These are a Few of My Favourite Things - October 2014

Happy Halloween everyone! I'll save my chit chat for another post and get straight on to what I have been enjoying for the month that was October...

These are a Few of My Favourite Things - October 2014

October was the month in which I found two great budget skin care finds both of which I would urge all to try out. My go to cleanser is Tesco Pro Radiance Melting Gel Cleanser which is a pretty great dupe for Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel but costs less than £5! It quickly removes all my make-up (even eye-make-up), leaves my skin feeling soft, is easy to use and more importantly doesn't irritate my skin. You can find it on the Tesco website or of course pick it up next time you are in stocking up on groceries. If you are a fan of mud masks your next purchase should be Superdrug's Aloe Vera Mud Mask - it is gentle yet deeply cleansing, it helps to calm blemishes as well as re-balancing oily skin. At £2.59 it really is a bargain - find it here.

These are a Few of My Favourite Things - October 2014

A few make-up favourites include Benefit The Big Easy Complexion Perfector which admittedly my skin doesn't always love. At the moment I find it creates a light, natural but matte canvas in which my pores look smaller and the creamy texture seems to agree with my currently de-hydrated skin. I think in a few weeks this may be a little too heavy for my skin type but at the moment I can't get enough. It is currently on sale (saving almost £10) on ASOS - link.

My go to mascara is Revlon Lash Potion Mascara By Grow Luscious, a mouthful yes and it did seem a little gimmicky but this is one of the few mascaras I swear by. As someone with often oily skin I find mascara can smudge rather quickly and easily - this does not flake never mind smudge! It doesn't clump despite my desire to apply four coats, it simply creates long, fluttery eyelashes with plenty of volume. I can't contest if it does or does not encourage eyelashes to grow but it is a brilliant all round mascara regardless. Find it here for £9.99 - link.

My lips are a mess as they are each Autumn/Winter - I am terrible for picking and biting them. So attractive huh? At the moment I have been relying heavily on Lanolips Lemonaide as it is such a great natural yet heavy duty lip balm - it soothes, moisturises and heals. What more could you ask for? Lipstick doesn't look all that wonderful on chapped lips (who knew?) so I have been reaching for my YSL Glossy Stains More Often than not - they are light, non-sticky yet add a hint of colour as well as being moisturising. Perfect for less than perfect lips! My go to shade at the moment is of course Pink Radiance, you can find the entire shade line up via Feel Unique here - link.

These are a Few of My Favourite Things - October 2014

Other notable favourites include Burberry My Burberry EDP - a light, floral fragrance that has been based on the iconic Burberry Trench Coat and London rain. To try it is to love it. I have also been reaching for Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo, it is light, refreshes my hair while soaking up excess oil and doesn't leave a white cast. I have learnt that the nozzle is prone to clogging so that may be worth bearing in mind? Lastly a quick shout out to Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake Hand Santizer - it kills germs on the hands and smells pretty much like Autumn in a bottle!

What have you been enjoying this month?

Halloween Lip Balms Walgreens

Apparently so? I know how you all love my fun facts (not!) but one of my favourite places to visit in any state of America is Walgreens. No seriously I am obsessed, it craps all over the likes of CVS. Sweets, food and make-up all in one place and lots of it, oh and most are open 24 hours. I mean c'mon what's not to like? I often dream about relocating to America and living the American dream of 24 hour convenience and Taco Bell - I kid, there is so much more to the place than that. Anyway it was in Walgreens that I found an entire line of lip balms dedicated to Halloween! The UK doesn't quite dig Halloween as much as I'd like us to...

Halloween Lip Balms Walgreens
Halloween Lip Balms Walgreens

So yeah Halloween lip balms which are by Walgreens own brand - Well at Walgreens. As you can see they are pretty similar in design to the EOS lip balms, oddly I did notice in America this year that spherical packaging seems to be the way forward. Not really sure why as I find this style bulky and more difficult to stash in a coat pocket. Much like the EOS lip balms the Well at Walgreens Halloween lip balms are fairly firm and almost waxy on the lips (they do contain petroleum), they leave a barrier which I didn't find to be all that moisturising but perhaps it would be beneficial in protecting the lips against the cold weather. The jury is still out on that one. Really you are paying for the novelty factor and in this instance it is fun fragrances.

Halloween Lip Balms Walgreens

In my local Walgreens there was four scents to choose from and as they were only $2 each I purchased all four: Candy Corn - smells exactly like white chocolate rather than the more vanilla based scent of candy corn, Chocolate Mint - think along the lines of an After Eight mint, Ghoulish Grape - very similar to Grape Soda and lastly Pumpkin Spice which smells just how you'd imagine, like a spice based cupcake ha!

It's time the UK embraced occasions more - I mean who wouldn't want more Pumpkin Spice scented things?

Burberry My Burberry Eau de Parfum

I made a promise to myself that I would hold back on perfume reviews as I know not everyone enjoys them which is more than fine with me. However I am obsessed with My Burberry Eau de Parfum and I mean obsessed. It is a new addition and fairly new launch and one I really can't get enough off. If like myself you always thought of Burberry scents as a little naff and dated this is the one that will change your mind and maybe make you lust after a Burberry Trench Coat!

"Inspired by the trench coat and its heritage of British design and craftsmanship, My Burberry captures the fragrance of a London garden after the rain."
First of all just look at the My Burberry Eau de Parfum isn't it beautiful - very chic yet I feel close to what we know and recognise Burberry for without the need for the iconic print (flashbacks of Daniella Westbrook anyone?). This is one bottle you can display with pride that is for sure.

The fragrance itself is a fresh, bright almost aquatic floral - if you enjoyed the Jo Malone London Rain Collection (I personally wish it was a permanent collection) then this will be right up your street. Fresh, feminine yet makes a statement. My Burberry Eau de Parfum contains top notes of sweet pea and bergamot . At the heart there is geranium leaf, golden quince and freesia heart, on a base of rounded out with a patchouli, rain-tipped damask and centifolia roses. I personally don't enjoy rose fragrances as much as I used to so I was glad that the rose notes aren't all that detectable. Rather the notes fuse together to create a sweet floral composition that may remind you of a wet day in Spring. I realise that doesn't sound nearly half as appealing aloud as it did in my head. Despite being a lighter scent this packs a punch and is pretty noticeable when worn, it also lingers on the skin all day which I did not expect.

In a word? Sophisticated.
In more words? You need to test this out asap!

Flamingo Candles Cinnamon Appleberry Candle

Like a good few I am quite the fan of Halloween but fully understand that certain items you want to be able to use longer than one day. I hear ya! Well the new Flamingo Candles Halloween collection allows you to indulge in the spooky spirit but won't seem out of place throughout November if that at all makes sense? The three new additions are scented with Autumnal fruit and spices yet are sweet so that a little Halloween spirit (is there such a thing?) trickles through.

So yes three new fragrances from Flamingo Candles which I am assuming are limited edition: Orange and Nutmeg which in my opinion would be a great all round Autumn/Winter purchase, Cinnamon Appleberry and of course the classic Aniseed. Great on their own or combined to create a custom scent.

I was kindly gifted the Flamingo Candles Cinnamon Appleberry Candle to put to the test and although not a fan of cinnamon I do have to say this has won me over. It is light, fresh and yet thanks to the spicy kick it has a true Autumn vibe. If you enjoy fruity fragrances but want something a little more-ish for the colder weather this is what I'd recommend. It reminds me of freshly baked apple pies and all things that come along with the crisp Autumn weather. It also works surprisingly well alongside the new Lush So White Shower Gel should you be planning a pampering night in?

Who said Halloween only has to last one night? If buy enough sweets you can easily stretch it out a week...I jest. Well kinda...

Flamingo Candles Halloween 2014 cost £12 each and are available here - link.

The Daily Beauty Report (30.10.14)

Here is what is currently happening in the beauty world at the moment and it is the most I have been excited in a long while when it comes to new launches. Spoiler alert there is lots of ah-maz-ing new additions...

On the look out for a new skin care brand to try out? Note down the 10th of November. "Aromatherapy brand AromaWorks have announced the launch of a collection of natural BioActive skincare products for both men and women. The range compliments the brand's existing home fragrance range of candles, reed diffusers and room mists. Products combine 100% pure essential oils with botanical extras, as well as BioActive natural ingredients. The collection comprises over 25 products that have been designed to effectively improve and enhance particular skin types, including cleansers, exfoliators, toners, serums and creams. The ingredients are free from perfume and alcohol to gently but effectively treat delicate skin, including those with skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, dry and sensitive skin, psoriasis, oily skin, tissue rejuvenation, wrinkles and stretch marks. "

I keep meaning to book in with WAH nails each time I am in London and never do due to time constraints...one day eh? Until then this looks to be a good alternative? "WAH London Ultimate Nail Art Kit, offering all the tools, tips and tricks to re-create the looks from the WAH Nails salon. The kit, worth over £115, comprises eight Nail Polishes, four Nail Art Pens, Nail File, Buffer, Scissors, Clean Up Brush, Cuticle Pusher, Jewel Tool, two Pots of Jewels and four Tutorial Cards." It will cost £85 and launches this month via Boots.

In January Elemis will launch their Special Edition Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser, in celebration of the brand's 25th anniversary. The cleanser combined cedarwood with notes of bergamot and neroli. The product has been scientifically formulated with skin protecting moringa seed peptide, great burdock, noni and assai fruit. It does come in special edition packaging which is not in the photo above and will cost £29.

If ever there was a collection to make you swoon this is it. Old school glamour with a hint of 90's browns. In a word perfection. The good news is that it has only just launched today! "Bobbi Brown Cosmetics - Scotch on the Rocks, a limited edition collection inspired by American actress Lauren Bacall. The range infuses warm matte browns, golden metallic nudes and deep ambers, alongside soft beige gold and bold Bordeaux hues for lips. The collection comprises: Warm Glow Eye Palette, featuring nine shades of nudes and scotch-inspired browns; Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, available in Black Scotch (rich golden brown); Highlight Powder, offering a soft luminosity and buildable radiance available in two shades: Bronze Glow and Pink Glow; Lip Color, featuring the original formula in four shades, including Bordeaux, Malt Shimmer, Beige Gold Shimmer and Sultry Red; Lip Gloss, a high-shine gloss in Scarlet; Glitter Lip Gloss, with light-catching gold sparkle in Gold; and High Shimmer Lip Gloss, a soft pink shimmer and non-stick shine in Bellini (pink). Also in the collection is Nail Polish in two shades and Shimmer Nail Polish in Scotch. In conjunction with the launch of the collection, Bobbi is offering complimentary “Look of the Season” Make-up Lessons with her make-up artists at the counter during the Christmas period. Bookings can be made online."

Topping my Christmas wish list! "Italian fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo has announced the launch of its Signorina limited edition fragrance, taking inspiration from the brand's leather material. Packaged with the iconic Vara Bow in recycled leather, the fragrance comprises notes of currant, pink pepper, fresh jasmine, peony, pannacotta, musk and patchouli." Isn't that bottle utterly beautiful? I think come pay day this will have to come home with me. This will launch on the 3rd of November and will cost £56/50ml.

Okay Miley Cyrus may not be everyone's cup of tea but kudos to MAC for using someone not only fairly edgy but new! I honestly don't think I could take another Rihanna, Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj collab. Not that I have anything against any of the ladies but lets keep things fresh and a bright, almost Barbie pink is right up my alley! "MAC Cosmetics has announced that American singer, actress, and songwriter Miley Cyrus is the new face of its Viva Glam collection. Miley took to Twitter to announce that she is fronting her first campaign with the make-up brand. The new collection is due to launch in early 2015 and will include a hot pink amplified Lipstick and a matching Lipglass with sparkling pearl. Each sale from the Viva Glam collection goes towards helping women and children everywhere affected by HIV/Aids." I am counting down the days and I mean that.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

Lush Christmas Shower Gels 2014

Last night I popped along to Lush Buchanan Street for the Christmas launch (shout out to all the nice peeps that work there!) with one thing on my mind. Buy all the Christmas shower gels and buy them now and that I did. I first got to test out the new festive additions back in July and I kid you not Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel has haunted me ever since. There is three shower gels in total, two new and of course it wouldn't be Christmas without the return of Lush Snow Fairy.

You best believe I have already tried out the new shower gels already - bathing twice a day not only keeps you clean but it sure whittles away at those hours. I jest. Anyway here is a quick run down of all the fragrances and what I think. Quickly I do want to say that all three so far seem to cleanse equally (most likely the same base ingredients with different scents, I'm too lazy to check), don't seem to be drying on the skin and lather up beautifully. I am a huge fan of Lush shower gels in general as they can double up as shampoo and are gentle on the skin.

Lush Christmas Shower Gels 2014

Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel (£3.95-£13.75) - One word? Obsessed. It quite literally smells like someone has taken all the prancing images of Christmas that float around my empty head each December and bottled them. It is spicy but warming (a little like the beverage with the same name) with notes of cloves, cinnamon and ginger and a little glitter too for good measure. If ever there was a shower gel that screamed Christmas this is it. In my opinion this is the perfect pre-bed shower gel (or bubble bath should you wish) as it is oddly sleepy in scent - I realise on paper or screen that may seem absurd but I'm sure if you try it out you will agree. I can't help but day dream of a crackling fire, new pj's and bed when I think of this. Gosh I really do live on the edge ha!

Lush Christmas Shower Gels 2014

Lush So White Shower Gel (£4.50-£14.75) - An apple based shower gel? I know what you are thinking bizarre but it really isn't it is rather divine if I do say so myself. Borrowing the light apple fragrance from the Lush Bath Bomb of the same name this shower gel is a gentle and pure apple scent that reminds me of freshly fallen snow. Odd I know but it is such a gentle apple scent, not your typical spiced offering nor does it smell like cheap apple shampoo (I know you hear me on that one). If you want something a little less traditionally festive this is the one I'd go for - same if you rather enjoy apple based scents. I have feeling this would also combine beautifully with Hot Toddy above should you feel like experimenting.

Lush Christmas Shower Gels 2014

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel (£3.75-£11.95) - She's backkkkk!!! The sweeter than sweet pink, glitter flecked shower gel that we all look forward to each year. Again not exactly the most festive of scents but entirely addictive! In my house hold this fragrance is the bone of contention - I feel it smells like Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum, my sister says it is straight up bubblegum and the bottle states it is based on Pear Drop sweets. Who is right? I only purchased the small bottle this time around as there is only so many festive showers a gal can have. No doubt I'll regret this decision (I already am as I type) and go back for a bigger bottle. We shall see!

Next year Lush be a pal and bring back all of the above but can we pretty please also have Lush Christmas Eve in Shower Gel form. I'd be one happy chappy. What scent do you think you'll pick up?

My Debenhams Beauty Card Favourites

Debenhams beauty halls. A beauty addicts haven, am I right?
How many of us have lost a full lunch time or afternoon to pursuing the latest launches?
I know I have - all my favourite brands (MAC, Illamasqua, Dior and Urband Decay) under one roof and of course online via Debenhams Beauty should you rather shop in your pj's in the comfort of your home.

I was invited to pick a few products from Debenhams in the hope of finding some new favourites and I had a ball. As many will know I am fragrance obsessed so I choose two new scents to add to my ever growing collection - the fresh and exuberant yet clean and dare I say it sexy Tom Ford Neroli PortofinoThe newest Burberry launch also came home with me - Burberry My Burberry which is a surprisingly light and romantic floral, easily my favourite Burberry fragrance to date. Lastly I have a new blush by Dior (of course) in the shade Rose Cherie - a light, peachy tinged pink that adds radiance and a flush of colour. What is not to like? I will of course review in full soon but for now I am enjoying my new picks.

If (and I know most us do) you do happen to shop in Debenhams regularly you must pick up a free Debenhams Beauty Card - the benefits are nothing short of wonderful: 3 points per £1 spent (they quickly amount up and any money off make-up is only a good thing in my book ) , free online delivery, free samples , as well as in-store makeovers and its own community on Facebook with lots of special deals (currently it is gain £7.50 in points for every £50 you spend) and competitions and people with the same make-up tendencies. With Christmas firmly around the corner I suggest signing up asap - think of all those extra points you could collect and the treats you oh so deserve for embracing the festive shop!

Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara

Normally I try products for at least a week before gathering my thoughts and attempting to string together some sort of cohesive review (the key word is attempt here) but with Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara, three uses was more than enough. In all honesty by the third use I had adopted the why bother mentality as it was that poor in performance and this is coming from a girl who has purchased just about every new Dior release in the last three months.

Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara
Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara

Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara promises to add volume, length and curl to the lashes and boosts "stretch-effect formula" technology. The brush is curved, constructed and made from natural fibres and for what it is worth it really does grip on to the lashes, promotes curl and used with the actual mascara does add additional length. Sounds good huh? Well one light coat and you do have the appearance of long, separated eyelashes that have a natural curl but the effect is very minimal. This may well be some people's tastes especially for day wear but give the mascara 10-15 minutes and it has smudged all over the eye area - my brow bone had black splodges as did my lower eye area. Not cool and I should point out that my eye lids or eye area aren't currently all that oily. Oh and that is not all, if you dare to add a second or third coat Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara clumps like nothing I have ever experienced in the past. It looks cheap, frightful and not at all what I'd expect from a mascara that costs just shy of £25. I should point out that both sets of problems happened on all three instances.

Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Mascara

I do try and look for positives in every product but in this instance I really can't think of all that much to jot down. The packaging is pretty and the brush is a great shape, especially if you have naturally poker straight eyelashes. I do have to wonder if perhaps the Dior Diorshow Iconic Curl Waterproof Mascara would perform better but at £24.50 I doubt I'll risk finding out. Basically if you enjoy super clumpy eyelashes with a side of smeared mascara this is the one - otherwise it is best avoided. Sorry Dior.

October Beauty Wish List

I went a little crazy in the US and bought more make-up than I could possibly ever need so I am putting myself on a spending ban. I doubt I'll stick to it as I am not exactly known for my will power but I will try none the less. With only a few days left in October this is really my November wish list but as ever I am bogging myself down with semantics. Anyway here is what my heart is currently lusting after...

1, Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadow in Nude, I own this formulation in the shade Earth and I can hands down say it is one of the best matte eyeshadow and cream textures out there. The pigmentation is beyond belief, it stays put all day long, looks great and generally is a joy to use and apply. Earth is a deep brown so I think my next purchase will be the more everyday friendly Nude which I'd imagine will make a great base for other shades too? Find it here via House of Fraser for £19 - link.

2, I have the sudden craving for a deep lip shade but it has to be totally matte, plum yet slightly red toned. Not asking for much am I? I think the ideal option for me is MAC Nightmoth Lip Liner which going by online swatches seems to fit the bill perfectly. The only problem is that is forever sold out in store! It is currently online here for £12.50 - link.

3, Benefit Dallas Box Blush is my unsung hero of the blush world, it adds colour, defines and brightens my face all in one quick step not to mention the slightly ruddy come bronze shade is perfect for the Autumn. Basically this is a note to myself to say replace your broken blush Adrienne but also as a suggestion for anyone looking for something a little different this season. Try it, I bet you fall head over heels for it! Find it here via Debenhams for £23.50 - link.

4, I love to contour, I may not always get it right but man do I enjoy myself! I keep umming and ahhing over the NARS Contour Blush Kits. I look at them in store, think they are a great concept and yet never purchase. I have no idea why as it is not like I am shy in splashing the cash on cosmetics. I think the main thing that puts me off is that neither three shades are a "perfect" fit for my skin tone. I am willing to bet sooner or later I will end up giving into temptation and ordering the Paloma kit but for now I am still reading up on it via review. Find it here for £30 - link.

5 and 6, The NARS love in continues this time I am thinking about treating myself to NARS Sheer Matte Foundation (find it here for £30 - link) and NARS Powder Foundation (find it here for £31.50 -link) in the shade Fiji. I have this idea in my head that by combining both products I will have the perfect matte base I oh so often crave...either that or I will look cakey? I own NARS Sheer Glow Foundation which is nice enough but wish for something a little more full coverage with the same light consistency, could this be the answer?

7, I have come this close to ordering the Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Gift Set more times than I care to count. I mean look at it - six dinky yet well sized blushes all in the cutest case ever. not to mention it is so well priced! What is holding me back you ask? Well I own all of the blushes and the highlighter minus Dandelion and yet I want it so badly. Someone have a word with me! You can find it via Boots for £29.50 - link.

8, Once my spending ban is over the first thing I will be treating myself to is Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe Nail Lacquer - it appeals to both my inner magpie and desire to be a mermaid tendencies! I also think with the festive season right around the corner this couldn't be more fitting. You can find it here via Look Fantastic for £18 - link.

So go on tell me, what are you currently craving?

Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask

Beauty bloggers (and I more than include myself within this demographic) are guilty of proclaiming various products to be the best thing sliced bread. However how many really last the pace? Urban Decay Naked palettes come and go and what exactly happened to Rimmel Apocalips? Phased out and that is utterly fine - our tastes and needs change but a firm and most likely life time favourite of mine is Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask and the best part is it costs less than £4. Yes really!

Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask
Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask

Basically the Mint Julep Face Mask by Queen Helene both smells and looks like toothpaste and I guess to some degree it does behave similar, the ol' dab a blob of toothpaste on a blemish to dry it up routine. However unlike toothpaste this thick green tinted minty mask is in no way sticky and it actually works - I never had any luck with toothpaste (did anyone?)!

I bought Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask on whim after reading so many rave reviews on various US based blogs and put it to use as a last chance solution after a breakout. To cut a long story short a lovely cluster of teeny tiny white heads were all but obliterated after one use and I have never really looked back since. Essentially this mask dries out blemishes, helps mop up excess oil and deeply cleanses - all you'd want and expect from a clay based face mask. In my experience nothing clears my skin up quite like it and for that reason alone I will not be without it again. A word of warning is that this does dry up the skin - nothing a good night cream or hydrating face treatment (mask, serum, etc) can't solve but naturally drier skin types may want to avoid. I should also mention that it isn't paraben free (neither is a lot of skin care products) but it is cruelty free.

One of if not the best face mask I own, I return to it regularly and at less than £4 everyone should try it least once.

You can find the Queen Helene Mint Julep Face Mask via Amazon for £3.60 (that includes p&p) - link.

It is out now and in Superdrug.

In addition, the brand will be launching a Sculpting Bar offering bespoke sculpting services in Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge from 10 November." I realise that is a lot to take in but I for one can't wait for the products to drop on the 7th of November.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum

Kate Spade is a brand that I have only recently indulged in but I do warn that once you go over to the Spade side there is no coming back. You will want everything and I mean everything. On my travels I may have purchased a bag, a purse and some jewellery but my favourite item has to be the Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum. Gosh is it beautiful and the perfect pick me up.

Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum

Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum is a blend of  top notes such as mandarin, pink water lily and star anise. at the heart there is tiare flower, golden gardenia and coconut water, with deeper, heady notes at the base such as sheer amber, musk and tahitian vanilla to mellow and of course encourage longevity.

Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum

In my opinion Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum encapsulates the care-freeness of a week or two spent in the sun or perhaps a stolen weekend at the beach. In my opinion this is the perfect day scent - not overwhelming yet makes a statement. No it doesn't scream sunscreen rather tropical fruits and flowers - a fruity floral by any other name. The coconut note is creamy and familiar yet the other additions give a sparkling, bright edge. It is one of those few fragrances that you can't help but feel pepped up and instantly happier once applied. Sure it may not be seasonably appropriate but sometimes we need a little sunshine in our days and if it comes from fragrance so be it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again the UK needs to up it's perfume rollerball game!
The good news is that you can purchase it via Kate Spade for $24 (£14.85) - link.

Barry M Surprise Surprise Lipgloss

Basically some people are amazing and reading their story and motivation will leave you teary eyed. Holly Addison is one of those people. At 21 she has not only raised over £7,000 in 18 months for charities such as Katharine House Hospice (offers care to those with life crippling and terminal illnesses) and Cancer Research. With that in mind Barry M have teamed up with Holly Addison to create a limited edition lipgloss called Holly A's Surprise Surprise (the surprise and concept with unveiled on the TV show Surprise Surprise). This is a light, pinky toned nude which has been scented Mango and Strawberry, 70% of proceeds from each sale of said gloss also goes directly to the Katherine House Hospice.

As mentioned above Barry M Holly A's Surprise Surprise is a light milky nude hue tinged with pink and iridescent shimmer which does not translate on to the lips. It reminds me a lot of MAC's Hue Lipstick only in lipgloss form. Yes it is a fairly light shade but as it is a lipgloss it works with the lips natural hue rather than masking them. I find shades like this are best layered over similar toned lipsticks for a plumping effect but of course that is not to say it can not be worn alone. Application is fairly easy thanks to the doe foot applicator which admittedly I am not always the biggest fan of but in this instance I do think it evenly distributes the gloss and makes application a breeze.

Surprisingly (no pun intended) for a lip gloss this is not all that sticky and not as sheer as I thought it would be.The pigmentation is a little above average ant provides a nice level of glossy colour, that is moisturising, fairly lightweight and comfortable to wear. I personally really enjoy the scent/taste of this formula to me it smells very reminiscent of sherbet but if you don't like scented lip products then I suggest you skip this product as the scent is fairly noticeable when worn. In terms of wear this does perform how a typical gloss does - I achieved around an hour of wear with each application so not really long lasting but a very pretty shade!

Apologies that there is no current lip swatches, my lips are beyond chapped and the last thing I want to do is display them and of course put people off their food and of course gloss ha! I will update once they heal.

Barry M Surprise Surprise Lipgloss will be around for six months and costs £4.49, it can be found here - link.

House of Fraser Beauty Haul

Hands up who loves a good haul? Me too, particularly if I'm the one that is doing the hauling ha!
There are so many things hitting the beauty counters lately that I really could resist much longer and ended up placing a fairly hefty order with House of Fraser last Thursday night. Cue yesterday morning when the bounty arrived and I couldn't hold off sharing. Basically the quicker I take the photos, the quicker I can play with the new products - it's a real blogger rule don't you know?

House of Fraser Beauty Haul

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette £22 - link.
I imagine the most asked question will be do you need both? In a word, no! I have yet to try Naked Basics 2 out but I will say that from the get go the shades are cooler in tone and if they don't turn out to be as chalky as others have said then it could become a staple in my make-up bag. I will admit that I purchased this on a whim and really to complete my Naked collection which is idiotic really. I will update with a full review and swatches as soon I have given it a whirl.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray £9 - link
I own a good few of the Urban Decay facial sprays and do rather like them but for some reason I have never been tempted by the All Nighter version. Not so long ago Urban Decay launched mini versions of their best selling facial mists and at £9 it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss. I am really excited to try this out and although it won't be a product I use daily I do hope that it it prolongs my make-up wear enough that I can rely on it for nights out. Here's hoping!

DiorShow Iconic Overcurl Catwalk Eye Make-Up Kit £24.50 - link
Completely added to my online cart on a whim, I saw the dinky little eyeshadow palette and pretty much decided on the spot that I needed it. Now the palette and mascara are here I am not so convinced. The palette is too small to use and after trying the mascara yesterday I'm not 100% sold. Yes it does add a curl to my lashes but it smudges so, so badly after half an hour of wear I look like I have decided to take on Mike Tyson. At the moment I am not at all impressed by the formula.

NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Desdemonda £21 - link
I'm not sure this is the shade I ordered, I could have sworn I clicked on a beige typical me and slightly boring hue instead of Desdemonda. Now it is in my clutches I have decided to keep it and give it a whirl. Honestly the shade is bizarre - a purple tinged deep pink almost berry tone which reflects purple and blue. This could be a catastrophe waiting to happen or the start of a beautiful friendship. We shall see - on a side note does online shopping ever run smoothly when you are half asleep?

House of Fraser Beauty Haul

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Brigette £24 - link
I actually have two other shades of the NARS Audacious Lipsticks from when they first launched, for one reason or the other I have yet to post my thoughts. I think I will hold off and share all three shades in one review post? Anyway I am a little obsessed with Brigette Bardot (who isn't?) and her make-up style from back in the day and as this shade is inspired by such lady I knew it would be a case of sooner or later it will be mine. Well today is that day and I can happily say not only is the formulation beautiful but so is the shade. In my opinion it is the perfect nude for blondes!

Excuse me while I place my bank card back in the freezer where it belongs.

A few days ago I posted about Rituals Diwali Winter Collection (read the post here - link) and briefly summarised that the collection is inspired by the Hindu festival of light. From what I have managed to gather Diwali is celebrated worldwide and is a 5 day festival which marks the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. I told you it was beautiful. Apparently the occasion can be marked by lighting a diya (special candle) inside and outside of the home but I am sure there is so much more to Diwali than that. Well within the six piece collection one of my favourite Rituals products EVER makes a return - Rituals Sacred Fire Candle.

"The earthy and musky tones of Patchouli will permeate your senses with feelings of excitement and positivity. Cedar has a soothing aroma that has been used since ancient times and is an age old symbol of immortality."

The Sacred Fire candle is of course limited edition but it does seem to re-appear each festive season
and has been blended especially for the winter months with notes inspired by nature. For the festive period most brands tend to go down the tried and tested route of either spice or berry notes and sometimes both. Cool if you like that sort of thing annoying when you aren't at all a fan of spicey notes which I am guilty off. Like most I want something warm and dare I say it Christmas-sy for the winter but a little different? Rituals Sacred Fire candle (and fragrance in general as you can purchase the reed diffuser) is the perfect winter warmer as it is indulgent but not spicy in the slightest,
the Patchouli note adds depth, while the cedar fragrance encapsulates the spirit of Christmas (think real Christmas trees and a walk in the crisp winter air) with all the joy and magic of the festive period bundle into one stunning glass container. This year Rituals have also launched a 3 wick table version of this candle as well as the regular tumbler!

Rituals Sacred Fire Candles for 2014 prices range from £19.50 - £39.50 - link.

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne Christmas 2014

I kid you not when I say Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir is easily one of the most complex scents I have experienced in my life - it is dark, heedy, almost masculine and somewhat mysterious yet smells familiar. It has a fruity base yet is deep and vampy with tiny hints of spice trickling through and couldn't be more fitting for the Autumn/Winter seasons. I am tempted to say it reminds me somewhat of refined mulled wine but that doesn't do it much justice. Pomegranate Noir is like a cognac (I swear I don't drink all that much honest...I promise) it warms, comforts, uplifts and leaves you feeling tingly and somewhat sleepy - imagine sitting beside a roaring fire in your glad rags with good company, and a glass of something warming in your hand and you'll have the general idea. One thing that is for sure is that it is unlike any other scent out there and is perfect for the currently disastrous winter weather we are experiencing.

If this is one of your favourite fragrances or perhaps you have always wanted to try out the somewhat cult fragrance then I would suggest it is now or never (well November when it officially launches). As you may have guessed the scent is the same beloved Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne but with beautiful, festive and limited edition packaging.

Speaking of the packaging as you can see Jo Malone have not only etched a visually stunning design onto the glass - it somewhat mimics ice and the delicateness of snow flakes while the red ribbon makes it very clear what season it is. I can't imagine a more beautiful gift to give or receive.

The festive edition of Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne will come in the 100ml size only and will launch via all the usual outlets this coming November. It should retail for around £85.

- The above photos were taken at a press event but I own the non limited edition version of the cologne. I apologise for the quality of the photos. On screen they are fine and when I upload them onto blogger the quality seems to go out the window!

Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave

MAC Ripe Peach blush has long been discontinued but the words "Ripe Peach" still sets many a hearts a flutter and it easily one of my favourite blushes of all time. I have only ever owned one compact of Ripe Peach and that was long disposed of due to age (I feared it would grow mould) and I have lusted after a suitable "dupe" ever since. Enter Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave the best £3.99 any MAC Ripe Peach fanatic can spend...

Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave
Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave

A super quick gloss over of the packaging - square, flimsy and yes a little cheap looking. It does have the appearance of a typical low budget brand thanks to the transparent plastic but don't let that put you off. Despite looking and feeling cheap the flimsy plastic has not shattered or cracked nor has the powder inside and at the end of the day that is really all I ask for from packaging. No frills but hey who needs a scratchy brush or poor quality mirror anyway?

Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave

Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave

In my opinion Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave is the closest dupe to my beloved and now defunct MAC Ripe Peach blush both in design and finial colour pay off .The coral, orange and pink gradient is almost identical to Ripe Peach - okay the real deal contained a little yellow in the blend but other than that it is eerily similar. The beauty of having a gradient blush is that you essentially have three shades in one: blended the blush creates a bright, matte orange coral, using only the left hand side you have a warm yet bright orange toned blush which is pretty similar to NARS Taj Mahal and using only the right you have a warm medium toned pink matte blush.

Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave
Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave

There really is nothing to fault other than the packaging which is clutching at straws when it comes to the Essence Blush Up Blush in Heat Wave. The shade is beautiful not to mention it can be used in three ways (four if you dare to apply it as an eyeshadow), is well pigmented, matte so it is ideal for those like myself with enlarged pores yet brightening to the skin, blends well and fairly long wearing too. With a primer on my oily skin I typically achieve 6 hours of wear before it begins to fade which really is not bad at all.

Perhaps the real downside is that Essence is still tricky to get within the UK, many Wilkinson's stores. You can find a list of stockists and more general information here - link.
