Have you ever purchased a product with gritted teeth knowing full well you'll love but hate paying to replenish it in the future? Well that is exactly the case where Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation is involved. This may be my favourite foundation of all time but annoyingly it is pretty pricey and difficult to purchase within the UK. Gah! Luckily Sephora now ships to the UK but be warned it doesn't make it any cheaper. Enough of my belly aching and on to what makes Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation such a great base product.
Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation packaging is pretty slick, a small squeeze tube bottle that houses 30ml of product. Ideal for travel and as it has a nozzle there is no need to worry about pump woes - it doesn't leak and the bottle is surprisingly easy to use, the product doesn't gush out nor will you struggle to squeeze out foundation. The only issue I can anticipate is that when I am nearing the end of the bottle I will have to snip it open to make use of the very last traces but all in all no complaints.
Being a Make Up Forever product the Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation comes in a great variety of shades - 16 to be exact. I have the shade 35 Vanilla which in my opinion is a light medium yellow toned option which is probably closest to MAC NC30 (my winter foundation shade) if using that spectrum as reference. The good thing about the majority of Make Up Forever foundation ranges is that they include warm, cool and neutral shades as well as catering for really pale, deep and all that is in between complexions so finding a good match shouldn't be difficult.
If you like matte base products this is for you, the creamy texture of Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation conceals just about all skin problems - blemishes, dark circles and pigmentation woes so you may find you end up skipping concealer. I know I do when wearing this. Despite the coverage level being high this does not cake, feel heavy or look entirely flat on the face (the polar opposite from Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation). The creamy texture quickly melts and blends with ease creating a flawless base - a little goes a long, long way. I find a flat top kabuki brush is the best way to apply this foundation. It does also apply well with fingertips especially in areas you want to make the most of the high coverage. What I like most about this foundation is that with a quick dusting of powder this keeps my skin oil free without drying out my complexion (a good eight hours with ease), it doesn't settle into fine lines or enlarged pores nor does it cake or cling to dry areas. In a word it is perfection and my favourite matte foundation ever.
C'mon Make Up Forever hurry up and come to the UK please. Pretty please!
Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation is available via Sephora - link.
(Sephora is currently down so I will have to update with the exact price when they decide to fix the issue but I am sure it is around $34).
I've heard so much about this foundation, I need to get my hands on this and the MUFE HD foundation too! Good news though, you can get MUFE at Precious About Makeup and Guru Makeup Emporium from the UK! x

I've tried the NARS Sheer-Matte foundation and it turned really cakey so I've been nervous to try another matte foundation but your review has me thinking I should give this one a try! Thanks:)

This sounds like my ideal foundation, especially if it's got a decent shade range! Just a shame it's difficult to get hold of. If I'm ever over in the US I shall try and find it x

I have heard some much about this foundation. Everyday, when I get home ,I saw this brand. Every time I was so scared to walk in to the store as I am a student, wearing uniform, and some of the lady in the store will reject to help. So I am very happy that I read your blog post as I know more about this foundation. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis bottle is almost identical to the e.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation and it sounds quite similar too!

I use Double Wear and I don't find it cakey nor heavy at all, it's my favourite foundation. I will try MUFE one, here in Italy it's a brand easy to find! ;)
