Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette

I have owned the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette for a good few months now but only really put it to use in the last few weeks. Initially I put off purchasing this palette as I couldn't quite justify owning both Urban Decay Basic offerings as they really aren't all that different. If like myself you find cool toned eyeshadows are more flattering on your complexion opposed to warm hues, this could be just what you are looking for...

The Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette shares similar packaging to that of NARS in that it features a rubberised plastic finish. The Naked Basics 2 palette is teeny tiny - smaller than an iPhone but it does have a sizeable mirror and six pans of eyeshadow which fits comfortably into the palm of a hand, it truly is the perfect to go size. Design wise this is very well thought out and is perfect for travel as it is small, secure and can take a knocking without smashing the eyeshadows and the mirror allows for on the go application. In case you were curious yes the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette is identical in design (the shade of plastic differs slightly) to the original Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.

Originally this was dubbed an all matte which isn't fully true as one shade is shimmer based but hey close enough! Five out of the six shades are exclusive to this palette: Skimp was featured within one of the Book of Shadows palettes from a few years ago. I quickly want to state that I find Urban Decay eyeshadows to be some of the better pigmented eyeshadows out there and find them a pleasure to work with - they blend, build and wear wonderfully so but to get the most from each shade I do recommend using a primer before application. In my opinion the Naked Basics 2 Palette is more pigmented than the original, so much so that I struggled when swatching. There is not a dud shade is the palette at all - soft, silky easy to blend shades with great colour pay off. I can hand on heart say that if I wasn't a beauty blogger forever on the search for the next great thing that I would most likely only wear Urban Decay eyeshadows and that is the truth. Lipsticks I'm forever a MAC girl but I'm guessing you already knew that ha!

The six shades within the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette are:
Skimp - a slightly peachy, yellow toned beige with a light sheen finish. More of a satin finish eyeshadow than a true matte.
Stark - a deeper in tone light beige than the above Skimp, this has an orange undertone and a true matte finish.
Frisk - a light cool toned brown that has a strong grey undertone. As a side note if like myself you have really light, blonde brows this is a great shade to fill them with.
Cover - another light brown but this is a little deeper than above with more of a yellow undertone.
Primal - a mid tone, strong grey toned brown. Essentially a deeper version of Frisk.
Undone - a deepened brown, not quite black yet cool in tone.

Now onto the same million dollar question I asked when I reviewed the original Urban Decay Basics palette - do you need the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette? Well my advice would be the same Ask yourself would you use the above cool toned shades daily and would you like to able to cart around one dinky little palette rather than several shades? If the answer is yes then this could be the best £22 you spend this year. I personally prefer the shade line up of this version rather than the original offering due to the slightly cooler colour scheme. I am currently working on a comparison post of both Basic palettes, so if you are on the fence on which palette is for you do stay tuned!
