which adds light to the face without the need for shimmer particles. I have said all three powders are matte, which is true to an extent but this has a slight sheen. I liken it somewhat to the finish of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders only this has a slightly heavier and chalky texture. To get the full effect of radiance you do need to buff this well into the skin, on the other hand along with highlighting it does set under eye make-up too. Next up we have a warm, slightly ruddy toned bronzer which has been created to add warmth to the face. Off the top of my head I can think of no immediate comparisons in terms of shade - I guess Bourjois Delice de Poudre (the chocolate bronzer) wouldn't be far off the mark. Again this has a slightly powdery finish but does warm the complexion with ease not to mention it is well pigmented. Lastly we have the contour powder which is a deep, cool toned, grey based brown. The texture is identical to the other two powders and again is well pigmented which may be problematic for fair skin tones. As the overall tone is grey and cool the contour powder does create realistic shadows but to avoid harsh lines I do suggest teaming with a large, fluffy angled face brush.

The Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit is a great budget contour kit which is fairly user friendly. Overall the powders are well pigmented, easy to blend out and fairly universal in tone. If you are looking for a complete sculpt, shape and bronze palette on a budget you will not find anything better on the UK highstreet.

Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit £6.49 via Boots on and will launch into Superdrug on the 11th February.
